Conceptually the Clark Street remodel began with an idea of creating a new entry. The existing home foyer was non-existent and cramped with the back of the stair abutting the front door. By defining an exterior point of entry and creating a radius interior stair, the home instantly opens up and becomes more inviting. From there, further connections to the exterior were made through large sliding doors and a redesigned exterior deck. Taking advantage of the cool coastal climate, this connection to the exterior is natural and seamless Photos by Zack Benson

Artistic expressions in a Spanish style staircase design flow from Menlo Park, California United States. I am particularly intrigued with how the wrought iron balusters are connected to the stairs as the wrap up and over each step. The super thick, rustic clay stair treads also are cool, and the color combos are great for those designing Spanish style homes with more subtle deco tiles. Project is in San Mateo, California and is shared by an Interior Designer team based in Menlo Park. - spanishhomestylist

I"m guessing it would be alot more work to just pull the wall and leave electric on necessary posts.. But I do like the idea of seeing thru the stairs.. just a thought.. cost factor would matter... - susanberman1

An used closet under the stairs is transformed into a beautiful and functional chilled wine cellar with a new wrought iron railing for the stairs to tie it all together. Travertine slabs replace carpet on the stairs. LED lights are installed in the wine cellar for additional ambient lighting that gives the room a soft glow in the evening. Photos by: Ryan Wilson
Balustrades Traditional stair designs usually have open balustrades that reveal the outside end of the stair treads. Open balustrades with curbs enclose the ends of the treads with the supporting wall or stair structure. Closed balustrades are designed where two walls line the edges of the staircase. Open-ended treads usually cost more to build, because the detail of the edge of the tread is intricate and requires superior finish work. Curbed treads can be simpler and easier to construct.
