Located at the Toll Brothers Model Homes the Enclave at Yorba Linda. Toll Brothers envisioned a raised overflow pool with glass walls, allowing guests to see underwater from the outside. Extensive care was taken during the difficult design and build process to ensure that excellence was achieved and Toll Brothers was completely enamored with the results. This pool features a very modern look with straight, clean lines, square columns and LED lights accenting the acrylic pool walls. The bar area touts an acrylic wall and in-pool bar stools, while the tile inside the pool matches the house, bringing continuity to the entire space. An extreme amount of coordination was required for the 2.5 inch thick pieces of acrylic to fit perfectly within the slots on the columns while still maintaining the structural integrity of the pool. We were in continual communication with the structural engineer and acrylic manufacturer, ensuring that each piece fit perfectly. The completed acrylic walls were then craned over the house due to their weight. With a vanishing edge on the front three sections and a negative edge along the back, it was absolutely imperative that the pool was perfectly level and that the water filtration system operated perfectly so that the flow was even over each wall. The water cascading over the front walls collects in a trough that ties into to the rear negative edge basin, where it recirculates back into the pool. The rear negative edge was designed so as not to distract from the breathtaking view of the valley below, while the lounging deck overhangs the pool with a freestanding cover ensuring that the view is completely unobstructed. An elegant piece of artwork frames the back of the pool, completing the look for this intriguing swimming pool.

This wardrobe with hinged doors features a minimalist and elegant design, perfect for a modern space. The doors are divided into symmetrical panels, each with a smooth, matte finish in a light beige tone, adding a sense of warmth and sophistication to the environment. The doors have horizontal black slots that serve as discreet handles, maintaining a clean and uninterrupted aesthetic. This feature not only adds an interesting visual element but also allows for convenient and functional door opening.

A wide drawer beneath the countertop features a custom wood knife organizer designed to keep kitchen tools safely stored and easy to access. Individual slots protect knife blades while maintaining a clean and organized layout. Additional compartments hold utensils and specialty tools, maximizing drawer space while keeping the countertop clear. Positioned next to the cooking area, the drawer allows quick access to essential prep tools while maintaining the kitchen’s streamlined design.

this master suite renovation represents the completion of a whole house remodel initiated several years ago. the space had been intended as a master suite but left incomplete for budgetary reasons. the pending arrival of the family’s second child prompted the move to complete. Schwartz and Architecture’s master plan had organized a strong spatial arrangement, packed with program. building Lab, along with the client, developed all of the materials and detailing. we also, of course, built it. bL picked up on prominent themes from the earlier project, developed and re-worked them with materials specific to the context. from a geometric standpoint, cleanness, simplicity and continuity drove decisions. headers were eliminated from doors allowing continuous ceiling planes interrupted only by slots for sliding doors. flush detailing of tile and sheetrock and sliding glass doors that converge to form an inside corner are but a couple examples of many challenging details dedicated to precise alignments and reveals. from a material standpoint the wood provides tactile softness, frosted glass and lighting maximize depth, while tile and Caesarstone maintain solidity and groundedness. details such as the Caesarstone wrap of the vanity and medicine cabinets offer surprise and engagement through unlikely material application. projects of such density and richness in materials and detail are somewhat rare. we are grateful to our clients for the opportunity and challenge. see rutledge st. residence for photos of entire house. master plan: schwartz & architecture photo by scott hargis

The combination of different lights while maintaining a cohesive lighting design creates a seamless space. Adjustable downlights highlight the artwork and personal accessories, similar downlights provide functional lighting, and recessed slot lights provide general lighting while adding to the contemporary design.

Renovation, Addition & Contemporary Carriage House for a 1797 Downtown Home. The clients wanted a materially rich, tectonic courtyard garden for indoor-outdoor living and entertainment. Copper diamond cladding infills a green stained poplar frame. A master suite balcony overlooks the courtyard. A cantilevered covered walkway connects the main house with the carriage house. An aerated koi pond and recycling waterfall slot add a constant burble to the space. Lush landscaping around the perimeter creates an oasis from the downtown noises. Indoors, the goal was to maintain the integrity of and enhance the original 1797 spaces and add modern conveniences into the modern addition. Done in conjunction with & photo by thoughtSPACE.

Our client came to us with a desire to take an overgrown, neglected space and transform it into a clean contemporary backyard for the family to enjoy. Having had less than stellar experiences with other contractors, they wanted to find a trustworthy company; One that would complement their style and provide excellent communication. They saw a JRP banner at their son's baseball game at Westlake High School and decided to call. After meeting with the team, they knew JRP was the firm they needed to give their backyard a complete overhaul. With a focus on sleek, clean lines, this contemporary backyard is captivating. The outdoor family room is a perfect blend of beauty, form, and function. JRP reworked the courtyard and dining area to create a space for the family to enjoy together. An outdoor pergola houses a media center and lounge. Restoration Hardware low profile furniture provides comfortable seating while maintaining a polished look. The adjacent barbecue is perfect for crafting up family dinners to enjoy amidst a Southern California sunset. Before renovating, the landscaping was an unkempt mess that felt overwhelming. Synthetic grass and concrete decking was installed to give the backyard a fresh feel while offering easy maintenance. Gorgeous hardscaping takes the outdoor area to a whole new level. The resurfaced free-form pool joins to a lounge area that's perfect for soaking up the sun while watching the kids swim. Hedges and outdoor shrubs now maintain a clean, uniformed look. A tucked-away area taken over by plants provided an opportunity to create an intimate outdoor dining space. JRP added wooden containers to accommodate touches of greenery that weren't overwhelming. Bold patterned statement flooring contrasts beautifully against a neutral palette. Additionally, our team incorporated a fireplace for a feel of coziness. Once an overlooked space, the clients and their children are now eager to spend time outdoors together. This clean contemporary backyard renovation transformed what the client called "an overgrown jungle" into a space that allows for functional outdoor living and serene luxury.
