This 1924 beauty deserved a well planned and carefully detailed main level remodel. The goal for this project was to restore some of the original design elements and mix with modern day living and materials. Removing the wall between kitchen and dining space allowed the Gravelly Lake view to be absorbed from every angle. By carrying similar colors, styles and materials around the different rooms the home now has a cohesive style.

A beautiful rug where warm earth colors, shades of brown, cream and green come together. There is no need to compromise beauty for durability. Our Ultra Durable indoor/outdoor rugs are amazing. They resist stains from food, pets, and liquids, while adding color, texture and interest to all your living spaces. This amazing absorbent material leaves the surface below dry with most moderate spills. To clean, simply run under water in your sink or use a hose.

Complementing the Home
This homeowner approached the experts at Braen Supply to help him select materials for his newly constructed home. The style and design of the house was already completed, therefore, the selected materials needed to complement the features of the home.
The homeowner’s one request was to find a patio stone that would emulate a bluestone; however, it would not absorb as much heat as bluestone, allowing swimmers to comfortably move from the pool to the patio without having to worry about shoes.
Working With the Experts
The experts at Braen Supply were able to find the perfect material to meet the homeowner’s needs and then used that to find materials for the façade, fireplace and outdoor kitchen, while still maintaining a concise look throughout the home. The materials that were selected gave the home a unique, yet classic look.

This award-winning kitchen renovation was a special project for repeat clients for whom we had previously built an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU). Now focusing on their personal home, the goal was clear: create a larger, more functional kitchen perfect for cooking, entertaining, and hosting gatherings.
To achieve this, we absorbed the back porch and opened the kitchen to flow seamlessly into the front living room, allowing the space to comfortably accommodate large groups. Thoughtful design choices maintained both style and function, like the installation of a gas stovetop on the kitchen island paired with a high-powered hood mounted higher above the cooking surface, ensuring clear sightlines without sacrificing performance.
By opting to install custom cabinetry, these homeowners were able to maximize every inch of their space and enable unique storage solutions, such as dedicated cutting board storage, towel cubbies, a shallow pantry carved into the wall for spices, and even a clever cabinet gap under the wet bar for the homeowners' cat food area. Large French doors connect the kitchen to an outdoor living space, creating a natural extension for summertime entertaining.
To tie the renovation together, an original built-in received a fresh coat of paint, while a new fireplace surround was crafted, and the stone hearth update added warmth and charm to the living area. The result is a beautifully reimagined kitchen and living space that balances functionality, character, and the joy of hosting family and friends.

Rustic and refined meet to give a mountaintop home in Portola Valley, California, classic charm.
They say the best things in life come to those who wait. So when a Bay Area couple purchased a rare set of adjoining lots overlooking Windy Hill in Portola Valley, they made frequent visits to the site where they absorbed the views while listening to the land as they contemplated building a home there. The intent: to create a home that would celebrate the scenic beauty of the San Mateo County region.
Long before the design process began, the couple committed themselves to preserving as many trees on the land as possible. These trees, two majestic, centuries-old Blue Oaks in particular, ultimately became the impetus for the home’s orientation and the inspiration for its design. Detailed discussions and brainstorming sessions led the owners to discover their own unique tastes: “cozy” and “rustic“ while “contemporary, but not minimal.” The result? Sophisticated style comprised of simple, honest materials.

A complete transformation from white walls and a blank slate, these homeowners wanted an inviting space to entertain. Designer Tip: We didn't want a rug underneath the table but the echo was significant in this boxy shape. By adding window treatments and wall covering on all walls, the sound is now absorbed making for a more intimate setting while dining.

Moroccan interior design looks luxurious and exotic. In this project we paid attention to details, added original Moroccan furniture to the rooms and then combined them with rich colors of Moroccan decor to create unique appeal of ethnic decorating style.
Moroccan Interior Decors are a creative blend of African, Arab, and Mediterranean decorating style. Moroccan decor includes ethnic motifs and decoration patterns that have been absorbed from different cultures.

This study is used as a home office and as a guest bedroom. We designed built-in mahogany bookcases (not in the picture) with an extended wood ceiling to create a cozy spot for the armless sleeper. To add additional storage in we stole an unused hidden space and added coordinating mahogany book shelves. I can imagine snuggling up and reading a book there.
Perhaps my favorite part of this space is that ALL the surfaces (upholstery, walls, ceiling panels) are wrapped in a sound absorptive, light grey fabric. This all started because there is HVAC and misc systems that need to be accessible for servicing in the ceiling. I have a basic loathing for regular acoustical ceiling panels so we decided on the fabric wrap them and it grew from there. The all important lighting starts with a wall sconce in the reading/sleeping nook. (on a dimmer of course, as all my lighting is designed) The ceiling lights add great general lighting with the quality of LED. On the desk (missing from the picture) is task lighting. The glass block is shown in a reflection in the mirror above the sleeper which backs up to the master bath which has no natural light. Natural lighting is essential to good health and seeing colors well (makeup, etc.)
A wonderful multi-use room.

This simple painting studio includes living quarters for an artist and frequent weekend guests. A familiar vocabulary of traditional forms and materials slants gently toward the sun and views up the Slocum River. The cantilevered roof and upper story shelter the glass from high summer sun.The concrete floor absorbs energy from low winter sun during the daytime to release it at night. Walls of exposed studs inside are wrapped and sealed with a continuous plane of insulation applied outside the structural sheathing.

This finished basement acts as a casual living area. The large sectional acts as a room divider from the rest of the basement. The large, wall-mounted tv and sound bar helps to add to the "theater" experience. Carpeting helps the room to feel soft and cozy and works as a sound absorbent.

We installed engineered bamboo over the pre-existing floor tile.

In this cozy 24 x 24-foot first-floor home, both space and budget were tight, but the homeowner envisioned a spacious, chef-style kitchen. To bring her dream to life, we made the most of every square inch with thoughtful, creative solutions.
By absorbing a small bedroom, we expanded the kitchen to allow for a spacious kitchen island and created a more functional and inviting layout. To enhance flow and make the space feel larger, we reduced the walls around the basement stairway, opening up sightlines into the dining room. This thoughtful change brought a sense of openness without compromising the home’s original style.
Clever design solutions and custom cabinetry maximized storage, including a custom corner drawer in lieu of a traditional lazy Susan and a built-in cutting board with a dedicated knife drawer. Custom cabinetry tailored to the homeowner’s needs added both form and function, while new windows and a back door flooded the space with natural light, further enhancing its airy feel.
The result is a thoughtfully expanded kitchen that is respectful of the home's original style and architecture and feels open, bright, and perfectly suited for both everyday cooking and entertaining—a true chef’s dream within the home’s charming footprint.

This two storey Austrian masonry heater is fired once a day and heats the log home for more than 24 hours per firing. The fire is made downstairs and passes through almost 12 meters(39') where it protrudes into the main living area where it is clad with hand made ceramic tiles(Kachel) that are specifically produced for use in Austrian masonry heaters. These tiles and the rest of the material used in the units production are designed to absorb the heat from the fire and slowly radiate it outwards
