Up-lights placed carefully at the base of these grand stone columns define the entryway and highlight the craftsmanship of the masonry and ornate iron gates. The vintage fixture on the wrought iron gates was removed, refurbished and rewired to accept an LED light. The wire powering the fixture is carefully concealed within the ornamental ironwork.The bulb is a warm 2-watt LED meant to provide a subtle glow that is purely decorative. Our clients had a very comfortable getaway home in Williams Bay. But, like the wall of fame that displayed the memorable fish they’d landed over the years, their kitchen needed to be rearranged and refreshed to better serve the friends and family they looked to host. The small gallery-style kitchen was small and blocked off to the rest of the home. It was very restrictive when friends and family gathered. It needed a new layout to accommodate more people, more comfortably. This required a change to the layout of the adjoining great room and entryway. Walls were removed and modified to accept the larger kitchen layout and integrate seamlessly with the great room and entryway, creating a warm and comfortable area where our clients could now entertain and interact at the same time – no longer hidden away in the tight quarters of their old kitchen. And of course … We made plenty of room to display their wall of fame with room to add even more memories.

Inspiration for a transitional living room remodel in Other

We completely renewed and reconditioned this old deteriorated side porch with rotting decking, trim, and wooden framed screens and framing by first reconstructing the frame using PT lumber and Structural Simpson Connectors. New Joists were spaced at every 8" oc to accept our new Composite Fiberon Decking. Posts were reconstructed, a new Post and beam system was installed using PT timbers and 4000 PSI concrete frost footings. Decking rim was 'pictureframed' using concealed fasteners.

Although expensive Granite makes the most beautiful and practical stone worktop you can install in your kitchen. It gives real wow factor to a room and this kitchen in Folkestone was no different. Normally granite needs little maintenance however Folkestone has very hard water (often referred to as limescale) containing high levels of calcium and over time the calcium in the water gets deposited on nearby surfaces. According to the Affinity Water website the water in Folkestone contains 287.5 mg of calcium per litre which is classed as hard. The owner of the property contacted us explaining that due to this problem the build-up of calcium deposits had overtaken her sink and countertop to a degree that she couldn`t deal with it through normal cleaning and a restoration was required. There are several household products on the market that can remove limescale however you need to be very careful when using these on natural stone as they use acids to break down the calcium and this can etch stone making the problem worse (always read the label). I went and had a look at the problem and gave her a quote for resolving the problem, which she was happy to accept. Before starting the renovation, I protected the floor with dust sheets and the walls with a blue film that is easy to remove. Then to tackle the limescale I carefully went over each part of the Granite counter using a set of six-inch Tile Doctor Burnishing pads applying them in sequence from coarse to extra fine. To give extra cleaning power the coarser pads were applied with Tile Doctor Oxy-Gel which is an alkaline cleaning gel. The pads were fitted to a hand buffer and the soil generated by the abrasive pads was rinsed off between pads with water. For the finer detail such as the groves in the granite draining board, I used diamond encrusted handheld burnishing blocks of various grits. With the combination of diamond tooling and lots of elbow grease the job took around five hours to complete and the granite now has the polished look it deserves. The granite worksurface does not require an actual sealer to be applied. However, maintenance is the key to keeping the stone in great condition so for aftercare I left the owner with a bottle of Tile Doctor Stone Patina Spray. This product is designed for cleaning stone worktops and contains a special ingredient that maintains the lustre. This should ensure the Limescale becomes manageable and can be cleaned more easily. Before picture of kitchen with large bulkhead. We eliminated the bulkhead, recessed a cabinet and installed a butcher block top. This was a tricky one as the cabinets next to our bulkhead were 1/4 out of level front to back. We wanted the butcher block to overlay the granite slightly so there is no crevice for food to fall. In order to achieve this we needed to create a custom jig on site to cut a tapered rabbet joint to accept the existing counter. Idea worked out great and homeowner was extremely happy.

Designer: Terri Becker Construction: Star Interior Resources For this luxurious kitchen remodel, we removed the marble counter tops and installed quartz counter tops with a waterfall edge for the island. We altered the cabinetry to accept new sub-zero stainless steel appliances, we painted the existing cabinetry a cool gray, added stunning structural porcelain Emser tile in the kitchen and wet bar for the back splash, installed 60" stainless steel under mount sink with two faucets. We installed a custom sliding barn door for the pantry.

This beautiful Thielsen Architects design creates a modern look with ecologically minded bio planters accepting the structures offcast of rainwaters. The open downspouts create a very interesting visual design element that strengthens the battened condition.
