The homeowner opted for a minimalistic quartz countertop to allow for that clean, modern Scandinavian feel. The look is completed with the black and gold lighting, brushed gold faucet and hardware.

The original French door wasn't installed properly, so there was structural damage that needed to be repaired and the door to be rehung. Additionally, there was new exterior trim installed, new lighting and the door was repainted.

The client completed 2 full bathrooms and 1/2 bathroom. This is the shower for their guest bathroom.
Inspiration for a small transitional bathroom remodel in Seattle

This remodel was needed in order to take a 1950's style concrete upper slab into the present day, making it a true indoor-outdoor living space, but still utilizing all of the Midcentury design aesthetics. In the 1990's someone tried to update the space by covering the concrete ledge with pavers, as well as a portion of the area that the current deck is over. Once all the pavers were removed, the black tile was placed over the old concrete ledge and then the deck was added on, to create additional usable sq footage.

The same footprint was used for this bedroom, except the traditional closets were removed and custom closets were installed to maximize the space and allow for optimal storage. All new finishes for the floors, lighting, doors, hardware, and trim were installed.

In this kitchen remodel, the door to the pantry/laundry room was relocated to give the owner more countertop space, but the kitchen is otherwise using the same basic kitchen layout. Everything in this kitchen is new, including all cabinets, appliances, lighting, etc. The homeowner wanted light, wide-plank wood floors for a Scandinavian feel, so they opted for Westover Oak throughout the home and removed the old laminate flooring.

Given the expansive, open space in the living room, dining room and kitchen, it was important to create areas for each. This was accomplished by installing new lighting that was different for each area, but that worked well together.

Natural light filters into the bathroom, enhancing the bright and airy feel. The flooring appears to be a modern tile, complementing the overall aesthetic. A touch of nature is introduced with a lush potted plant, adding a refreshing element to the space.

For this small cottage near Bush Park in Salem, we redesigned the kitchen, pantry and laundry room configuration to provide more efficient storage and workspace while keeping the integrity and historical accuracy of the home. In the bathroom we improved the skylight in the shower, installed custom glass doors and set the tile in a herringbone pattern to create an expansive feel that continues to reflect the home’s era. In addition to the kitchen and bathroom remodel, we updated the furnace, created a vibrant custom fireplace mantel in the living room, and rebuilt the front steps and porch overhang.

“This design originated with the client’s desire to duplicate the warmth of Tuscan Architecture,” says Stolz. “The vision that South Coast Architects set forth was to create the feel of an old Tuscan Village as a private residence at their golf community, ‘The Hideaway’ in La Quinta, California. However, we had to keep in mind that we were still designing for a desert lifestyle, which meant an emphasis on indoor/outdoor living and capturing the spectacular views of the golf course and neighboring mountains,” Stolz adds. “The owners had spent a lot of time in Europe and knew exactly what they wanted when it came to the overall look of the home, especially the stone,” says Muth. “The mason ended up creating a dozen mock-ups of various stone profiles and blends to help the family decide what really worked for them. Ultimately, they selected Eldorado Stone’s Orchard Cypress Ridge profile that offers a beautiful blend of stone sizes and colors.” “The generous use of Eldorado Stone with brick detailing over the majority of the exterior of the home added the authenticity and timelessness that we were striving for in the design,” says Stolz. “Our clients want the very best, but if we can duplicate something and save money, what client would say no? That’s why we use Eldorado Stone whenever we can. It gives us the opportunity to save money and gives clients exactly the look they desire so we can use more of their budget in other areas.” Stolz explained that Eldorado Stone was also brought into the interior to continue that feel of authenticity and historical accuracy. Stone is used floor to ceiling in the kitchen for a pizza oven, as well as on the fireplace in the Great Room and on an entire wall in the master bedroom. “Using a material like Eldorado Stone allows for the seamless continuation of space” says Stolz. “Stone is what made the house so authentic-looking” says Muth. “It’s such an integral part of the house that it either was going to be a make or break scenario if we made the wrong choice. They replaced the standard French doors in the dining room with modern, black metal French doors.

This newly built Old Mission style home gave little in concessions in regards to historical accuracies. To create a usable space for the family, Obelisk Home provided finish work and furnishings but in needed to keep with the feeling of the home. The coffee tables bunched together allow flexibility and hard surfaces for the girls to play games on. New paint in historical sage, window treatments in crushed velvet with hand-forged rods, leather swivel chairs to allow “bird watching” and conversation, clean lined sofa, rug and classic carved chairs in a heavy tapestry to bring out the love of the American Indian style and tradition. This hall bath was the perfect spot to make a fun statement. The new bath features heated flooring, new chandelier, new soaking tub with tile surround and wallpaper. Because the homeowner is a bath lover, they opted to not install a shower here, but instead use the space to create a fun, spa-like feel.
