This newly built Old Mission style home gave little in concessions in regards to historical accuracies. To create a usable space for the family, Obelisk Home provided finish work and furnishings but in needed to keep with the feeling of the home. The coffee tables bunched together allow flexibility and hard surfaces for the girls to play games on. New paint in historical sage, window treatments in crushed velvet with hand-forged rods, leather swivel chairs to allow “bird watching” and conversation, clean lined sofa, rug and classic carved chairs in a heavy tapestry to bring out the love of the American Indian style and tradition. “This design originated with the client’s desire to duplicate the warmth of Tuscan Architecture,” says Stolz. “The vision that South Coast Architects set forth was to create the feel of an old Tuscan Village as a private residence at their golf community, ‘The Hideaway’ in La Quinta, California. However, we had to keep in mind that we were still designing for a desert lifestyle, which meant an emphasis on indoor/outdoor living and capturing the spectacular views of the golf course and neighboring mountains,” Stolz adds. “The owners had spent a lot of time in Europe and knew exactly what they wanted when it came to the overall look of the home, especially the stone,” says Muth. “The mason ended up creating a dozen mock-ups of various stone profiles and blends to help the family decide what really worked for them. Ultimately, they selected Eldorado Stone’s Orchard Cypress Ridge profile that offers a beautiful blend of stone sizes and colors.” “The generous use of Eldorado Stone with brick detailing over the majority of the exterior of the home added the authenticity and timelessness that we were striving for in the design,” says Stolz. “Our clients want the very best, but if we can duplicate something and save money, what client would say no? That’s why we use Eldorado Stone whenever we can. It gives us the opportunity to save money and gives clients exactly the look they desire so we can use more of their budget in other areas.” Stolz explained that Eldorado Stone was also brought into the interior to continue that feel of authenticity and historical accuracy. Stone is used floor to ceiling in the kitchen for a pizza oven, as well as on the fireplace in the Great Room and on an entire wall in the master bedroom. “Using a material like Eldorado Stone allows for the seamless continuation of space” says Stolz. “Stone is what made the house so authentic-looking” says Muth. “It’s such an integral part of the house that it either was going to be a make or break scenario if we made the wrong choice. A large and luxurious walk-in closet we designed for this Laurelhurst home. The space is organized to a T, with designated spots for everything and anything - including his and her sides, shoe storage, jewelry storage, and more. The primary bathroom was completely remodeled, but the footprint stayed the same. It consists of a new vanity with marble countertops, new lighting, new glass shower door, new tile bathroom (with inset), and new heated tile flooring.

The same footprint was used for this bedroom, except the traditional closets were removed and custom closets were installed to maximize the space. All new finishes for the floors, lighting, doors, hardware, and trim were installed.

In this kitchen/pantry remodel, the door to the pantry/laundry room was relocated to give the owner more countertop space in the kitchen. The previous laundry room was slightly reconfigured so that a customized full wall pantry could be installed, with a similar aesthetic to the kitchen.

This hall bath was the perfect spot to make a fun statement. The new bath features heated flooring, new chandelier, new soaking tub with tile surround and wallpaper. Because the homeowner is a bath lover, they opted to not install a shower here, but instead use the space to create a fun, spa-like feel.

This remodel was needed in order to take a 1950's style concrete upper slab into the present day, making it a true indoor-outdoor living space, but still utilizing all of the Midcentury design aesthetics. In the 1990's someone tried to update the space by covering the concrete ledge with pavers, as well as a portion of the area that the current deck is over. Once all the pavers were removed, the black tile was placed over the old concrete ledge and then the deck was added on, to create additional usable sq footage.

Perfect Lines, clean seams, and flat panel cabinet doors make this upper west side kitchen a modern dream. We really challenged ourselves with impeccable accuracy so all those lines and dimensions flow perfectly from cabinet to cabinet. Hidden into this design is tall cabinet which houses a stackable washer/drier unit. To add to that feel, all appliances were paneled to stay consistent with that sleek look. Finishing this kitchen perfectly is a waterfall edge island and full height backsplash in a marble look calacatta quartz.

The old walkway to the side yard was replaced and a gate was built to give the home true privacy. The river rock was from a local river and helps continue the Midcentury aesthetic.
