Our client has been very fortunate to have acquired some amazing memorabilia over the years. This was our inspiration to create a space to display them and at the same time design a room where both he and his wife can enjoy family photos and work on shared interests. The custom builds were planned to create organization for personal office items and give an inviting atmosphere to come in, sit, read and reflect. Although many design elements are masculine we added a feminine touch with the blush colored chair fabric and custom pillows. A shared desk space is great for collaborating and planning. The fabric covered walls add sophistication and texture. The sofa was placed to invite and enjoy the rest of the family to come in and take part.

The Net Zero Barn is one half of a larger project (see “Farm House Renovation”). When the new owners acquired the property, their hope had been to renovate the existing barn as part of the living space; the evaluation of the structural integrity of the barn timbers revealed that it was not structurally stable, so the barn was dismantled, the timber salvaged, documented, and repaired, and redeployed in the “Farm House Renovation”. The owners still wanted a barn, so CTA sourced an antique barn frame of a similar size and style in western Ontario, and worked with a timber specialist to import, restore, and erect the frame on the property. The new/old barn now houses a sleeping loft with bathroom over a tv area and overlooking a large pool table and bar, sitting, and dining area, all illuminated by a large monitor and triple paned windows. A lean-to garage structure is modelled on the design of the barn that was removed. Solar panels on the roof, super insulated panels and the triple glazed windows all contribute to the Barn being a Net Zero energy project. The project was featured in Boston Magazine’s December 2017 Issue and was the 2020 Recipient of an Award Citation by the Boston Society of Architects.

A nice young couple contacted us from Brazil to decorate their newly acquired apartment. We schedule a meeting through Skype and from the very first moment we had a very good feeling this was going to be a nice project and people to work with. We exchanged some ideas, comments, images and we explained to them how we were used to worked with clients overseas and how important was to keep communication opened.
They main concerned was to find a solution for a giant structure leaning column in the main room, as well as how to make the kitchen, dining and living room work together in one considerably small space with few dimensions.
Whether it was a holiday home or a place to rent occasionally, the requirements were simple, Scandinavian style, accent colors and low investment, and so we did it. Once the proposal was signed, we got down to work and in two months the apartment was ready to welcome them with nice scented candles, flowers and delicious Mojitos from their spectacular view at the 41th floor of one of Miami's most modern and tallest building.

Longview Farm Park is the remnant of a farm that may have been settled as early as the 1820s. The farm was divided several times and the house modified over the years. The city acquired the 30 acre property for use as a park in 2000. The park contains horse stables, tennis courts, picnic and playgrounds, a nature preserve, walking trails and a small fishing pond. It also retains the historic farm house whose structure contains a log cabin believed to be one of the oldest houses in the county.
Powers Bowersox Associates, Inc. was retained to work with a committee represented by staff, elected officials, and citizens to renovate the house, and to design a new “community living room” connected to the historic farm house. The addition is a long low pavilion type structure that quietly compliments the historic house. It provides a multipurpose community room, catering kitchen, office space for the city’s parks and recreation department, a volunteer gardening club and other local not-for-profit groups, and maintenance storage. It is designed to permit the house and the addition to function separately, or combined as a single venue for community events.

The homeowners loved their historic home’s classic charm and wanted to ensure we preserved that during the kitchen remodel. We focused on an eclectic mix of materials and finishes to make sure the space felt like it had been acquired over time and was entirely not brand new. We used both “warm” and “cool” tones as well as mixed our metal finishes to create a layered and dynamic space. We also added some feature elements like this Bertazzoni off-white hood, a traditional white subway tile with dark grout, and brass hardware to pay homage to the home’s 1920’s roots.

The builders of the historic Wilcox Mansion skimped on just one hallmark of luxury in our humble opinion — the wine cave. It was our pleasure to correct this small oversight by adding an underground wine cellar to the property’s basement when it was acquired by new owners last year.
When working with a historic property like this one, it’s important to respect the space and not modify any walls or materials of historic significance. Thankfully, the brick and stone basement already provided the perfect location for wine storage without the need for additional refrigeration. We added a custom bar top made from one of the property’s original doors (set under glass to protect it), lower shelves custom made from reclaimed barn wood, top wine racks by STACT, and some very dramatic lighting, for a truly one-of-a-kind wine storage system for this one-of-a-kind architectural masterpiece.

Indoor-outdoor carpeting was replaced by large format, stone-look tile so that this 10'x12' sunroom now doubles as a mudroom. The seating area is situated on one side of the space, allowing for garden storage and a clear circulation path on the other side - perfect for a home with multiple dogs! The walls were painted a light aqua blue to create a lighthearted feel. The bench, chair cushions and pillows were custom-upholstered. The bench, wheat sheaf tables and some accessories are vintage pieces acquired over time at antique stores. The lemon and orange art pieces are framed vintage art prints.

For the master suite, we created an elegant and chic heaven with a sense of style that is conductive to rest and relaxation.
We selected a specific color combination to create the perfect ambiance for this room. We mixed the quietness of a soothing neutral pallet with the sophistication and elegance of silver. We added drops of blue, which is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. We incorporated green, the color of life, renewal, nature, and energy.
Natural silk glimmer curtains, wave reflecting silver wall paper, a hand woven silk and wool rug from India, an original oil painting acquired in Paris 40 year ago, two elegant designer reupholstered chairs, were elements that spoke by themselves in this classic contemporary master bedroom.
The sitting room invites you to linger and enjoy the breathtaking vista of the Golf of Mexico. Sinking into the sofa allows you carve out restorative moments, to unwind, unplug and recharge.
