Inspiration for a large mediterranean enclosed dining room remodel in Atlanta with beige walls

Located in the beautiful Rice University area of Houston, HOUSE 2344 is the 3rd project designed for this repeat client. This design is truly a collaboration between designer and owner; infused with elements acquired from living overseas in Asia and Europe combined with materials and qualities from 2 previous home designs the project is a reflection of their unique personalities. A series of inwardly sloping butterfly type roofs are organized along a central spine above the circulation zone of the house. Main common areas and bedrooms key into this axis and are telegraphed up to the roof planes above. The 2-story structure flips the common arrangement of spaces locating the living / dining / kitchen on the 2nd floor with a soaring dynamic ceiling scape in order to have the bedrooms on the more serene and restful ground level. The mass of the house is intentionally pushed away from the street side of the lot allowing the pool and yard area to act as a buffer for the interior and to guarantee the exterior will always be open and sunny without any adjacent buildings. The Owner cultivates an extensive herb, vegetable, and fruit garden along with fresh egg-laying chickens to use in eclectic home cooked meals. Typical manicure lawns and feature trees are avoided in favor of natural wild flower landscaping that changes with the seasons.

Clients who enlisted my services two years ago found a new home they loved, but wanted to make sure that the newly acquired furniture would fit the space. They called on K Two Designs to work in the existing furniture as well as add new pieces. The whole house was given a fresh coat of white paint, and draperies and rugs were added to warm and soften the spaces. The third floor became the media room where the family can relax in a completely private area.

Further, the library should suggest the works have been acquired over time or handed down. The worst sin for a library is being pretentious and boring -- such as all brand-spanking-new or a parade of leather-bound books for show, not thumbed, loved and actually read.

This mid-century river walkout was an absolute joy to transform for a young dynamic professional couple. They acquired a Rideau River property with a million dollar view and wanted to take advantage of this extraordinary feature. The existing older galley kitchen had seen better days and was an interior space with no view or natural light. Our recommendation? Take advantage of the cathedral ceiling sunroom and open up the kitchen to create a large, open-concept entertaining zone, with a chef’s kitchen. This new, ready-for-anything space would act as the heart of the home with an impactful sense of arrival. Working with an economical budget we provided guidance on space planning, kitchen functionality and total aesthetic. Knowing our clients worked from home a generous amount of time we integrated storage and power solutions dedicated to keeping technology accessible yet out of sight, which resulted in a dramatic floating walnut island as a grounding element. The overall result with a budget-minded approach was a fully customized high-end transitional kitchen that was youthful, bright and cheerful with touches of industrial chic and a good dose of drama to achieve that ‘wow’ factor. This home is a replica of George Washington’s Mount Vernon. The homeowners have acquired many french antiques in their travels. The Homeowners’ Exquisite handmade rugs are the inspiration for the color schemes in each room.

This dark, dated, and dull powder room underwent a remarkable transformation, transitioning from a basic pedestal sink to a customized vanity with ample storage. By incorporating wainscoting along the perimeter, the bathroom acquired a touch of elegance and sophistication, making it an inviting and personalized space for guests. Departing from its previous predominantly white color scheme, the room embraced a bold aesthetic with a warm green wall paint and a star-patterned, personality-filled tile floor. Warmth and character were infused into the space through the addition of rich wood accents and luxurious gold fixtures. To evoke a sense of serenity and tranquility, a serene green hue was introduced, further enhancing the room's ambiance and creating a welcoming retreat for guests to enjoy.

Reclaimed Oak Barn Siding Wall Covering Weathered Gray. We acquire all kinds of reclaimed lumber from the heart of the Midwest but my personal favorite is the barn siding because each side of the board is unique. Through our precision milling process we use for flooring, we created this solid 3/8" Tongue and groove plank that is deigned for wall accents. It's available in widths that range from 3" up to 10" wide and random lengths up to 10 feet long. You can choose just one particular width or multiple widths. The Weathered Gray face is what you see on the outside of the barn after years of rain, wind, and snow. The Antique Brown is what was facing the inside of the barn. I found that many customers were using our 3/4" reclaimed flooring for wall accents and came up with this solution to preserve both sides of that beautiful material. It was important to me to create a precision milled product on the sides and the back for good fit and easy installation. The profile of the Tongue side allows the product to be blind nailed just like hardwood flooring. No Adhesives are necessary. We completely preserve the original face and give just a light sanding to clean up any loose pieces. You get all that beautiful original saw mark texture, weathered knots and rusty nail holes. Our reclaimed products are completely denailed and kiln dried to ensure you get a stable product.

This original 1970's master bedroom suite was transformed into a very exciting and unique southwestern design. In the Master bath we chose a double slipper copper tub, saguaro cactus for the vanity bases with custom copper sinks, and a parota wood slab for the counter and back splash acquired in Mexico by Casa Mexicana Imports. Artobrick wall tiles were designed with hand picked colors and patterns. The barn door for closing the space between bedroom and bath was antique Mexican paneled door we upholstered bathroom view side with a Sunbrella fabric Pendleton design and framed it in leather. The Adobe fireplace and custom shelf unit in the master bedroom were added, Custom paint for the walls in the bath and the Master bedroom ceilings. Hickory wood flooring was used for the bedroom, which tied in well with the natural saguaro cactus wood tones.

Eagerly awaiting retirement, a New England-based client acquired a property in a former office building in central Lisbon. Artfully refurbished by Frederico Valsassina Arquitectos, the façade is composed of geometric strata of medium-gray panels alternating with weathered vertical staves. Our studio’s brief was to furnish and equip the interior of the vacation home to converse with the architecture, so family and friends visiting Lisbon would stay in an elegant, private setting, filled with locally-made and designer items. Upon entering, a small shelf and mirror function as a welcome valet. The corridor opens to a cozy living room with lambent afternoon light let in by large sliding doors. Just outside, the balcony sports a café table and chairs set for an aperitivo. An enveloping sofa, produced in Portugal, and an organic recliner, create an intimate lounge area facing a classic, modular media cabinet. An artisan-made wool ottoman adds a beat of color; the lights speak in plump opaline glass and thin black metal rods. The glass top of the dining table fades into the space, leaving its sculptural, marine blue base; in a play of textures, the upholstery of the dining chairs coordinates elegantly with the smoked glass. Tile, oak, and stainless steel come together in a custom kitchen island, with additional counter space and convenient storage. As the interior is replete with oiled oak in the floors, baseboards, doors, and cabinetry, matching wood furniture warms the bedrooms. The vertical spindles of the beds recall the pattern of the exterior façade. Laptop work is accommodated by a small console desk with a chair clothed in burgundy. Acorn-shaped pendants, inviting bed linens and rugs, and undulating curtains, all in the warm white of the walls, form a nest for relaxation.
