Adjacent to the new entry, we relocated and redesigned the laundry room. Now positioned exactly where it needs to be, it functions as a hardworking utility space with countertops for folding, a utility sink for immediate stain treatment, and the ability to be closed off—keeping daily life contained when needed.

Rhodes Architecture + LightTo encourage gathering, Rhodes Architecture worked closely with the owner to create special family places such as a music bar and jam space with storage for instruments, refreshments, even a “Marshall Amp” refrigerator. The lowest level is dedicated to play incorporating home gaming and theater, billiards, music, family discussions + hangouts with direct access to the western terraces, gardens, and a park beyond. A second level incorporates pragmatic space; garages, entry/mudroom, mechanical/interstitial space. The two central levels combine entry, offices, kitchen-living-dining, pantry, guest and bath and opens to a surrounding porch and deck. Upper levels incorporate four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Horizontal levels are linked, joined, and focus on a five-level white steel and bamboo stair wrapped in extensive glass that acts as a central hub, light well + atrium lending expansive vertical space and illumination to the home.
Gayler Design BuildRemoving the long, narrow center island immediately opened up the kitchen, creating a greater sense of space. Closing off an unnecessary doorway provided additional wall area, allowing the cooktop to be repositioned and improving the kitchen’s layout and flow.
The bold choice of a rich green for the cabinets gave the kitchen a striking, modern look, while still feeling balanced. The green acts as a neutral tone, complemented by calming pale oak flooring, neutral quartz countertops, and a textured backsplash in a similar hue for subtle visual interest.
The redesign also introduced functional zones: a dedicated baking area designed with their daughter in mind and a bar area perfect for entertaining family and friends.
