Gappsi designed and constructed this backyard in West Hampton, NY. This project was created to be simple, elegant, and functional that includes many amenities. Gappsi built a 20 x 40 vinyl swimming pool as well as a large pavilion built on a raised patio. This area can alternatively be used to place a dinner table and a seating area. In addition, this includes an outdoor kitchen incorporating Twin Eagle appliances. All of the patios were paved with French Pattern Silver Travertine in addition to the pool coping and step treads were built with Moca Travertine. The pavilion is completed with Azek synthetic trims and columns, vinyl soffits, and siding to match the existing house. Lastly, a mesh safety fence was installed around the swimming pool.

Our new project. To implement it, we were invited by the company in San Francisco. We had a very difficult task to do. The building in which we had to install sound-absorbing panels has a historical and architectural value, and the main thing was not to harm anything. And at the moment the building is used by the federal government, so that the work had to be carried out quickly and quietly, not to disturb the employees working in the building. We have carefully selected materials, so that the shade of color on the wall would be completely coincided with shade of the fabric set. In the choice, we stopped at a specially made for this purpose CLIPSO sound-absorbing fabric. This material is better than any other for this kind of work: 1) Clipso Sound Proof is specially designed for sound absorption. 2) This material is made of synthetic fabric impregnated with polyurethane, it is ready to cope with significant operational loads in public buildings. 3) The texture of the material looks like a canvas, which creates an additional atmosphere of comfort and harmony with every interior of the premises where we have installed it. In the base, behind the CLIPSO fabric, we have installed an additional layer of sound-absorbing material. This combination has increased the sound absorption to a factor of 1.0 (100%). All premises in which the work was carried out was provided to us for 3 days. During this time, we had to remove all lights, grille ventilation systems, as well as safety sensors and fire extinguishing systems. Then install the mounting profile in the places told by the architects,mount a layer of sound-absorbing material and sound-absorbing fabric CLIPSO. Then, it was necessary to put back all dismantled equipment. With this task we coped.

We started with a blank slate on this basement project where our only obstacles were exposed steel support columns, existing plumbing risers from the concrete slab, and dropped soffits concealing ductwork on the ceiling. It had the advantage of tall ceilings, an existing egress window, and a sliding door leading to a newly constructed patio. This family of five loves the beach and frequents summer beach resorts in the Northeast. Bringing that aesthetic home to enjoy all year long was the inspiration for the décor, as well as creating a family-friendly space for entertaining. Wish list items included room for a billiard table, wet bar, game table, family room, guest bedroom, full bathroom, space for a treadmill and closed storage. The existing structural elements helped to define how best to organize the basement. For instance, we knew we wanted to connect the bar area and billiards table with the patio in order to create an indoor/outdoor entertaining space. It made sense to use the egress window for the guest bedroom for both safety and natural light. The bedroom also would be adjacent to the plumbing risers for easy access to the new bathroom. Since the primary focus of the family room would be for TV viewing, natural light did not need to filter into that space. We made sure to hide the columns inside of newly constructed walls and dropped additional soffits where needed to make the ceiling mechanicals feel less random. In addition to the beach vibe, the homeowner has valuable sports memorabilia that was to be prominently displayed including two seats from the original Yankee stadium. For a coastal feel, shiplap is used on two walls of the family room area. In the bathroom shiplap is used again in a more creative way using wood grain white porcelain tile as the horizontal shiplap “wood”. We connected the tile horizontally with vertical white grout joints and mimicked the horizontal shadow line with dark grey grout. At first glance it looks like we wrapped the shower with real wood shiplap. Materials including a blue and white patterned floor, blue penny tiles and a natural wood vanity checked the list for that seaside feel. A large reclaimed wood door on an exposed sliding barn track separates the family room from the game room where reclaimed beams are punctuated with cable lighting. Cabinetry and a beverage refrigerator are tucked behind the rolling bar cabinet (that doubles as a Blackjack table!). A TV and upright video arcade machine round-out the entertainment in the room. Bar stools, two rotating club chairs, and large square poufs along with the Yankee Stadium seats provide fun places to sit while having a drink, watching billiards or a game on the TV. Signed baseballs can be found behind the bar, adjacent to the billiard table, and on specially designed display shelves next to the poker table in the family room. The Marine Studies Building is heavily engineered to be a vertical evaluation structure with supplies on the rooftop to support over 920 people for up to two days post a Cascadia level event. The addition of this building thus improves the safety of those that work and play at the Hatfield Marine Science Center and in the surrounding South Beach community. The MSB uses state-of-the-art architectural and engineering techniques to make it one of the first “vertical evacuation” tsunami sites in the United States. The building will also dramatically increase the Hatfield campus’ marine science education and research capacity. The building is designed to withstand a 9+ earthquake and to survive an XXL tsunami event. The building is designed to be repairable after a large (L) tsunami event. A ramp on the outside of the building leads from the ground level to the roof of this three-story structure. Positioned between residential and commercial neighbors, the elongated property required a careful balance of privacy and openness. Architect Lauren Cawse approached the layout by redefining the existing house and garage as the east and west sides of an outdoor room, with the new cottage forming its southern boundary. This arrangement created a clear courtyard near the main residence while directing the 800-square-foot guest house toward the open meadow and the distant Catskill Mountains. “The unique character of the site and its history inspired the architectural direction,” says Cawse. “The intent was to create a secondary structure in the compound in clear contrast to the modern farmhouse style of the house and garage.” A Barn-Inspired Exterior Adds Visual Flair The exterior envelope evokes a traditional barn with a simple gable shape, weathered wood siding, cedar shingles, and a foundation veneer made of local fieldstone. A large sliding barn door adds a complementary feature to the courtyard-facing side, creating a dynamic opening that maintains uninterrupted views through the cottage to the meadow beyond.
