The client, a single man in his thirties, was unhappy with his dark, closed-off home. He wanted a space for entertaining but lacked a functional kitchen and dining area. The master bathroom also felt cramped and outdated. To address these issues, we focused on creating an open-concept kitchen with a dedicated entertainment zone and a multifunctional island. We also updated the master bathroom with a walk-in shower and floating vanity. Additionally, we modernized the front entrance and mudroom with improved storage solutions. Key features of the renovation include: Open-concept kitchen: Removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room to create a more spacious and inviting area. Entertainment zone: Added a stylish bar area and a space for a large TV to create a dedicated space for socializing and watching TV. Multifunctional island: Designed a large island that can be used for food preparation, casual dining, and socializing. Ample storage: Incorporated custom cabinets and drawers to keep the kitchen organized and clutter-free. Master bathroom renovation: Installed a spacious walk-in shower and a floating vanity to create a more modern and spa-like feel. Front entrance and mudroom update: Modernized the entrance with updated fixtures and added clever storage solutions. The final result is a stylish and functional home that perfectly reflects the client's personality and lifestyle.

Our Burlington client hired us to beautifully update the living room, dining room and lounge area of their main floor. They were looking for improved functionality in terms of layout, as well as a more colourful space. They requested we also incorporate an office area in the dining room and coffee bar in the lounge. We happily created a custom design to address all of their requests. The final result was stunning and so well put together that the clients have since hired us back to create a custom design for their principal bedroom.

2010 NARI CAPITAL COTY MERIT AWARD WINNER Baby boomers residing in this single-family colonial in Mclean, Virginia, wanted to make big changes indoors and out. First, they were tired of their back yard and old wooden deck. The neighboring lot sloped steeply downward, creating significant run-off that prevented any semblance of a lawn or landscaping from taking hold. Worse, it prevented the couple from letting their grandchildren or dog out to play. To address the issue, Michael Nash Design, Build & Homes excavated their entire yard so it was level. Then they designed and built a 5’ x 40’ retaining wall covered with ledger stone to separate the lots, installing an underground drainage system to keep runoff away from a new flagstone patio and surrounding plants and shrubs. Above the stone patio is a large no-maintenance deck reached via a wide stairway with matching railing. A 12’ x 18’ screened in porch sits to one side featuring cedar beaded ceiling panels and French doors that lead into the home’s dining room. Highlighting the interior renovations is a new gourmet kitchen with a custom-made wood cabinets and exotic granite countertops. The room’s focal point is a large island with a two-tier countertop and bar seating. Professional-grade stainless steel appliances include a gas cooktop, double-wall ovens, built-in microwave and dishwasher and large refrigerator. Other features include a porcelain tile floor, tile backsplash and a tray ceiling. A new master bathroom features floor-to-ceiling cabinets, a dark marble countertop and his and hers sinks. Contrasting light-colored marble floor and wall tile leads to a glass-enclosed shower. An adjoining walk-in closet completes the design.

These clients debated moving from their dated 1979 house but decided to remodel since they loved their neighborhood and location of their home. We did a whole house interior and exterior remodel for them and they are so happy with their decision. The homeowners felt that reading floorplans was not so easy, so they loved our ability to provide 3D renderings and our personal touches and suggestions from our in-house designers. The general layout of the home stayed the same with a few minor changes. We took the 38 year old home down to the studs and transformed it completely. The only thing that remains unchanged is the address. The popcorn texture was removed from the ceiling, removed all soffits, replaced all cabinets, flooring and countertops throughout the home. The wet bar was removed from the living room opening the space. The kitchen layout remained the same, but the cook surface was moved. Unneeded space was removed from the laundry room, giving them a larger pantry. The master suite remained the same but additional lighting was added for reading. We made major improvements in the master bath by adding a rain shower, more storage and a bench to their new shower and gave them a larger bathtub. All new cedar siding was replaced on the exterior of the home and a fresh coat of paint makes this 1979 home look brand new! After living in their home for ten years, these homeowners are empty nesters. They went back and forth between remodeling their 2nd floor and creating a backyard oasis. Ultimately, they felt a garage/backyard makeover would best suit their lifestyle. They had no privacy, no shade, and a space longing for attention. Castle Building & Remodeling teamed up with Field Outdoor Spaces to reimagine this space for everyday use, as well as entertaining. The garage, which was previously attached to the house, was completely torn down. The new garage was built from the ground up, closer to the alley. This freed up space for what is now a lovely outdoor kitchen pavilion. Held up by wrapped cedar posts and beams, the ceiling is creatively finished with walnut floor planks. At the ground, stamped concrete was poured to create a stone look. The covered patio extends into a walkway towards the new garage, so the homeowners never have to worry about getting wet when coming and going. This walkway also features motion-activated lights, designed to illuminate the homeowner’s path as he/she enters from the garage. The outdoor cooking/bar area with concrete countertops and stainless steel storage units is the heart of this space. We loved designing this Racho Santa Fe Farms home! Black, white, and gold are one of my absolute favorite color combinations. This 1929 Tudor kitchen and porch in St. Paul’s Macalester-Groveland neighborhood was ready for a remodel. The existing back porch was falling off the home and the kitchen was a challenge for the family. A new kitchen was designed that opened up to the dining room, to create more light and sense of space. A small back addition was completed to extend the mudroom space and storage. Castle designed and constructed a new open back porch with Azek composite decking, new railing, and stunning arch detail on the roof to coordinate with the home’s existing sweeping lines. Inside the kitchen, Crystal cabinetry, Silestone quartz countertops, Blanco composite sink, Kohler faucet, new appliances from Warners’ Stellian, chevron tile backsplash from Ceramic Tileworks, and new hardwoods, laced in to match the existing, fully update the space. The Plymouth clients faced a dilemma with a non-functioning dishwasher, ovens, and cooktop, an awkward layout, and dated arches straight from the ’80s. Despite the challenges, their love for the school district, neighborhood, and home prevailed. We undertook a transformative journey, turning their first floor into an entertainer’s haven with a stunning kitchen, a chic dining room, an enchanting powder bath, and a practical mudroom. Breaking down barriers, we removed the wall between the kitchen and living room, widening entrances to the dining room. Faux beams and a window in the family room were eliminated, and the old Chicago fireplace brick received a sleek black makeover crowned with a live edge mantel. A pop of terracotta paint and floating shelves in the new record player niche set the stage for nostalgic LPs. Considering the family’s love for baking and grilling, we prioritized ample storage. Pull-out spice racks, a charging drawer, built-in knife block, trash & recycle pull-out, built-in tray dividers, corner storage, large drawers, and roll-out shelves now keep everything organized and easily accessible. Embracing a Scandifornian design style, favored by the clients, infused the space with color and natural materials. A woven grass light fixture in the dining room, light wood-look luxury vinyl floors, and a vibrant green herringbone tile backsplash all contributed to the refreshing aesthetic. Throughout the home, terracotta and green hues with accents of black added depth and interest, while the redesigned layout now bathes the entire space in natural light. In addressing practical needs, we removed an exterior door from the mudroom to create a closet and a built-in bench with hooks. The main entry and powder bath now share playful floral wallpaper, complemented by a walnut vanity and gold fixtures in the powder room, offering a sophisticated touch amidst vibrant botanicals.

This is the first home of a young professional couple. Their main goal was to remodel their kitchen to create a more open feel. At the time the kitchen included a built in bench and table that was dated and nonfunctional. We worked together to create a new layout on our design software program. It was very helpful for our clients to see their new kitchen in 3-D drawings. We removed a bearing wall between the dining room and kitchen and opened it up for a breakfast bar contained in the peninsula. During demolition we found that there was no foundation under the floor joists in the concealed crawl space below the kitchen and no footings under the bearing wall.
