Timeless and compelling in scale, our Melbourne Seating Collection is hand-formed from premium teak. Hand-sanding and polishing transform the natural hardwood into sleeping, sloping curves. Beveled table edges, curving legs on the chairs, and gracefully sloping, slatted backs romance the look. Seat back and cushions are tailored in a high-performing, solution-dyed fabric. If left untreated, the wood will adopt a silvery patina over time.

This compound of new buildings adopts a vernacular rural style, reinforcing the culture of the place by using simple barn forms. The composition is unified by painting all the buildings the traditional ferrous oxide red.

Our clients had just adopted a baby girl and needed extra space with a full bath for friends and family to come visit (and help out). The garage had previously been converted into a guest room with a sauna and half bath. The washer and dryer where located inside of the closet in the guest room, which made it difficult to do laundry when guest where there. That whole side of the house needed to be converted to more functional living spaces. We removed the sauna and some garage storage to make way for the new bedroom and full bathroom area and living space. We were still able to kept enough room for two cars to park in the garage, which was important to the homeowners. The bathroom has a stand-up shower in it with a folding teak shower seat and teak drain. The green quartz slate and white gold glass mosaic accent tile that the homeowner chose is a nice contrast to the Apollo White floor tile. The homeowner wanted an updated transitional space, not too contemporary but not too traditional, so the Terrastone Star Light quartz countertops atop the Siteline cabinetry painted a soft green worked perfectly with what she envisioned. The homeowners have friends that use wheelchairs that will need to use this bathroom, so we kept that in mind when designing this space. This bathroom also serves as the pool bathroom, so needs to be accessible from the hallway, as well. The washer and dryer actually stayed where they were but a laundry room was built around them. The wall in the guest bedroom was angeled and a new closet was built, closing it off from the laundry room. The mud room/kid’s storage area was a must needed space for this homeowner. From backpacks to lunchboxes and coats, it was a constant mess. We added a bench with cabinets above, shelving with bins below, and hooks for all of their belongings. Optimum Penny wall covering was added a fun touch to the kid’s space. Now each child has their own space and mom and dad aren’t tripping over their backpacks in the hallway! This California Bungalow was built in 1917. The beautiful wood built-ins are original. The craftsman bungalow developed out of the British Arts and Crafts movement. However, the British adopted the bungalow home style from tropical houses in India.

Erica's kitchen in her 1974s home felt outdated and cramped and she dreamed of having a modern, spacious kitchen. She wanted to update her space aesthetically, but also with a balance between functionality and gaining additional storage. The new design features an open concept to maximize space and allow for natural light to flow through the kitchen. The layout of the appliances was modified precisely to enhance the cooking journey and render it more effortless. The cabinets were replaced, with the lower cabinets adopting a stately navy blue hue and the upper cabinets in a timeless white. The Flash White Ceramic Wall Tiles were installed and the herringbone accent behind the range really makes the backsplash stand out in a classic way. Viatera Forte Quartz countertops were installed and in harmony with the cabinets, lend an air of refined elegance to the room and give the space a sense of cleanliness and brightness. The homeowner made an excellent choice in selecting stainless appliances to complete her new kitchen. The addition of a Ruvati Roma sink and a vent hood above the stove are the perfect finishing touches of their kitchen.

The design is focused on de-stigmatization and normalization of HIV testing and treatment. It provides access to a state-of-the-art facility in a beleaguered post-apartheid community. The design is a model for sustainable development that begins with environment and extends to the preservation of life. Funded globally and operated locally, Ubuntu reflects a world defined by unprecedented global connection and the resurgence of local, community based organization. Ubuntu center brings state of the art services to vulnerable children by providing centrally located, free and accessible social services in a single facility. It comprises a multi-purpose hall for education, concerts and shelter when needed; an empowerment wing with career guidance and computer centre, and a fully equipped Pediatric HIV /TB testing and counseling clinic with 47,691 people reached through community HIV prevention outreach. Ubuntu’s organic rooftop garden, together with Ubuntu’s neighborhood gardens feed 2,245 students daily. It provides a timely and practical template for sustainability on a societal as well as an environmental level. Ubuntu has been adopted by the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS relief (PEPFAR), and has become a model of success for the Clinton Global initiative, the Kresge foundation, and countless individual supporters.

The third part of the project is about the new addition to the family who has added a new sense of fun and liveliness. They adopted a puppy and decided to install what we are calling the doggy tunnel. Working closely with our carpenter we designed and built the doggy tunnel starting in the entry closet, with a small box to fit the dog, through the wall to another box on the outside of the condo with doggy doors on each end and in the middle. Training has commenced and I heard the puppy is now using it and loving it. This makes it easier for both the homeowner and the dog.

Long narrow corridor leftover space is fully utilized to build a through-type walk-in storage closet. Both sides are fitted with multi-layer adjustable open shelving, hanging rods and deep drawers with embedded LED light strips inside each layer, for storing luggage, seasonal blankets, kids’ clothes and household spare items. The far end closes the space to form a complete storage cavity, the outer door adopts walnut matching cabinet door to blend with home overall decoration style. This corridor storage renovation is a cost-effective space expansion solution popular among LA home remodelers, turning dead space into valuable hidden storage area.

Challenges with your backyard space? Yeah, that's no problem for us. In this space, the deck could not be attached to the house because of the way this turn-of-the-century home was built. The house is 100 years old and the basement door is right in the middle of the back of the house, preventing an attached deck. Another big challenge on this space was that the lot sloped up the hill and away from the house. So what did we do? We excavated and put in retaining walls and build it into the side of the hill, while maintaining integrity of the backyard space and driveway. The homeowners wanted their outdoor space on the same level as the play area with swingset so that they could watch the kids while they relax. Nailed it! This rear addition provides the family with a living area that has lots of natural light for the family to enjoy and relax. The cathedral ceiling creates an open and airy space that is well lit from the side and rear windows. The cathedral ceiling also flows into the washroom. Light is very important to this family and due to the close proximity to the neighbours on either side, fire shutters were required and incorporated on all the side windows. The basement is a finished space with a bar, washroom, family room, and a dedicated room for the family’s adopted cats. Exterior was finished with matching brick that was sourced and still available.

For many, the idea of downsizing can be daunting, especially when moving from a spacious rural home to a compact condo. However, our clients were determined to embrace this change to simplify their lives and indulge in waterfront living. With panoramic views of Lake Nepahwin, they were eager to create a retreat maximizing space without compromising style. To optimize space, we adopted a minimalist approach, focusing on multifunctional furniture and clever storage solutions. By strategically placing furniture and incorporating a pantry, disguised as an built-in armoire in the living room, we were able to make the most of every square inch while maximizing the expanse. “Every inch of real estate is valued,” says Lauren Perry “and that is how downsizing becomes a delight.” The original pantry was excessive for the couple, but the primary bedroom was lacking closet space. Enter demolition. We opened a bathroom wall and converted the existing pantry into a walk-in closet for our client’s impressive wardrobe. Prioritizing the built-ins with plenty of drawers customized this space for our client’s personal needs and showcased her impeccable taste in clothes, shoes, and accessories. Every selection had to be carefully considered so the space is inviting, without feeling congested. The fixtures and decor were curated to layer interest, but not detract from the beautiful views of the condo, a delicate balance best left to the professionals.

The renovation of Maison Gray was an ambitious project, marked by technical challenges to transform this 1960s residence into a modern and bright living space. Due to urban planning constraints, it was impossible to completely demolish the house. Therefore, a progressive approach was adopted, methodically deconstructing and rebuilding each wall while keeping the roof in place with temporary supports. This required rigorous coordination between the demolition and construction teams, who worked in parallel to successfully complete the large-scale project. Major structural and framing work allowed for the roof slopes to be redefined and the creation of a double-height space, a central feature of the house's new architecture. Despite the complexity of the project, the work was completed in a relatively short period, an impressive achievement for such a large-scale transformation. Thanks to meticulous execution, the house was practically rebuilt from scratch, with a mezzanine and new spaces arranged in half-levels within a generous volume. The tall arch on the façade marks the vaulted entrance leading to an open living space in double height, naturally lit by a skylight and large windows opening to the garden. Achieving these elements and alignments required great precision, with every architectural detail, from curves to openings, carefully executed to create a fluid and harmonious flow. Sangaré Studio designed the interior with natural materials in soft tones, creating intimate and fluid spaces. Built with care, Maison Gray offers a welcoming and soothing environment, allowing the family to enjoy spaces designed for comfort and tranquility.
