By borrowing unused space from a formal dining room, removing some walls while adding back others, we were able to expand the kitchen space, add a main level laundry room with home office center and provide much needed pantry storage. Sightlines were opened up and a peninsula with seating provides the perfect spot for gathering. A large bench seat provides additional storage and seating for an oversized family style table. Crisp white finishes coupled with warm rich stains, balances out the space and makes is feel like home. Our vision for this space was to incorporate old world, handmade elements and the European lifestyle that our clients adopted during their time living abroad. The handmade ceramic and brass light fixtures along with the brass plumbing fittings and hardware balance the cool toned solid wood cabinetry. The Catalina Belgian Bluestone is inspired by Bruges' cobbled streets yet it presents a smooth satin finish with rough edging that has been over-grouted for comfort. We chose energy efficient appliances that appealed to our clients' lifestyle by incorporating an electric induction cooktop with usable drawers situated underneath for large pot and pan storage along with electric wall ovens. Using panel ready appliances and adding a small crown above the refrigerator and pantry wall cabinets ensures these large appliances feel more like furniture. The custom plaster hood surround and small niche evokes old world curves and movement, a detail that truly spoke to our client. Bringing in an antique rug provides that time-worn finishing tough that a new space begs for; we cannot get enough of the finish space!

Challenges with your backyard space? Yeah, that's no problem for us. In this space, the deck could not be attached to the house because of the way this turn-of-the-century home was built. The house is 100 years old and the basement door is right in the middle of the back of the house, preventing an attached deck. Another big challenge on this space was that the lot sloped up the hill and away from the house. So what did we do? We excavated and put in retaining walls and build it into the side of the hill, while maintaining integrity of the backyard space and driveway. The homeowners wanted their outdoor space on the same level as the play area with swingset so that they could watch the kids while they relax. Nailed it! Our clients had just adopted a baby girl and needed extra space with a full bath for friends and family to come visit (and help out). The garage had previously been converted into a guest room with a sauna and half bath. The washer and dryer where located inside of the closet in the guest room, which made it difficult to do laundry when guest where there. That whole side of the house needed to be converted to more functional living spaces. We removed the sauna and some garage storage to make way for the new bedroom and full bathroom area and living space. We were still able to kept enough room for two cars to park in the garage, which was important to the homeowners. The bathroom has a stand-up shower in it with a folding teak shower seat and teak drain. The green quartz slate and white gold glass mosaic accent tile that the homeowner chose is a nice contrast to the Apollo White floor tile. The homeowner wanted an updated transitional space, not too contemporary but not too traditional, so the Terrastone Star Light quartz countertops atop the Siteline cabinetry painted a soft green worked perfectly with what she envisioned. The homeowners have friends that use wheelchairs that will need to use this bathroom, so we kept that in mind when designing this space. This bathroom also serves as the pool bathroom, so needs to be accessible from the hallway, as well. The washer and dryer actually stayed where they were but a laundry room was built around them. The wall in the guest bedroom was angeled and a new closet was built, closing it off from the laundry room. The mud room/kid’s storage area was a must needed space for this homeowner. From backpacks to lunchboxes and coats, it was a constant mess. We added a bench with cabinets above, shelving with bins below, and hooks for all of their belongings. Optimum Penny wall covering was added a fun touch to the kid’s space. Now each child has their own space and mom and dad aren’t tripping over their backpacks in the hallway! Erica's kitchen in her 1974s home felt outdated and cramped and she dreamed of having a modern, spacious kitchen. She wanted to update her space aesthetically, but also with a balance between functionality and gaining additional storage. The new design features an open concept to maximize space and allow for natural light to flow through the kitchen. The layout of the appliances was modified precisely to enhance the cooking journey and render it more effortless. The cabinets were replaced, with the lower cabinets adopting a stately navy blue hue and the upper cabinets in a timeless white. The Flash White Ceramic Wall Tiles were installed and the herringbone accent behind the range really makes the backsplash stand out in a classic way. Viatera Forte Quartz countertops were installed and in harmony with the cabinets, lend an air of refined elegance to the room and give the space a sense of cleanliness and brightness. The homeowner made an excellent choice in selecting stainless appliances to complete her new kitchen. The addition of a Ruvati Roma sink and a vent hood above the stove are the perfect finishing touches of their kitchen.

The design is a model for sustainable development that begins with environment and extends to the preservation of life. Funded globally and operated locally, Ubuntu reflects a world defined by unprecedented global connection and the resurgence of local, community based organization. Ubuntu center brings state of the art services to vulnerable children by providing centrally located, free and accessible social services in a single facility. It comprises a multi-purpose hall for education, concerts and shelter when needed; an empowerment wing with career guidance and computer centre, and a fully equipped Pediatric HIV /TB testing and counseling clinic with 47,691 people reached through community HIV prevention outreach. Ubuntu’s organic rooftop garden, together with Ubuntu’s neighborhood gardens feed 2,245 students daily. It provides a timely and practical template for sustainability on a societal as well as an environmental level. Ubuntu has been adopted by the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS relief (PEPFAR), and has become a model of success for the Clinton Global initiative, the Kresge foundation, and countless individual supporters.

this Traditional-inspired kitchen remodel, we aimed to transition an outdated, warm-wooded space into a vibrant, expansive gathering spot with minimal layout alterations. By introducing new cabinets and adopting a fresh color scheme, we swiftly revitalized the area, giving it an added brightness and a sense of airiness. The key to the transformation lay in reimagining the layout – removing the counter barstool space and replacing it with an island instantly ushered in an open-concept plan, enhancing the kitchen's spaciousness and facilitating seamless movement within the area. What's remarkable about this renovation is that it leveraged existing elements while making only minor adjustments, yet the impact was nothing short of profound. Through thoughtful design choices, strategic modifications, and plenty of smart storage solutions, we achieved a complete new creation.

This extension to a very distinctive timber clad house set in a prominent hilltop position in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire was an exciting project with many contextual constraints. The clients had a large family and needed to provide more bed space for visiting grandchildren, so we created a new large en-suite bedroom for them at first floor level, which freed up other areas of the house for guest accommodation. The extension is designed to sensitively integrate with the existing house whilst having its own distinct character. The existing palette of materials is reinterpreted in a thoroughly modern way. A rigorous design process had to be adopted in order to secure planning approval for this contemporary design from the notoriously difficult Peak District National Park. The existing rough grit-stone side wall is treated as a ‘ruined’ solid base from which the lighter weight construction of the timber and glass facades spring from. Much thought went into the multi layered timber cladding which imbue the extension with its own unique character, and the carefully positioned areas of clean, frameless glazing which focus and frame the amazing views out to the surrounding countryside. A large frameless corner window provides a sun-drenched corner with seating, perfect for quiet contemplation. Beautifully finished in elegant birch faced plywood panelling the interior exudes a minimalist serenity which makes a pleasing contrast to the rugged exterior finishes.

This rear addition provides the family with a living area that has lots of natural light for the family to enjoy and relax. The cathedral ceiling creates an open and airy space that is well lit from the side and rear windows. The cathedral ceiling also flows into the washroom. Light is very important to this family and due to the close proximity to the neighbours on either side, fire shutters were required and incorporated on all the side windows. The basement is a finished space with a bar, washroom, family room, and a dedicated room for the family’s adopted cats. Exterior was finished with matching brick that was sourced and still available.
