With so much surface area of modern houses dedicated to windows, having control over energy efficiency and privacy is an absolute must. Plantation shutters are the most energy-efficient window treatments available, and can even be installed on those aforementioned sliding glass doors and transom windows. For full-wall windows, shutters offer even more freedom in window coverage since you can open and shut individual sets of louvers, rather than having to pull a whole drapery over your window.

This neutral color palette was punched up a notch with the use of accessories, including custom colored pillows and a stunning piece of art. The feel of this room could easily be changed by simply swapping out the aforementioned items alone.

Top priority for this young couple, having recently leap-frogged from cozy salt box to rambling tudor estate, was the creation of a nursery for their first child (arrival eminent!). Next up? Imbuing the grand scale with intimate charm, in a family-oriented common space to accommodate baby plus their three dogs! Blending his love for all things rustic, and hers for a “glam-sophisticate” splash or two, the result is a beautiful and practical space fit for the whole tribe.

Adding to the Mid Century modern theme is a variety of stainless steel appliances and plenty of counter space.
For instance, the kitchen features a 28″ wide and 9″deep MR stainless sink with a Kraus faucet. Next to that is a Samsung range and microwave, a Bosch dishwasher and the aforementioned Beko refrigerator.
“The dishwasher features a Semihandmade cover panel and is located to the right of the range,” Brian explains.
He adds: “We also removed the pantry that was on one end and used that space for the refrigerator, adding more counter space that way.”
Regarding the Corian counters, Brian notes that “we added about 50″ of linear counter top. In a smaller NYC kitchen a little goes a long way!”
Complementing the look as well is a beveled subway tile backsplash and poured concrete flooring.

The Urban sofa takes modern design and spacious functionality to a whole new level. Taking inspiration from the Arianne, this sofa offers a different shape, which incorporates a higher back and seat design with flexible back support; plus, its electric reclining functionality together with the aforementioned features provide amazing comfort that is second to none. Custom made and crafted in Spain by world-renowned manufacturer Famaliving, this sofa is constructed with high quality materials. The frame is solid and built with pine wood and MDF for durability. A special webbing system for suspension and support is used rather than the old spring design that sags over time; and the fact that you have over 600 different types of colored and patterned fabrics to choose for its upholstery, you’ll easily be able to match the decor of your home and enhance the look of your living space.

This previously unused attic space is now a sauna/yoga room. The left sauna wall follows the attic rafters down diagonally to allow a wider space for leg room on the twin sauna benches.

The owner wanted her master suite to be a daily retreat, a place to get away and relax in her tub. The existing bathroom didn't have a tub and two small closets that opened into the cramped space. An extensive collection of jewelry and shoes overflowed chaotically into the bathroom. In the master bedroom a small desk tucked into a corner by a third small closet took up valuable real estate. The master bath and bedroom were gutted and reconfigured. The closets moved out of the bathroom, and by stealing space above the stairwell and the aforementioned desk nook, a large walk in closet with built in storage was designed at one end of the bedroom. An additional wall of cabinets that houses the TV also serves as a place for shoes and accessory storage. In the new master bath, a new tiled walk in shower with a frameless shower door, and a freestanding bathtub give the room a much more spacious feel. Luxe finishes like marble, handmade tiles, and sleek custom cabinetry add to the spa like feel of the new master bath. A new custom makeup vanity adds even more storage, and the full length mirror disguises another storage cabinet. At the end of the day, the client loves to soak in the tub as she looks out over the treetops in this second story master suite retreat.

This design was developed to fit the lifestyle of a power couple that frequently travels for both work and pleasure. They desired for their home environment to reflect the look and feel of a five-star luxury hotel. All fabrics are luxurious and high-end for a decadent and sumptuous look. Everything is custom designed and tailor-made for their exquisite tastes. From the walnut wood panels, tufted fabric headboard, flower motif fabric side chairs to match the floral patterned wallpaper, symmetrical box pleated silk draperies, white coffered ceiling, and tufted flower motif bench. To make sure that all of the aforementioned design elements really shine, we decided upon the light wood flooring. The black, white, silver, brown colors sparks the perfect neutral palette for an invigorating bedroom.

A 60-foot long central passage carves a path from the aforementioned Great Room and Foyer to the private Bedroom Suites: This hallway is capped by an enclosed shower garden - accessed from the Master Bath - open to the sky above and the south lawn beyond. In lieu of using recessed lights or wall sconces, the architect’s dreamt of a clever architectural detail that offers diffused daylighting / moonlighting of the home’s main corridor. The detail was formed by pealing the low-pitched gabled roof back at the high ridge line, opening the 60-foot long hallway to the sky via a series of seven obscured Solatube skylight systems and a sharp-angled drywall trim edge: Inspired by a James Turrell art installation, this detail directs the natural light (as well as light from an obscured continuous LED strip when desired) to the East corridor wall via the 6-inch wide by 60-foot long cove shaping the glow uninterrupted: An elegant distillation of Hsu McCullough's painting of interior spaces with various qualities of light - direct and diffused.
