CHP designed a custom office built-in with a murphy bed in Northfield, Illinois, that provides two rooms in one. An office was essential. In these times of working out of the home or rocking a side gig, an office that you can walk to without leaving your house is often a necessity. Since space costs money, making that office perform double duty as a bedroom is an economical idea. Some people make do with a desk crammed in the corner of a bedroom and call it an office. That is not the case with Chicagoland Home Product’s custom storage solution. Rustic Cherry finish sparks an office that is very office-like with a desk, file storage and a place for office supplies. Other people make do with an air mattress thrown on the floor, crammed next to an office chair and call it a bedroom. Not so here. The same Rustic Cherry ignites a classy bedroom with side cabinets and shelves for storage. What you have here is an office that is an office and a bedroom that is, really, a bedroom. Those two rooms occupy the same space with panache. It can be done, as you see in the pictures.

The focal point of the new kitchen is the hand-painted backsplash centered under a wooden hood in the chef’s special cooking area. A completely functional island now has space for several stools, and even has a decorative touch with the shelving unit facing the eating area. The space next to the refrigerator became an efficiently organized bill paying area for the lady of the house, complete with pull out file drawers hidden behind matching kitchen cabinets. Replacing the “black hole” of a pantry; pull out shelves grace the interior of new pantry units suitable for the family of five busy people. Existing hardwood oak was repaired and refinished on the entire first floor. A light patterned gold granite works effortlessly with the tumbled marble backsplash that enjoys hints of weathered iron looking details that coordinate nicely with the cabinetry hardware. What makes this kitchen special is how elegant it appears despite the rustic feel of the knotty alder cabinetry. Clean design lines lend an air of sophistication to the otherwise “rustic” looking materials. Now this active family can enjoy the open space, cooking and hanging out together is now an enjoyable pastime.

We remodeled this kitchen to bring needed updates and to open up the kitchen into the living space. The living room used to be separated from the kitchen by a wall and lowered by a few steps. We removed the load-bearing wall and replaced it with a beautiful rustic wood beam, and we raised the living room floor to be level with the kitchen. The old wood paneling was replaced with drywall and painted to brighten the space. The fireplace was reconfigured with a new mantel, new brick pieced in to match the existing brick where we moved the mantel, and new built-in cabinetry featuring custom pull-out file drawers, space for the TV, and shelves for books. View of new bar and kitchen in old music room location. This was a major remodel to an existing 1970 building. It was approximately 2300 sq. ft. but it was dated in style and function. The access was by a wood stair up to the street, with no garage and tight small rooms. The remodel and addition created a two car garage with storage and a dramatic entry with grand stair descending down to the existing living room area.
