This table set melds precision mathematics and procedural computation with the appearance of organic form. When put together, the 6 unique components form a simple rectangular low coffee table. When separated, the odd shapes of the components are evident and they can be used as end tables, benches, or sculptural objects. We developed the forms as a 3-dimensional Voronoi tessellation, an algorithm that permits nuanced formal variations. The basic components are made with precision CNC-cut sheets of Baltic Birch, laminated horizontally with exposed plywood edges, but the edges are shaped by hand to create subtle variations and unique features to each set.

We’re each moving to the beat of our own algorithm. From choosing a dry cleaner to choosing a college, data powers nearly every decision we make. In Silicon Valley, Austin, Berlin and Beijing, techies are the new hippies, full of breakthrough ideas and utopian ideals. CAMBRIA QUARTZ - BERWYN, OLIMPIA TILE, AND POSEIDON BACKSPLASH

My interior design solution for this Project was to produce a simple, clean environment on a tight budget. This young man is in the process of founding his own start-up in Silicon Valley. The uncluttered design is restful for a young man who spends a lot of his time in algorithms and codes. The shell is static by design, but the dynamic element is the park across the street, where there is always activity - trees rustling in the breeze, friends meeting in the park, and happy dogs bounding up the paths! Activity is also experienced on the large TV screen. And during the day, you can see the streets of San Francisco reflected in the screen.

The recessed subwoofer with custom cloth grille and surround trim. At top right is the smart lighting control, which can be operated manually, or remotely through tablets and smartphones in the home (or algorithmically as part of a lighting control program). Also visible at lower left is the auxiliary device connection, composed of a satellite TV feed, network jack, and aux HDMI input to the theater control system, This allows auxiliary devices such as notebook computers, tablets, or video game consoles to be tied into the theater system. This home is controlled by a Control 4 home automation system, providing complete cinema, lighting, source, and audio control from tablets and smartphones throughout the home. The visual motif of the spiral is one of the oldest and most enigmatic sacred images known. It is one of the earliest examples of human creative expression, appearing in nearly every society in the ancient world. The spiral has universal appeal and has a mysterious resonance with the human spirit, it is complex yet simple, intriguing and beautiful. The spiral pattern is found extensively in nature – encoded into plants, animals, humans, the earth and galaxies around us. Mathematics can explain the complex algorithms, sequences and equations that make up a spiral pattern, but it can’t explain the lure and fascination of the spiral to the human heart.
