BEAUTY is a remarkably soft component sofa. Entirely upholstered in every part, including the armrests, Beauty rests on the floor. The structure in wood and metal is concealed in a sea of down and padding materials. Beauty has low backs and armrests that enhance the volume of the large back cushions. The seat cushions filled with down feature an insert in shape-retaining material. Those who prefer firmer padding can always opt for the version with Dacron filler. Beauty is a rounded, soft product, allergic to rigidity and sharp edges. For linear configurations, for truly effortless style, Beauty appeals to people who demand absolute comfort.

PHOTO TAKEN SOON AFTER INSTALLATION. SEE BEFORE PHOTOS AND AFTER 2 YEARS. This San Rafael front landscape has been dramatically updated with a welcoming concrete pathway entrance, and complimented by a variety of architectural plants, hardy succulents, textural grasses and a majestic, fruitless olive tree. The dramatic transformation is enhanced by a raised corten steel planter at the pathway entrance with gravel , Mexican pebbles, concrete pavers, and succulents. Two horizontal ipe wood structures provide contemporary accents. New raised concrete planters alongside the new concrete driveway define the property and showcase more colorful succulents. A beautiful gray house paint color and ipe accents complete the remodel. Plants include Lomandra 'Breeze', Bulbine frutescens 'Hallmark', Thamnochortus insignis, Phormium 'Black Adder' along with others. Beautiful stone fireplace anchors this great room with plaster walls, curved timber trusses and an overlooking loft. “That heightened awareness of site conditions was an opportunity,” says the home’s architect, Wayland Shamburger. “Everything about this home was purposeful.” The walls were made of off-site-finished Venetian plaster instead of sheetrock. Pre-finished wood trim and floors and a high-tech insulation system likewise “added steps of quality.” “It was as green as we could make it,” agrees Reed. “We even gave Minette a small piece of the foam insulation to sleep with under her pillow for a couple of nights, to make sure she would not have an allergic reaction.”

This residential client had a particular caveat: Their granddaughter, who visits every summer, was deathly allergic to bees, and so any summer-blooming flowers that attract bees needed to be absent for the safety of the child. I solved this dilemma by creating a simple backyard retreat that uses different foliage textures and colors, rather than flowers, to paint a lush picture. River birch and golden junipers form the structure, while hostas, ferns and grasses add embellishment with handsome leaves. A purple-leaved ‘Forest Pansy’ redbud hovers gracefully above a water feature as a focal point. Akebia vine, which is pollinated by flies rather than bees, carries the purple color theme onto a pergola. Korean spice viburnum gives delicious fragrance to the seating area but flowers early enough to not attract summertime insects.
