This upgraded backyard deck was completed as part of a full home renovation in the Kerrisdale neighbourhood of Vancouver. The deck was extended to create a larger and more functional outdoor living space connected directly to the main floor of the home. The renovation included a durable vinyl deck surface designed for long-term weather protection and low maintenance. New aluminum guardrails with a natural wood top rail were installed to provide safety while maintaining a clean, modern appearance that complements the surrounding garden. To support a future outdoor kitchen installation, plumbing and mechanical rough-ins were strategically installed beneath the deck, including a water supply line, drainage connection, and gas line. These preparations allow the homeowners to easily add an outdoor cooking and entertaining area in the future.

We reused the existing hot tub shell recessing it to a height of 18" above the deck for easy and safe transfer in and out to the tub. The privacy screening is a combination of our powder coated aluminum railing for the frame and the inserts are cedar panels that match the siding detail on the beach cabin. The free standing patio cover overhead is bronze colored powder coated aluminum with bronze tint acrylic panels. The decking is Wolf PVC which was also used to build a new tub surround. All the products used for this project can very easily be kept clean with soap and water.

This expanded backyard deck was constructed as part of a full house renovation in the Kerrisdale neighbourhood of Vancouver. A durable vinyl deck surface was installed to improve weather resistance and long-term maintenance performance. New aluminum guardrails with a wood top rail were added to enhance safety while maintaining a clean, contemporary appearance that complements the surrounding garden landscape. During construction, infrastructure was also prepared for a future outdoor kitchen installation. Water supply, drainage, and gas lines were strategically roughed-in beneath the deck to allow easy integration of cooking and entertainment features in the future.

The custom-built dining rail allows the owners to sit and eat at the railing while enjoying the beautiful view!
