The owner of this beautiful contemporary kitchen with its idyllic setting imagined ! And her kitchen designer captured her imagination and brought this inspired space to life in both style and function.
Columns of stainless steel are balanced by columns with the warmth of birch wood with just a hint of stain. On an adjacent wall one more wood column rises from floor to ceiling. A strong horizontal line of cabinetry seemingly intersects the vertical columns. While contemporary in design, the cabinetry in this kitchen found its beginnings with the Shakers and the designers of the Craftsman period. Increasing the size of the framing on the doors, accenting the cabinet shapes with square-edged trim and blocks of wood at varying depths, thinly slicing and randomly sizing the natural stone on the accent wall, and choosing oversized stainless steel handles definitively bring this kitchen forward in time. Recycled glass countertops in a soft, quiet color continue to help this kitchen live so harmoniously with its surroundings.
As the day unfolds and the lazy morning turns into ambitious meal preparation, it is clear that this kitchen is a chef’s delight. The stainless steel columns incorporate double ovens, a microwave and a steam oven. Two wood columns house a refrigerator and a freezer. The separate wood column reveals pantry storage, and a TV is hidden behind a lift-up door.
On the island with its clean, rectangular shape two dishwashers flank the sink. Imagine ! how much more pleasant the task of clean-up is when you overlook the family living space and vista beyond.
In the cook center, a complement of drawers provides excellent storage for pots and pans, utensils, spices and herbs around the 5-burner cooktop. A powerful vent with a rear exhaust maintains the horizontal design of the space. And the freshly-brewed coffee in the morning ? It comes from a built-in coffee maker that’s just around the corner from the refrigerator. Along with a wine refrigerator, it creates a beverage and serving center between the kitchen and the dining room.
The homeowner envisioned a kitchen that is as beautiful as its surroundings. Her kitchen designer wanted her kitchen to be as functional as it is beautiful. Both agree that this kitchen lives up to their expectations!

Meet the Turbo White Car Bed, a twin size bed that will enhance creativity and provide endless hours of fun and of course, restful nights. For the future pilot, race car driver, the ambitious dreamer. In full glossy white, this bed has been inspired by European race cars and it comes with functional head lights, sounds, and a remote control. Safe LED lights are shown under the bed, in front and on the wheels. Crafted from highly resistant ABS plastic and engineered wood, featuring a spoiler and black panels in front and on the sides. One 7'' twin foam mattress is included.
Johnson HardwareWhen Valerie McGovern retired from the Air Force, she had 23 years worth of household items gathered from her military travels to fit into her modestly sized home in historical Fredricksburg, VA. “Getting the most out of the space I had was priority one,” said the airman turned successful artist. So after seeing pictures of a wall mounted sliding door project, the ambitious DIYer did research to see if she could install them in her home.
Hammer & HandThis ambitious remodel touched all interiors and exteriors of this 1925 Tudor, including significant work on the shell to increase home comfort and performance. Hammer & Hand replaced most exterior widows—save for a handful of the original leaded glass panes—and built a kitchen addition matching the distinct swoops of the existing roof. Inside, French doors were removed and entryways enlarged to brighten the space and create longer sight-lines throughout the living areas.
In addition to all new interior finishes, H&H also added a fully finished basement with living area, study, spare bedroom, bathroom, and a mini climate-controlled wine cellar tucked into an unobtrusive corner.

Locus ArchitectureA red rolling barn door on raw steel track, fabricated by LOCUS and Tom Oliphant, can be shut to separate the dining room from the renovated kitchen, for those nights when ambitious dumpling preparation has splattered the kitchen with deliciousness and dirty pots. An easy push on the door and Viola, House. Looks. Clean!

Dexter BuildersScott Koch, the primary design architect, had the vision to re-design the home around two dormers in order to achieve a more interesting architectural style. The off-set dormer design was a fresh but ambitious undertaking for architectural design, engineering and construction. The success can be seen in the precise angles you see in the ceiling, crisp view of the back yard and the lovely external views of the home from both the front and back.
