Fire Island poses many challenges for creating successful landscapes. Careful planning, preparation and amendments allowed us to create this stunning garden. While there is a lot of symmetry throughout the grounds, the garden still has a casual feel that still captures the feel of the Island. The north side of the garden took a bit of a beating during the untended heat of a summer vacation, and has a few holes that need amending. We will work on that this fall.

Here's another vignette of the Rock Garden. You can see how I created a color scheme between the rocks and the succulent plants. By the way, all the soil in this garden was amended with sand, compost and gypsum, before planting things that require fast drainage.

The project involved a complete renovation of the front yard and included a comprehensive plan that used plants better suited for the area, amending the soil and installing irrigation to better support the plants and grass, and installing pavers and a retaining wall to make better use of the space.

Replanted with new trees and shrubs for a more colorful arrangement that won't overgrow the space.
