Fire Island poses many challenges for creating successful landscapes. Careful planning, preparation and amendments allowed us to create this stunning garden. While there is a lot of symmetry throughout the grounds, the garden still has a casual feel that still captures the feel of the Island. The gardens complement the architecture of the main house, pool house and surrounding patios. Photos by Jeffrey Erb

This small back yard in Placerville, CA was covered with bark for years. The soil was hard and compacted, so we amended it with lots of organic compost and organic starter fertilizer. The old drainage was filled with mud and ineffective, so we created a dry creek bed which took advantage of the existing outlet to the street. California Native Plants were planted to create a drought tolerant, low maintenance garden which delighted the client.

Nestled in an exclusive Scottsdale enclave, this garden amendment and redesign captures the charm of both the home and the homeowner. A garden of softness, texture, and ever-changing color was the understanding throughout the design process. Creating interest and establishing pattern were cornerstones in the linear spaces, curvilinear walkways and paths guide visitors through their outdoor living space. Establishing an enjoyable entertaining space and bringing the outdoors “in” were paramount when constructing this scaled botanical garden.

These heritage bulbs fit equally well with a French or English country garden. Ottawa's soil can be tricky - some areas of the city are sandy and/or loamy or sloped (and great for growing bulbs)! Others, however, are composed of clay or part clay (and will require amendment before growing bulbs successfully). Here are some of the colours of bulbs which bridge between the strong magenta of the PJM Rhododendron and the pale lavender of the Iris .

Scott Buley, HTT&T, High Tech Turf & Trees, Rain Garden Nursery, LandscapeMakeover.biz. Seeded lawns grew in rapidly. We used an outstanding 4-way soil mix to improve the existing on site soils, and mixed it homogenously with an "eggbeater" style cultivator (a hard to find Lely Roterra). We also rain soil tests to determine the necessary amount of lime, and other soil amendments. Precisely overlapping irrigation heads also worked wonders. These are photos of an amazingly mature Young seeded lawn.
