AFTER: New iron brackets and inexpensive hanging baskets are planted with a mixture of marigolds, petunias and other flowering annuals that will grow to fill and spill over the edges of the baskets for months to come. Total budget for this project with five new baskets, five brackets and all the plants came in just under $100.

A front border consisting of a broad mix of natives, bedding annuals, shrubs and perennials. Two tall spires of arbor vitae flank the entrance (one developed a double leader and now looks like 2 trees in one). The large yellow-flowered plant on the parkway is a cup plant and reaches nearly 10 ft. tall.

This is not a perennial but it does a great job of re-seeding. Artistry's favorite snapdragon is a vibrant deep velvety red, grows low to the ground and the leaves come in as reddish purple.
