Situated along the East River, this one bedroom, two bathroom apartment serves as an oasis for the Upper East Side home owner with carefully curated detail and breathtaking views. Her love of open, feng shui-inspired design set the stage for this complete apartment renovation. Upon entering the space, guests are greeted by an open, airy, and light-filled Foyer that was doubled in size for this transformation. The black metal wall glazing at the end of the foyer provides framed views of the teak wood dining table, black shell Eames dining chairs with walnut Eiffel legs, and a glamorous brass chandelier. It also gives guests a first hint at the industrial accents to anticipate throughout. Natural finished wide plank wood flooring leads guests into a contemporary open floor plan. Previously a cramped Dining Room and dated Kitchen, the space was opened up by removing dividing walls — transforming it into the perfect space for dinner parties and socializing. Featuring crisp white cabinetry with glass inserts and stainless steel appliances, the Kitchen is finished off with polished chrome hardware and fixtures to add a bit of sparkle throughout. Marble slab countertops with a waterfall edge and industrial globe pendants provide a stunning framed backdrop for the hand-carved mango wood counter stools. Just beyond the Kitchen; the Living Room warmly welcomes guests with a luxurious Milan shadow grey velvet sectional atop a plush ivory Moroccan area rug. This pairing is surrounded by luxurious accents like custom marble window sills, a cognac leather lounge chair, and an emerald green velvet ottoman, both detailed with sophisticated brass accents. Other moments of glamour are infused throughout, including a mirrored tray and accessories that sit on top of an industrial teak and black metal framed coffee table. The apartment’s luxury components are juxtaposed with unique custom framed art, curated and placed to speak to the personality of the home owner. The powder room is another nod to the client’s love of the modern, industrial aesthetic with black grouted subway tile, a black metal trimmed mirror, sconces and stunning Aztec-inspired black and white painted cement tile. No luxury design is complete without creation of spa-like places of respite. The master bathroom walls are clad in white quartz with a textured chevron marble feature wall. The Carrara marble hexagon floors provide a luxurious platform beneath the home owner’s feet as she unwinds with a glass of wine in the spa bathtub made for deep soaking.

This nursery was a Gender Surprise Nursery and was one of our most memorable designs to date. The client was having her second baby and didn't want to know the baby's gender, yet wanted to have an over-the-top, elegant royal nursery completed to her liking before she had the baby. So we designed two complete nurseries down to every detail...one for a boy and one for a girl. Then when the mom-to-be went for her ultrasound, the doctor sealed up a picture in an envelope and mailed it to our studio. I couldn't wait for the secret to be revealed and was so tickled to be the only person besides the doctor to know the gender of the baby! I opened the envelop and saw an obvious BOY in the image and got right to work ordering up all of the appropriate boy nursery furniture, bedding, wall art, lighting and decor. We had to stage most of the nursery's decor here in our studio and when the furniture was set to arrive, we drove to NJ, the family left the house, and we kicked into gear receiving the nursery furniture and installing the crib bedding, wall art, rug, and accessories down to the tiniest little detail. We completed the decorative mural around the room and when finished, locked the door behind us! We even taped paper over the windows and taped around the outside of the door so no "glow" might show through the door crack at night! The nursery would sit and wait for Mommy and baby to arrive home from the hospital. Such a fun project and so full of excitement and anticipation. When Mom and baby Luke arrived home from the hospital and she saw her nursery for the first time, she contacted me and said "the nursery is breath taking and made me cry!" DOWNLOAD NOW   This homeowner’s daughter originally contacted us on behalf of her parents who were reluctant to begin the remodeling process in their home due to the inconvenience and dust. Once we met and they dipped their toes into the process, we were off to the races. The existing bathroom in this beautiful historical 1920’s home, had not been updated since the 70’/80’s as evidenced by the blue carpeting, mirrored walls and dropped ceilings. In addition, there was very little storage, and some health setbacks had made the bathroom difficult to maneuver with its tub shower. Once we demoed, we discovered everything we expected to find in a home that had not been updated for many years. We got to work bringing all the electrical and plumbing up to code, and it was just as dusty and dirty as the homeowner’s anticipated! Once the space was demoed, we got to work building our new plan. We eliminated the existing tub and created a large walk-in curb-less shower. An existing closet was eliminated and in its place, we planned a custom built in with spots for linens, jewelry and general storage. Because of the small space, we had to be very creative with the shower footprint, so we clipped one of the walls for more clearance behind the sink. The bathroom features a beautiful custom mosaic floor tile as well as tiled walls throughout the space. This required lots of coordination between the carpenter and tile setter to make sure that the framing and tile design were all properly aligned. We worked around an existing radiator and a unique original leaded window that was architecturally significant to the façade of the home. We had a lot of extra depth behind the original toilet location, so we built the wall out a bit, moved the toilet forward and then created some extra storage space behind the commode. We settled on mirrored mullioned doors to bounce lots of light around the smaller space. We also went back and forth on deciding between a single and double vanity, and in the end decided the single vanity allowed for more counter space, more storage below and for the design to breath a bit in the smaller space. I’m so happy with this decision! To build on the luxurious feel of the space, we added a heated towel bar and heated flooring. One of the concerns the homeowners had was having a comfortable floor to walk on. They realized that carpet was not a very practical solution but liked the comfort it had provided. Heated floors are the perfect solution. The room is decidedly traditional from its intricate mosaic marble floor to the calacutta marble clad walls. Elegant gold chandelier style fixtures, marble countertops and Morris & Co. beaded wallpaper provide an opulent feel to the space. The gray monochromatic pallet keeps it feeling fresh and up-to-date. The beautiful leaded glass window is an important architectural feature at the front of the house. In the summertime, the homeowners love having the window open for fresh air and ventilation. We love it too! The curb-less shower features a small fold down bench that can be used if needed and folded up when not. The shower also features a custom niche for storing shampoo and other hair products. The linear drain is built into the tilework and is barely visible. A frameless glass door that swings both in and out completes the luxurious feel. The craftsman bones of the house were honoured and a 90’s fireplace was replaced with a modern version that blends into the wainscotting and allows the TV to be recessed above. Modern furniture and lighting were kept in a light neutral palette to emphasize the space and create a feeling of calm treasured after a busy day at the office. A mix of Italian and locally crafted pieces create a layered sense of home and a unique balance of sophistication and casualness. The Skypak Airline Trolley – Airport Codes Edition translates this universal visual language into a distinctive piece of contemporary furniture. Photos by Debby Evans. This property slopes from the street to a seasonal creek in the back yard. Navigating the various spaces was troublesome so we created various, natural - as well as concrete steps, crushed granite pathways, stone steps, and flagstone - travel options throughout the landscape. Updated irrigation, efficient drainage, as well as dry creek beds to catch rain water that previously had simply gone directly at the residence were added. Many diseased, dangerous (hanging over the residence) oaks were assessed by several arborists. Sadly, more than 100 (mostly scrub oaks) required removal. This changed the natural lighting to the garden, how the sun impacted the residence, and offered opportunities to plant drought tolerant trees and shrubs of both visual interest, and fitting the space. Client had quite a few Japanese Maples that had originally been volunteers from a very large maple at another residence. All have been used and are doing beautifully. Olive trees and Little Ollie shrubs were used along with Carpet Roses, Lorapetalum, several varieties of Grevellia, Crape Myrtle Natchez and Red Rocket trees and shrubs, Maiden Hair grass, Blue Fescue, Redwoods, a specimen Limelight Hydrangea, Cistus, native Redbud, Vinca, Tree Hibiscus, Tree Roses, Birch, Dogwood, Penstemon, Pittosporum, Heavenly Bamboo, Miniature Roses, Succulents, Euphorbia, Bloodgood Maple, Redtwig Maple, Podocarpus and Oleander (screening), various groundcovers, evergreen shrubs and more were selected for their ease of care, color, seasonal color, and dynamic - but not busy - plant palette. The dated deck was redone with a relocation of the stairs to go directly to the pool. with a little effort, we saved the client hundreds of dollars on lighting by shopping for knock offs of higher priced lighting. A partial retractable awning, now provides an area of shade that was previously a non-issue over the deck with the oaks. The seasonal creek was completely cleaned out, made to be deeper and wider in anticipation of the heaving 2016 rains, with large native boulders from the property. Pistache trees were strategically planted for fall color. With one neighbor, on the West side of the property, vines were planted along their chain link fence for privacy for a private garden off the master bedroom. Wood fencing provides the majority of necessary enclosures.

A current interior design trend is the use of floor-to-ceiling color saturation, where paint colors envelop an entire space. When designing the primary en-suite bathroom for my personal residence, "The French Chateau," I wanted to explore this trend. Selecting Sherwin Williams' "Sleepy Blue" as the paint color, we adorned the bathroom from base to crown, creating a spa-like ambiance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As I embarked on the journey of selecting art and accentuating the space, I found it challenging to source art that would infuse the ideal color scheme and fit the space perfectly. I decided that commissioning a custom piece would be the best solution. Eventually I realized that I, myself, was the ideal artist. Being an art major in college and passionate about all forms of creativity, the notion of crafting such an intimate piece for a personal space felt right. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I began painting this piece, drawing inspiration from my own story. The artwork encompasses multiple layers, mirroring the chapters of my journey. The initial layer exudes sweetness and simplicity, reflecting the innocence of childhood. Subsequent layers illustrate warm and joyful tones, symbolizing adolescence and falling in love. As the story unfolds, layers of hurt and pain emerge, portraying challenging times, lost friendships, infertility, the closure of my cherished boutique in 2016, and other profound moments in my life.
