Country House Living Room: New Tile Floor – To better conduct the heat, we replaced the old wood floors with porcelain tile. New radiators, insulation, ductwork, and enclosing the basement staircase improved the function of their HVAC. Fireplace Makeover – To create a new focal point for the living room, we installed a new fire box, new mantle, and floor to ceiling stone. The goal was to draw the eye up to the vaulted beamed ceiling. Open Concept Layout – The wall between the kitchen and living room was removed to connect the two spaces. We added new cabinetry along the wall with a tall bookcase. Since they didn’t use their formal dining room, a small dining table was added to the living room. New Railing & Stairs – The staircase to the kitchen area was tricky because we needed to find a style that would make it feel airy. We did a glass enclosure with a simple metal railing and moved the staircase to the center of the room to allow room for the piano.

Bird & Branch Photography This project included a whole first floor and basement remodel. With the first floor, the space where the laundry room was originally located was converted and instead utilized for the kitchen area. A new floor system was framed to provide a new laundry room in the garage. Several walls were removed to open up the space of the kitchen to the rest of the first floor. Granite countertops, custom glazed cabinetry, and hand scraped wood floors were included in this kitchen. For aesthetics and style, the island in the middle of the kitchen was stained to provide a contrast to the cream/white colored cabinets throughout the kitchen. The material over the fireplace was removed, new tile was installed, and the walled ceiling and woodwork were repainted. Like the kitchen, the basement included a new hand scraped wood floor. The basement was completely gutted, framed, drywalled, and finished like the first floor as well. A new bar with custom cabinetry was installed. Along the foot of the cabinets of the bar a new metal bar was installed to provide a commercial feel. Pendant lights were installed to hang just above those seated at the bar. A new full bathroom and closet were added in the basement as well.

A vintage 1950s Jean Prouve table here along with a custom bone inlay starburst table, hand silk-screened draperies, custom ash/walnut cabinets, and sofas designed by Melina Copass & Preston Sharp. Due to the challenging long and narrow shape of this room, custom designed sofas, especially a Tete-a-Tete style, were needed to create combination seating for around the fireplace and the adjacent TV wall. Atascadero bungalow gets a much needed update. We removed the dropped ceiling and peninsula creating an open space that flows into the dining room. The monochromatic color scheme adds to the feeling of spaciousness and the large island allows this family to congregate and visit in the kitchen during meal prep, something that couldn't happen in the former kitchen layout.
