When our clients moved into their already built home they decided to live in it for a while before making any changes. Once they were settled they decided to hire us as their interior designers to renovate and redesign various spaces of their home. As they selected the spaces to be renovated they expressed a strong need for storage and customization. They allowed us to design every detail as well as oversee the entire construction process directing our team of skilled craftsmen. The home is a traditional home so it was important for us to retain some of the traditional elements while incorporating our clients style preferences. The home is located in the City of Clyde Hill, an affluent suburb east of Seatte, across Lake Washington. The project was designed to capture views of the three large and beautiful Douglas Fir trees that are located in the backyard - it incorporates a three-story glazed atrium at the center of the house - which also brings in sunlight and frames views of the sky. The atrium is three stories tall and provides a connection between the indoor and the outdoor at every level in the house - both physically and visually. The glazed atrium not only provides transparency, ample natural light and a visual connection between spaces in the home – it also works as the main organizing element for the layout of the spaces - and, in the warmer summer months, it provides natural ventilation.

Our clients on this project were inspired by their travels to Asia and wanted to mimic this aesthetic at their DC property. We designed a water feature that effectively masks adjacent traffic noise and maintains a small footprint.
