Our inspiration for this home was an updated and refined approach to Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Prairie-style”; one that responds well to the harsh Central Texas heat. By DESIGN we achieved soft balanced and glare-free daylighting, comfortable temperatures via passive solar control measures, energy efficiency without reliance on maintenance-intensive Green “gizmos” and lower exterior maintenance. The client’s desire for a healthy, comfortable and fun home to raise a young family and to accommodate extended visitor stays, while being environmentally responsible through “high performance” building attributes, was met. Harmonious response to the site’s micro-climate, excellent Indoor Air Quality, enhanced natural ventilation strategies, and an elegant bug-free semi-outdoor “living room” that connects one to the outdoors are a few examples of the architect’s approach to Green by Design that results in a home that exceeds the expectations of its owners. My client had recently visited England and wanted an authentic European look, with timber framing and steep pitch roofs. She also wanted lots of craftsman style woodwork in the home, with unique windows, balconies and overlooks. I designed the home with all this in mind, but also defined the spaces to take advantage of the long views throughout the home. The land was flat, so I created ways to get daylight into the lower level. Without ever compromising the attributes that make a Tudor a Tudor, the home is designed and built to the level of the old Tudors, with the modern, open plan living for today.

HOMEREDI once again partnered with Samantha Murray from SM Design to bring our clients vision of a luxurious contemporary spa like Master Bathroom in to reality. Among many attributes this generous size bathroom boasts a stand alone vessel tub, Wall mounted double vanity from Porcelanosa and custom made stand up shower. Our clients wanted to carry through the theme of greenery, plants and vegetation so prominent in their residence for this double door and sidelite entrance. Insulated Glass Units (IGU) that encapsulate the decorative glass feature tempered glass on the interior and exterior. This 1" thick style unit has great sound-proofing, energy efficiency and worry free maintenance attributes. We used The Tiffany technique, or copper-foil method as it is also known to fabricate. This is the same method used to create Tiffany Shades, and offers greater detail and nuances of line and shape to be highlighted in the design.
