Sited carefully around a majestic oak tree, this new 7,000 square-foot residence in Kent Woodlands is built in the authentic craftsman tradition, with an emphasis on highlighting building materials and handcrafted details reminiscent of the stately Green & Green homes in Southern California. The philosophy of the Craftsman Movement embraces the honest expression of materials and allows the handcrafted details themselves to be the ornaments. This philosophy is evident throughout this project. Large hand tooled beams adorn the building while natural boulders edge the landscape.

A shaker style kitchen in an authentic 1920's vintage craftsman bungalow. Located in the heart of downtown Prosser, WA. It was said to be the original mayor's home. Joe & Kathy very much wanted to honor the original heritage of the home. Kathy had a pretty clear vision of the features she wanted. With period design, the challenge is always to honor the old, while upgrading to the new. That's where I came in. They had the vision, I provided the mechanics and design tool box. To get the space for this kitchen, we converted the back screened porch into living space by installing a load-bearing beam and removing the original back wall of the home. One we had some room to work with, we were off. Photo: Warren Smith, CMKBD, CAPS

An old Italian farmhouse with layered colorful crusty fresco walls was the inspiration for this fantastic multi use laundry and floral fan favorite room at the 2013 philharmonic house of design. I enlisted the one and only Peter Bolton to duplicate such authentic finishes for the walls and ceiling. The room was striped of all its upper cabinet doors to expose open shelfing to display collections of found treasures from the garden and sea, loads of garden books, garden tools, twine, vessels and containers to arrange flowers and orchids for the home. What a wonderful place to do laundry!

The heart of the kitchen: a dual-fuel Mugnaini pizza oven seamlessly integrated into custom cabinetry. Sourced specially from California, it represents the homeowner’s passion for authentic cooking, designed to burn both wood and gas for flexibility and precision. As a rare residential installation in North Carolina, this oven is more than a feature, it’s a statement of craftsmanship and personal tradition, with every detail, including custom louvers and storage for oven cleaning.

This close-up view captures the true character of Hand Hewn Timbers, crisscrossing the dining room ceiling as exposed beams and posts against smooth plaster above. Every axe mark, adze cut, and weathered notch tells the story of the hand tools once used to shape these timbers, bringing genuine 19th century craftsmanship into the heart of this Minnesota barnhouse.
Hand Hewn Timbers of Ash, Elm, Oak, Maple, and Hemlock are salvaged from our neighboring Wisconsin, true relics of the American Midwest. As farmers spread across the area, they built their homes and barns with whatever trees were on their property, using axes and adzes to hewe the logs by hand. That process left behind truly unique timbers covered in the marks and dents created by the inexact hand tools, visible in every beam captured here.
Whether you are a homebuilder, a home remodeling contractor, or a homeowner drawn to authentic Hand Hewn Timbers, Manomin Resawn Timbers can help bring that one of a kind rustic style into your own home. Visit our showroom in Hugo, MN or reach out to us with a call or a message.

This Hand Hewn Timber mantel is a true relic of the American Midwest, salvaged from historic barns and homes across neighboring Wisconsin where early farmers shaped these timbers by hand using axes and adzes. The warm honey-brown tones, visible tool marks, and natural checking along the face are the direct result of that handwork, marks that no modern lumber can replicate and no manufactured material can fake. Set against a white shiplap surround, patterned tile firebox, and dusty blue walls, this mantel proves that authentic antique character belongs just as naturally in a mid century modern living room as it does in a rustic farmhouse.
Whether you are a homebuilder, a home remodeling contractor, or a homeowner looking to add a Hand Hewn Timber mantel to a modern or transitional fireplace, Manomin Resawn Timbers has been helping people discover the antique charm of reclaimed wood since 2002. We ship nationwide and are happy to help you find the right piece from anywhere in the country. Visit our showroom in Hugo, MN or reach out to us with a call or a message to get started.
