In addition to this cellar and multiple others in the Pamplemousse Restaurant grounds, we also had the pleasure of designing and building Jeffrey's personal home cellar as well.

Originally designed and built by Vintage Wine Cellars in 2001, this custom wine room boasts triple deep redwood wine racking, a three opening door system, and room for up to 800 bottles. With plenty of differentiated display, the team at Pamplemousse is able to regularly showcase their true love and understanding (as well as fantastic collection) for guests coming in looking to enjoy a world class bottle in this world class restaurant.
Recently, Vintage Wine Cellars updated this cellar with LED lighting, really enhancing the showcasing ability of this small wine cellar. With many incredible wines such as top assortments of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Cult Napa Cabernets, and more vintages of First Growth Bordeaux wines that you could ever choose from, it's no wonder that Pamplemousse Grille in Solana Beach, Del Mar, San Diego is still going strong in its 23rd year.

Chef and Owner Jeffrey Strauss has a flair for presentation and an unquestionable talent for taste that has delighted the palates of the world’s most powerful business brokers, socialites, United States presidents, and scores of American and foreign dignitaries.
Strauss has prepared everything from intimate meals to huge banquets for the most prestigious corporate names in America and Europe (Tiffany and Co., Disney Studios, Paine Webber, UNOCAL, 20th Century Fox, Neiman Marcus, Hermes, Channel, Gucci, MCA, Amblin Entertainment); for such dignitaries as President George W. Bush, the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Hillary Rodham Clinton, the wedding of Caroline Kennedy, and the 1984 inaugural luncheon for Ronald Reagan; and entertainment luminaries such as Aaron Spelling, Tom Hanks, Elton John, and Steven Spielberg.
With the creation of Pamplemousse Grille, Chef Strauss has turned from the world of “Chef to the Stars” to creating food that he loves to eat and serve to “family and friends.” Since its debut, Pamplemousse Grille has received many local & national awards including “Best Restaurant, People’s Choice” San Diego Home & Gardens; “Best New Restaurant”, “Best Caterer”, & “San Diego’s Best Chef” San Diego Magazine, Zagat Rated #1 Restaurant in San Diego for three consecutive years, and 2008 San Diego Nice Guy of the Year.
East Coast-bred, Chef was among nine out of eight hundred applicants to receive a Culinary Apprenticeship at the Greenbriar Hotel Culinary Educational Program in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia, where he earned the Gold Medal for Culinary Showmanship. At age 23, Jeffrey became the executive chef of the Glorious Cafe in Washington D. C. His patience and dedication allowed Glorious Cafe to begin strongly and quickly gain respect throughout the Beltway. Shortly thereafter, he was persuaded to relocate to New York City to join Glorious Foods legendary catering operation. Throughout his nine years at Glorious Food (1985-1993), Jeffrey would take leaves of absence to concentrate on higher learning in some of Europe’s finest Michelin-rated restaurants. Upon his return from this culinary powerhouses in Europe, Jeffrey would transfer his learning into teaching. My ‘professional father,’ Chef Jean-Claude Nédélec at Glorious Food, taught me the power and art of food presentation,” Chef Strauss recalls. “And the renowned Chefs Roger Vergé at Le Moulin De Mougins and Albert Roux at Le Gavroche in London taught me the beauty of food.” Jeffrey spent a year with Chef Albert, serving as saucier and chef tourant of his Michelin 3 Star restaurant. To enhance the young chef’s knowledge, Chef Albert arranged two-week observational stays for his protégé in such renowned restaurants as Marchesi in Italy, and France’s acclaimed Charcuterie Matu, Restaurant Guy Savoy, Vonnas-George Blanc, Restaurant Troisgros and Restaurant Bocuse.

The owner raises cutting horses, but has spent much of her free time traveling the world. She has brought art and artifacts from those journeys into her home, and they work in combination to establish an uncommon mood. The stone floor, stucco and plaster walls, troweled stucco exterior, and heavy beam and trussed ceilings welcome guests as they enter the home. Open spaces for socializing, both outdoor and in, are what those guests experience but to ensure the owner's privacy, certain spaces such as the master suite and office can be essentially 'locked off' from the rest of the home. Even in the context of the region's extraordinary rock formations, North Star Ranch conveys a strong sense of personality.
Studio Outside Landscape ArchitectsThe House by the Creek is an example of design subtlety, finely executed detailing, and preservation of a riparian corridor. The project sits on a wooded lot in an established Dallas neighborhood bordered by Turtle Creek and a busy four-lane street yet feels serene because of heavy tree cover and the orientation of the home. The project modestly uses high quality materials that blend easily with the landscape: slate from India, Texas limestone, almondrilla wood, stainless steel, and copper. The great room and dining room welcome the outdoors in with walls of windows and sliding glass doors accessing a full covered deck with outdoor kitchen and panoramic views. The great room showcases exquisite wood beams and gorgeous hardwood floors.
Decorated with a light and airy decor, creamy neutral accents complement the richness of the home’s extensive tile and brick work. A mix of wood, stone and brick, show stopping light fixtures, and textured design elements are found throughout the Arrabelle. The finished lower level features a cozy theater room in a classic movie themed decor. Designed for entertaining, the rec room walks out to an outdoor living area with hot tub, and showcases a soda bar, game room and enclosed theater room. Be sure to look for memorable touches like the wine rack Murphy door at the entry into the wine room.
Mark Levy StudioThe 9' x 28' entry to our client's home features custom, one-of-a-kind leaded beveled glass in two doors & sidelites on the ground floor and four matching windows and transom above on the mezzanine. The mural features over 14,000 inches of hand-beveling on 1/2" thick glass. The art-glass panels are encapsulated in I.G.U.'s (insulated glass units) that offer ease of maintenance, acoustical dampening and protection from damage. The design is based on traditional European iron & glass doors.

Miller-Roodell Architects LtdWith family members spread across the globe, the patriarch of the family wanted to establish a home base that would give them all a chance to recreate, reconnect, and relax over what sometimes could be trips of a month or more. Their large parcel of land is not far from Yellowstone Park, and a trout stream and several ponds are just a few of the prevalent water features. The property encompasses the top of a mountain with a lookout tower, and down below, this approximately 7000 square foot home delivers a sense of intimacy. Each bedroom is a master suite, with fireplace, private balcony, and adjoining children’s room, to ensure all generations have the space they need. Our shared approach was to celebrate the romantic lodges of the past, leading us to choose small round logs like those used in Old Faithful Lodge, as one example. With plenty of space inside and out to decompress—but cozy, welcoming living areas as well—this lodge becomes the perfect family gathering place.
Premier ServiceInspired by the client’s frequent trips to Martha’s Vineyard, this renovation project’s primary goal was to create a landscape complimentary of this Colonial Revival style home, reminiscent of Edgartown, Massachusetts.
The front landscape was specifically designed to offer expansive views of a layered horizontal foundation planting that nestled itself around the base of the home, allowing the home itself to be the star of the show. Flowering borders that rotate with the seasons create a strong foreground while a clipped yew hedge forms the barrier needed to separate the billowing panicle hydrangeas in the background. The axial design of the herringbone front walk, punctuated by a bluestone transitional space and formal cast limestone urn, create an axis by which all other landscape elements are symmetrically mirrored.
Desiring a rear entertainment space separated from the adjacent 4 car garage and recreational lawn, a series of intimate gathering spaces were designed to include Edgartown inspired architectural features that would establish the character of the garden while setting the backdrop for a robust mix of perennials, grasses, hedges and annuals. Mimicking the pattern and detail previously established on the stone base of the home, individually hand chiseled pieces of Valders veneer were used to construct the garden walls. Reclaimed street pavers border a reconfigured bluestone patio and create a garden walk that separates the garden into 4 equal quadrants; each section of the walk connecting itself to a prominent feature of the garden. The central paver transition space is backed by a concentric hedge of low growing boxwoods, delineating annual and perennial. The relocation of an arbor, in conjunction with a new evergreen hedge, creates the desired partition between relaxed conversation and open lawn activities. A brick masonry water feature with reclaimed 1916 antique cast iron tub anchors the garden and terminates the perennial adorned paver walk opposite the home’s fireplace centered within the main seating area.

Progressive Design BuildThis Bonita Springs home, nestled in the golf course community of Bonita Bay, had never been renovated and lacked sufficient space to accommodate these homeowners’ needs. Working initially with preliminary drawings provided by their daughter who is a licensed architect, Progressive Design Build helped the homeowners establish a preliminary budget and set a construction schedule. Once the couple knew what they wanted and had a design brief in hand, they set about creating a new, traditional and functional room addition. Progressive Design Build teamed up with the architect to produce a final set of working drawings.
The house addition consisted of a new master bedroom and master bathroom with vaulted ceilings, built-in cabinetry, and porcelain tile floors. To improve indoor/outdoor flow, Progressive Deign Build also renovated the homeowner’s pool deck.
Upon project completion, this project received top honors for remodeling excellence from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), receiving a Contractor of the Year (CotY) award.
One of the major challenges, other than a very limited lot size, was the threat of a massive hurricane during construction. Construction had to cease for over a week to ensure that there was no damage to the home, property or adjacent properties. Due to the inclement weather situations, the project went two weeks over the estimated time frame.
Since completion, Progressive Design Build designed and built two other remodeling projects for this southwest Florida homeowner.
