Inspiration for a contemporary dark wood floor powder room remodel in Chicago with a vessel sink, flat-panel cabinets, dark wood cabinets and purple walls

Backyard design that included multiple patio areas, 7 retaining walls, terracing and stairways down to the waterfront. Used Allan Block Europa Collection in an Abbey Blend Pattern. Wall has lighting for evening entertaining and use. Rocks were used to create an elegant waterfall on the top patio.

The design for this home in Palo Alto looked to create a union between the interior and exterior, blending the spaces in such a way as to allow residents to move seamlessly between the two environments. Expansive glazing was used throughout the home to complement this union, looking out onto a swimming pool centrally located within the courtyard. Within the living room, a large operable skylight brings in plentiful sunlight, while utilizing self tinting glass that adjusts to various lighting conditions throughout the day to ensure optimal comfort. For the exterior, a living wall was added to the garage that continues into the backyard. Extensive landscaping and a gabion wall was also created to provide privacy and contribute to the sense of the home as a tranquil oasis.

Walls are Ben. Moore Mt. Rainer Gray #2129-60 and the bulkhead is Ben. More Silver Cloud #2129-70. Bed Linens: Coverlet is custom made from John Robshaw for Duralee fabric. Ready-made duvet cover has been discontinued and is not longer available. There is a khaki color way available in the same pattern through Legacy Linens or custom through Cline Rose Designs. A farmhouse style was achieved in this new construction home by keeping the details clean and simple. Shaker style cabinets and square stair parts moldings set the backdrop for incorporating our clients’ love of Asian antiques. We had fun re-purposing the different pieces she already had: two were made into bathroom vanities; and the turquoise console became the star of the house, welcoming visitors as they walk through the front door.

Small spaces can provide big challenges. These homeowners wanted to include a lot in their tiny backyard! There were also numerous city restrictions to comply with, and elevations to contend with. The design includes several seating areas, a fire feature that can be seen from the home's front entry, a water wall, and retractable screens. This was a "design only" project.
