Inspiration for a large industrial light wood floor living room remodel in Minneapolis

An updated master bathroom in a vintage 1900 cottage. The modern glassed-in shower enclosure adds 21st century amenities with the mounted towel bar on the door, a rain head shower and hand held sprayer. The knee wall provides privacy for the toilet area and additional storage with the built-in niche on the outside while supporting a corner bench in the shower. Although the tile looks like marble it is actually easy care porcelain. Beaded wainscoting was designed to look original to the period and all moldings were matched to the homes original trim of the door and doorframe. Custom furniture, paintings and iron screens elevate the room when combined with the visual interest of geometric patterned light fixtures and horizontal striped curtains in a variation of colors. This one is near and dear to my heart. Not only is it in my own backyard, it is also the first remodel project I've gotten to do for myself! This space was previously a detached two car garage in our backyard. Seeing it transform from such a utilitarian, dingy garage to a bright and cheery little retreat was so much fun and so rewarding! This space was slated to be an AirBNB from the start and I knew I wanted to design it for the adventure seeker, the savvy traveler, and those who appreciate all the little design details . My goal was to make a warm and inviting space that our guests would look forward to coming back to after a full day of exploring the city or gorgeous mountains and trails that define the Pacific Northwest. I also wanted to make a few bold choices, like the hunter green kitchen cabinets or patterned tile, because while a lot of people might be too timid to make those choice for their own home, who doesn't love trying it on for a few days?At the end of the day I am so happy with how it all turned out!

The owner of this urban residence, which exhibits many natural materials, i.e., exposed brick and stucco interior walls, originally signed a contract to update two of his bathrooms. But, after the design and material phase began in earnest, he opted to removed the second bathroom from the project and focus entirely on the Master Bath. And, what a marvelous outcome! With the new design, two full­height walls were removed (one completely and the second lowered to knee­wall height) allowing the eye to sweep the entire space as one enters. The views, no longer hindered by walls, have been completely enhanced by the materials chosen. The limestone counter and tub deck are mated with the Rift­cut Oak, Espresso stained, custom cabinets and panels. Cabinetry, within the extended design, that appears to float in space, is highlighted by the under­cabinet LED lighting, creating glowing warmth that spills across the butter­colored floor. Stacked stone wall and splash tiles are balanced perfectly with the honed travertine floor tiles; floor tiles installed with a linear stagger, again, pulling the viewer into the restful space. The lighting, introduced, appropriately, in several layers, includes ambient, task (sconces installed through the mirroring), and “sparkle” (under­cabinet LED and mirror­frame LED). The final detail that marries this beautifully remodeled bathroom was the removal of the entry slab hinged door and in the installation of the new custom five glass panel pocket door. Lower level half bathroom. We wanted an industrial look and feel so we left the plumbing exposed. We also used the leftover pallets from the appliance delivery to make our accent wall.

Building a Dream Backyard When this homeowner started the design process of a new backyard, Braen Supply was immediately there to supply all the stone materials. The home was part of a new development, so the challenge was to make the home stand out while still addressing specific areas of the existing backyard, such as the steep grade. Working With the Experts Taking the steep grade into consideration, moss rock boulders were selected to create stairs down to the lower area of the backyard where the fire pit sits. The grade of the backyard also allowed for the infinity pool, full color bluestone pattern was selected as the veneer for the back wall of the infinity pool. Braen Supply chose Tennessee gray and bluestone to create a seamless transition from the front of the house to the back of the house. Although they are two different stones, they work nicely together to complete the overall design and tone of the home. It all came together and made the perfect backyard. This Tiny Home features Blue stained pine for the ceiling, pine wall boards in white, custom barn door, custom steel work throughout, and modern minimalist window trim.

The lovely primary bedroom feels modern, yet cozy. The custom octagon wall panels create a sophisticated atmosphere, while the chandelier and modern bedding add a punch of personality to the space.
