The lake level of this home was dark and dreary. Everywhere you looked, there was brown... dark brown painted window casings, door casings, and baseboards... brown stained concrete (in bad shape), brown wood countertops, brown backsplash tile, and black cabinetry. We refinished the concrete floor into a beautiful water blue, removed the rustic stone fireplace and created a beautiful quartzite stone surround, used quartzite countertops that flow with the new marble mosaic backsplash, lightened up the cabinetry in a soft gray, and added lots of layers of color in the furnishings. The result is was a fun space to hang out with family and friends.

This 1960s home was in original condition and badly in need of some functional and cosmetic updates. We opened up the great room into an open concept space, converted the half bathroom downstairs into a full bath, and updated finishes all throughout with finishes that felt period-appropriate and reflective of the owner's Asian heritage.

Summary of Scope: gut renovation/reconfiguration of kitchen, coffee bar, mudroom, powder room, 2 kids baths, guest bath, master bath and dressing room, kids study and playroom, study/office, laundry room, restoration of windows, adding wallpapers and window treatments
Background/description: The house was built in 1908, my clients are only the 3rd owners of the house. The prior owner lived there from 1940s until she died at age of 98! The old home had loads of character and charm but was in pretty bad condition and desperately needed updates. The clients purchased the home a few years ago and did some work before they moved in (roof, HVAC, electrical) but decided to live in the house for a 6 months or so before embarking on the next renovation phase. I had worked with the clients previously on the wife's office space and a few projects in a previous home including the nursery design for their first child so they reached out when they were ready to start thinking about the interior renovations. The goal was to respect and enhance the historic architecture of the home but make the spaces more functional for this couple with two small kids. Clients were open to color and some more bold/unexpected design choices. The design style is updated traditional with some eclectic elements. An early design decision was to incorporate a dark colored french range which would be the focal point of the kitchen and to do dark high gloss lacquered cabinets in the adjacent coffee bar, and we ultimately went with dark green.

This home has gone through a major transformation! There was a wall separating the kitchen from the family room. Once the wall was gone, we filled up the space with cabinetry and made this one wonderful entertaining space! The large island is fabulous for serving and working. the long wall of cabinetry in the family room serves as a bar and entertainment center. The Wellborn cabinets are Pebble and Coffee stain with a shaker door. The quartz countertops are Cambria. The backsplash has a beautiful subway tile that blends very well with the cabinetry. And the queen of the castle is hanging out on the coffee table. She loves her new space!

This L-shaped kitchen features a gray quartz countertop with a wonderful curve at the corner, and opposite a small coffee bar with three wave-like curves.

The Lola chaise represents the ultimate in modern elegance, with its angular and multi-faceted design. Its form speaks to the elegance of the Deco Era, while its geometric and complex lines allude to contemporary design.
