This terrific headboard was the start of the whole room transformation. It was found by the client at a great store in Hudson Quebec called "2 Barn Owls", along with the dressing table and the large painting opposite the bed!

Inspiration for a contemporary closet remodel in Toronto

A truly special property located in a sought after Toronto neighbourhood, this large family home renovation sought to retain the charm and history of the house in a contemporary way. The full scale underpin and large rear addition served to bring in natural light and expand the possibilities of the spaces. A vaulted third floor contains the master bedroom and bathroom with a cozy library/lounge that walks out to the third floor deck - revealing views of the downtown skyline. A soft inviting palate permeates the home but is juxtaposed with punches of colour, pattern and texture. The interior design playfully combines original parts of the home with vintage elements as well as glass and steel and millwork to divide spaces for working, relaxing and entertaining. An enormous sliding glass door opens the main floor to the sprawling rear deck and pool/hot tub area seamlessly. Across the lawn - the garage clad with reclaimed barnboard from the old structure has been newly build and fully rough-in for a potential future laneway house.

The dressers flanking the bed are from Hooker Furniture. We liked the antiqued mirror on the front of the chests, it added another texture that complimented the other elements nicely.

The CrissCross light fixture (from Currey & Company) was chosen because it replicates the pattern in the headboard. The bedding was discovered at Simon's in downtown Montreal.

The other wish the client had was for a barn style door. This was done using pine, and oiling the door after it was stained, so it would be easier to keep clean. BAMwood (Lachine, Quebec) supplied and installed the door.

This is the view from the hallway. We found crystal doorknobs to coordinate with the crystal ball detail on the table lamps. Closet doors were sliders when we first started the project, but there was plenty of room for swing-out doors, so we added these, and mirrored the outside AND the inside of the closet doors!
