In this project, we used reclaimed barnboard as a natural way to balance an air of rusticity with a classic, clean European look. Another technique of this project was the mingling of the barnboard and clean, white cabinets. The kitchen island, facing the sink, plays up the stark contrast, with the barn siding wrapped around crisp white slab-style drawers and topped with white quartz. The wall above the stove has clean-lined floating shelves and eye-catching hand-glazed tile. Throughout, cupped pulls and lanterns lean toward the traditional and maintain the clean lines. The apron sink, with its exposed front-facing side, was a perfect complement to the barnboard. A wall of full-height cabinetry with rolling barnboard doors. Underneath, furniture feet lend a touch of elegant simplicity.

this picture shows the 2 tier island again, and a view of the new open concept. The flooring was also installed by A.J. McCullough Carpentry. It is white oak. Brand new stainless steel appliances and added recessed lighting. Andrew McCullough

The painting opposite the bed was a lucky find the home owner discovered on a jaunt, along with the headboard and the dressing table!

We picked up all the bed linens at Simons, a terrific store in Montreal. The solid gray sheets (pillow cases) are bamboo!

The other wish the client had was for a barn style door. This was done using pine, and oiling the door after it was stained, so it would be easier to keep clean. BAMwood (Lachine, Quebec) supplied and installed the door.

The CrissCross light fixture (from Currey & Company) was chosen because it replicates the pattern in the headboard. The bedding was discovered at Simon's in downtown Montreal.

This is the view from the hallway. We found crystal doorknobs to coordinate with the crystal ball detail on the table lamps. Closet doors were sliders when we first started the project, but there was plenty of room for swing-out doors, so we added these, and mirrored the outside AND the inside of the closet doors!
