This unique 2.75 acre property, located on the Roosevelt Channel on Captiva Island, was transformed from a barren construction site into a tropical garden that would rival some botanical gardens. The homeowners are garden enthusiasts and collaborated closely with Bob Walsh and the landscape team to create a variety of lush landscape gardens including; a Tropical Flowering Tree Garden, Moonlight & Scent Garden, Citrus & Edible Garden, Specimen Palm Gardens, Tropical Shade Gardens, Butterfly Gardens, and Waterfall Gardens with lagoon pools for Koi fish. Outdoor living was of primary consideration as well. The Seminole Indian Chickee Hut overlooks a private Island Beach with hammocks to offer a retreat for entertaining and relaxation while a 42 foot circular Stone Labyrinth is a place for meditation and contemplation. Moon and accent landscape lighting allow the numerous pathways and gardens to be enjoyed well beyond sunset.

Float this beautiful rustic river pool around the tiki hut and swim up bar, under the bridge and swim through the grotto with a moon roof. The pool includes an oversized hot tub, elevated tanning ledge and beach entry.

Fu-Tung Cheng, CHENG Design • Front Exterior, Del Mar House Airstream trailers and Quonset huts inspired the design for this house docked against a gentle slope near San Diego. Cheng Design pits hard-edged industrial materials — concrete block, galvanized siding, steel columns, stainless steel cable and welded I-beams — against softer residential elements, such as stained-wood siding and a grid of exposed wood framing that supports the roof. Our goal is to make outdoor living more feasible in the summer. We know what an investment it is to make your backyard an oasis, so we like to make it livable by adding a shade that actually keeps you cool. At MTR we believe in making your backyard a vacation you can come home to everyday to escape after work. Only downside: your friends won't want to hang out at their lame palapa-less place anymore.

The home was purchased as a vacation property and needed to be completely remodeled inside and out. Being from New Jersey, the homeowners wanted to capture a tranquil, tropical look with as little maintenance as possible. We removed a lot of hardscape from the front yard, to soften the curb appeal and introduce color and texture. The homeowners wanted the backyard to be a retreat where they could sit and enjoy the space, and fully embrace the 'vacation' aspect of the home. We created a two-level deck and patio, with outdoor kitchen, retractable screen, and pergola for entertaining. Raised planters soften the space, and an accent wall buffers noise from the air conditioner. We re-roofed an existing tiki hut, where the homeowner practices yoga, and incorporated statues found on site. Full property landscape lighting and drip irrigation were introduced and we re-landscaped the entire yard. Photo by Pono Visual Expression

This is an outdoor island girl, where we replaced the roof structure and thatch entirely. The natural thatch was no longer holding up for this couple so we made a structure and added the synthetic thatch that they will probably never have to change or replace. The great thing about our thatch is that it requires zero maintenance and will maintain the same fresh, tropical, and authentic look!

At MTR we pride ourselves of hand picking every single piece of wood used on our structures. We make sure you're getting the quality you pay for in order to ensure longevity and durability. We love to make our thatched cabanas with 8" x 8" Red Western Cedar posts. These posts made this 18' x 21' cabana very unique, strong, and impressive. We make sure all of our works leaves this impression.

On this project, we were hired to completely renovate an outdated and not functional outdoor space for our clients. To do this, we transformed a tiki hut style outdoor bar area into a full, contemporary outdoor kitchen and living area. A few interesting components of this were being able to utilize the existing structure while bringing in great features. Now our clients have an outdoor kitchen and living area which fits their lifestyle perfectly and which they are proud to show off when hosting. Project Focus Photography
