In this project Lazar has created another of his hyper-livable top floors—half indoors, half outdoors—that could arguably be the beating heart of the home. A sunny gathering space and gourmet kitchen are gathered under an elevated ceiling. We remodeled this 5,400-square foot, 3-story home on ’s Second Street to give it a more current feel, with cleaner lines and textures. The result is more and less Old World Europe, which is exactly what we were going for. We worked with much of the client’s existing furniture, which has a southern flavor, compliments of its former South Carolina home. This was an additional challenge, because we had to integrate a variety of influences in an intentional and cohesive way. We painted nearly every surface white in the 5-bed, 6-bath home, and added light-colored window treatments, which brightened and opened the space. Additionally, we replaced all the light fixtures for a more integrated aesthetic. Well-selected accessories help pull the space together, infusing a consistent sense of peace and comfort.

A moody primary bedroom that blends modern elegance with classic charm. A deep green velvet bed with nailhead trim serves as the centerpiece, flanked by dark wood nightstands and warm brass lamps. The Laurel was a project that required a rigorous lesson in southern architectural vernacular. The site being located in the hot climate of the Carolina shoreline, the client was eager to capture cross breezes and utilize outdoor entertainment spaces. The home was designed with three covered porches, one partially covered courtyard, and one screened porch, all accessed by way of French doors and extra tall double-hung windows. The open main level floor plan centers on common livings spaces, while still leaving room for a luxurious master suite. The upstairs loft includes two individual bed and bath suites, providing ample room for guests. Native materials were used in construction, including a metal roof and local timber.

This charming white and blue bunk room was built with lots of storage to keep the playful space clean and organized. The blue and white built-in twin beds with built-in dresser storage and built-in cabinets on both ends for storing books etc. The wall sconces are oil rubbed bronze to compliment the oil rubbed bronze cabinet hardware, black windows and black ceiling fan. The hall cabinet has a wood counter and white shaker cabinets. The succulent art is local artist Robin McCoy.

The guest room is anchored by a fully upholstered bed with a tufted back and nailhead trim. The cream herringbone fabric pops against the patterned grasscloth wallpaper by Schumacher. Linen bedding adds texture to the space, while wool drapery panels soften the large bay window. Heidi Zeiger
