Our experience with Visbeen Architects started with a vision we had of our dream home. A home we had seen many times in our travels throughout the northeast coast. The romantic shingled homes with roof sweeps and lots of architectural detail. Wayne Visbeen took those thoughts and visions we talked about with him, and sketched them out in front of us! As if he could see what we were seeing. His talent is truly amazing. After further sketches and layout and with the help of Rhyse Altmans understanding of the historical detail of that type of home we had a design! As that design and build came into fruition, it was even more beautiful than the prints. Going through the home room by room is like turning the pages in a design magazine and it is our home! We could not be more pleased with the work and vision of Wayne Visbeen, Rhyse Altman and all of the people at Visbeen Architects who were so helpful throughout the process (especially since we live in Tennessee and the build was in northern Michigan). Working with the Visbeen team was a terrific experience from beginning to end. At our first meeting, Wayne asked us thoughtful and insightful questions about our goals and vision for our lake house. I am working with Wayne on a design for the remodel of my home and I cannot express enough how impressed I am with both the process and the results. Wayne, Angela, and Kristen were great! My wife has been a fan of Wayne's work for years. As the founder of Impresa Modular, we were definitely using modular construction to build our new home. Wayne has experience designing with modular construction in mind and the match was perfect. We personally went to visit him and his team at his studio. We described a historic home look with craftsmen flare. In an afternoon we accomplished what would have taken months to do. Before our eyes, he sketched out our beautifully designed home. I just finished my initial meeting with Wayne Visbeen and experienced the wonder of Visbeen Architects! I am in awe of the creativity of Wayne and his team! I was just starting the architectural investigative process for our dream lake home and came across Visbeen Architects on line. Seeing the spontaneous creative process that unfolds in Wayne's interpretation of his client's needs is nothing short of amazing! I scheduled a meeting with Wayne to review our hopes and desires for our future lake home. This initial 2-3 hour meeting was so comprehensive and intuitive! Wayne created a complete and beautiful interpretation of our wants! He sketched out numerous 3-D interpretations in response to our thoughts. Our home will be not be huge, and though Visbeen has created huge amazing structures, I had a design experience as if we were one of Wayne's largest! I am sold on Visbeen architects following this initial meeting. The professional environment and creative team is so exciting, and I know we will be in the best of hands. I have followed Wayne and his work for the past 5+ years and have been very impressed with what I have seen. This past week my wife and I had finally traveled to meet Wayne and Angela. ~ Mark and Cari Stables After years of trying to decide where to retire, we focused on an area in SW Michigan where we had enjoyed countless times with family, and close enough for friends and relatives to visit. Once the property was acquired, we set out to find the right architect. Cari methodically searched the internet for home styles, settings and projects that illustrated what our future home could look like. Similar to others, we came across Visbeen Architects through their online presence and are very glad we did. This was reinforced when Wayne and Angela agreed to meet us at our land site and then spent the next two hours at a local restaurant discussing our vision, ideas and budget. As we talked, Wayne pulled out his “magical” pen and began free drawing a design. What was even more astonishing was to see his ability to spontaneously adapt to conflicting thoughts and incorporate them into a creative, yet efficient design. Wayne’s talent is unique…it’s like watching a Disney creator make their characters come to life. Wayne and Matt, who we then worked with, addressed our needs, overcame concerns, and offered several key comments that married our design goals and budget. Not only did Visbeen create the perfect right-sized home for us, they introduced us to their interior design team and an outstanding general contractor who are doing a top-notch job with the build. After our first meeting with Wayne, I knew we had made the right decision by contacting him. He worked his magic and within two hours our dream house came to life on paper. He asked all the right questions and some we had not even thought of. His expertise and innovative thinking helped us trim the house size by at least two thousand square feet by better utilization of space. I jokingly told him he was worth his weight in gold! Any expense in hiring him will be a drop in the bucket compared to the money he saved us with his design. We have built several custom homes and I can already tell Wayne and his team will be a welcome addition on this build.

Wayne is a visionary and very down-to-earth. Just giving him very crude napkin drawings with a few items we like in a home, he was able to design a home better than what I had pictured as best-case-scenario that fit not just our style, but our personalities as well. Watching him live sketch this home was like watching a magic trick and you can tell his passion and how excited he gets with different unique features. His space planning is also remarkable, he unlocked a ton of design space we didn't think previously possible. Even his interior and furniture design was breathtaking. Loved working with him, not only was he exceptional but he was a ton of fun to work with.

I am a framing contractor and I know the moment I am awarded a Visbeen project that things will flow smoothly. What impresses me the most about this firm is the level of thought that goes into a project. Not just what you see, but what you don't see under the surface deep in the bones of a building. We reached out to Visbeen Architects because we were feeling stuck on a remodel project and needed someone to help us understand how to make the best use of our space and a narrow lot. Wow - the experience with Wayne and team has been fantastic and we are continuing on with their help in the next phase of our project. The concepts he was able to put together live in a single session for us were remarkable and delivered just the creativity and collaboration we had been missing. There were things that we had considered, but not mentioned, that somehow he "knew" and ended up in our design. The process of sharing and evolving the process over a few hours is probably something that would take weeks with another team. We are looking forward to what comes next!

We were recently provided with the opportunity to attend a video conference with Wayne Visbeen…A ‘Virtual’ meeting, to discuss the design of our dream home. We had originally planned to visit personally with Wayne and his wife Angela Visbeen, of Visbeen Architects, at their office in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. We’d planned to make the trip, from the East Coast of Canada to their office, but due to the recent pandemic, those plans were quashed. In some respects, as we later came to find out, this was perhaps a lucky happenstance, as it saved us four days of travel along with return airfare, first to Toronto and then to on Detroit, two days of car rental and possibly four nights stay in a hotel. While there have been a multitude of favorable reviews written about the fine attributes that Wayne and his firm continue to offer to clients, suffice it to say, that in this respect, we were not disappointed. Within three short hours, Wayne gave us the warm, charismatic welcome and personal service for which he is known. Indeed, throughout our meeting, we felt as if we were his most important clients. For the purposes of this review, we will narrow our comments to the process of the “Virtual” meeting. The format used by Wayne is one that has become immensely popular of late… Zoom… Downloading and installing the program onto our computer was simple. Then, a day or so ahead, via email, we were sent an invitation to attend a Zoom meeting, at a particular date and time. As promised, the meeting began right on schedule. On our end of the virtual meeting, was a 27-inch wide-screen monitor and a simple web cam that we had mounted above the screen… My wife and I sat next to each other at a desk and as the meeting began, we were greeted with a full view of Wayne, sitting at his desk. The picture quality was excellent… As far as we were concerned, we were in the same room sitting across from Wayne in his office in East Grand Rapids. After a few minutes of exchanging pleasantries, we quickly got down to the business of discussing our dream home. Wayne showed us various plans and ideas, as he switched his camera view back and forth from our view of him, to one in which we saw his hands and his work surface, as he capably sketched various ideas regarding our design. As the meeting progressed, Wayne deftly brought my wife’s and my considerably divergent ideas of home plans together and after about two hours, a much clearer picture began to emerge of a design that we both loved. Throughout the virtual meeting, My wife and I were oblivious to the fact that we weren’t in the same room and were amazed and how, through Wayne’s patient coaching, we were able to come up with the final plan, upon which we both agreed. The last hour or so of our virtual meeting, was spent carving out many of the details of what we hope will eventually become the final blueprint of our dream home. As our three-hour virtual meeting drew to a close, we were left with a satisfying feeling of knowing that our encounter had been a success. Though we hadn’t met in person, for all intents and purposes, we were able to derive most of the benefits of an in-person meeting, all from the comfort of our own home and without the additional expense of traveling to and from Michigan. We were very satisfied the virtual meeting and wouldn’t hesitate to meet this way again… It was money well spent!

We recently hired Wayne to redesign our current living space. We were blown away by his attention to detail, and his incredible talent. He was able to look at the space, and completely transform it right before our eyes in 2 short hours. We both left the meeting with a clear picture of what our new space would look like. He listened to our desires for the space and in 2 hours made our desires a reality right before our eyes. He is truly one of a kind.

Wayne Visbeen is a genius! We first got to know him when he created the dining room for the Grand Rapids Symphony Show House in our home in 2000. His choices of lighting fixtures and painting were superb, and we still enjoy them. When we decided to remodel part of our home, my husband and I knew we had to come to an agreement on the best architect for the job. I told my husband that Wayne had done the dining room for the Show House. "Sold!" Wayne did a superb job of designing an addition to our 1908 home that is completely integrated with the original. People are hard-pressed to tell the 1908 section from the 2008-2009 section! Wayne is creative, resourceful, charming, and a joy to work with. We recommend him without reservation.

When my wife and I looked at architectural styles from a variety of magazines, blogs, and other on-line images we loved and began to save them, we came to realize that the common denominator for the vast majority of these homes was this firm in Grand Rapids, Michigan. "Who were these guys?" we thought. :) This prompted an on line search and more information about the team at Visbeen Architects. We made the trip to Grand Rapids in January 2018 and began a process of taking one of their prior projects and ultimately modifying it into a custom project for us in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Having worked with other designers and built our own primary residence, we could easily see Wayne's talent on display from the moment we sat down with him. For example, we struggled to figure out where to place a boathouse on the lot in relation to the house. With Wayne, he asked, "Why separate the house from the boathouse? Wouldn't it be cool to put the boat in the boathouse and just walk into the home from there?" Um, yes?! Eureka! Can you even do that? Why not? That's the answer! And the process just kept flowing. And Wayne kept drawing, In literally a few hours, we had a conceptual plan essentially drawn out as we sat with him. It is important to point out that we were in no hurry to get started on building. We wanted to have a clear plan in place and feel good about how we were going to use this as a second home -- which is very different than a primary residence. And when we put forward ideas and changes over the next 23 months, Wayne and Jeff (Segard) would listen patiently and explain how something could work -- or not. And folks, it is critical to work with a team that is not afraid to tell you "no, let's rethink this or that aspect [of some detail]." We truly valued that constructive push-back, which came not from arrogance or a condescending attitude, but instead from years of experience, practical knowledge of the building trades, and a passion to make each and every project one that, in the end, every client will love. Wayne is not the only talented member of the team. Jeff, who works side-by-side with Wayne, helped work with us on the construction details and assisted us in value engineering our project to make this vacation house affordable. Jason is an incredible CAD drawing specialist and works behind the scenes to create "floorplan and house elevation magic." Angela was delightful, and Holly was great in keeping the logistical details straight for us. The interior design team also needs a shout out for their greatness! You will no doubt be attracted to their finished products, but interestingly, our favorite aspect of working with Visbeen Architects was "the journey" of experiencing Wayne listen to your story and dreams, ask probing questions, and draw a nearly finished project right in front of your eyes. Amazing and rare talent at the highest level. His innovative mind and ability to sense how to integrate design with a specific family lifestyle was so intriguing to us. They deserve six (6) "stars," but since Houzz only allows for five (5), that'll have to do for now.

There are architects and there is the best-of-the-best, the Visbeen Architects team certainly falls into the later category. After meeting with Wyane, Angela, and Holly today, I feel so excited about my project. Their ability to listen to my dreams and bring those dreams to life on paper to ultimately to reality is worth the investment. For many months we spent time searching for an existing home that would suit our current and future needs as well as becoming a place for our actual “golden years”. And then it happened! Our search led us to Visbeen Architects, endless choices and exactly what we were looking for! Wayne and Angela Visbeen are a delight to be with, more like friends, than just business! We were cheerily greeted by Angela and a spirited staff, felt so at home and ready to meet with Wayne. Then, the magic and fun begins! A quick tour of their facility, meeting several staff and seeing what they do really made for a remarkable experience. One stop in particular was their beautiful interior design center. The most amazing textures, fabrics, fixtures, ideas - too much to explain, but WOW! Wayne will get to know you and everything you want, need and wish for in a home. Our project is planned for 1-2 years from now, but we felt it was important to have our ideas set in motion as we move forward. After a few hours of exchanging ideas, dreams and wishes, the most beautiful and functional home plans were in front of our eyes! One thing that stuck with me from Wayne’s introductory video was “You don’t need a big home, you want a home that lives big”! Yes, indeed! With that being said, we are still seeing size and space utilization as it should be, beautiful outer and inner design and most of all comfort! We’re hooked and you will be too! Our Visbeen “experience” was truly a memorable one. The entire team exceeds expectations of professionalism and quality in every possible way. We are so excited to break ground and start the next chapter of our project with Visbeen’s guidance throughout! We had the opportunity to meet with Visbeen Architects about our future lake home. From our arrival at the airport to our departure the Visbeen team really took care of us. When our flight was delayed, we thought our time with Wayne would be cut short but he worked with us late into the evening discussing our tastes and desires for our new home. A few months ago my wife and I bought a home with good bones but several functional problems. Our goal was to improve functionality while maintaining the home’s architectural integrity. My husband and I met with Visbeen Interiors recently to discuss a project in Birmingham, Michigan. Like many before us, we had scoured the internet researching housing projects and ideas and continued to return to Visbeen's work. We drove two and a half hours to meet with them not really knowing what to expect. Almost from the second we put our foot into their Vision Interiors office, we knew we had entered a place like no other. We were greeted with smiling faces, with an atmosphere that was pleasant and fun, and we were surrounded by a home beautifully crafted by their artists. Wayne sat down with us and started by asking us questions about our lives and about our ways of living. He started to recognize pieces of us as if he had known us for years. From these moments, he began to draw. The drawings were more than remarkable, they were phenomenal. My husband and I looked at each other and could not even believe that our vision was coming to life in such a unique and beautiful way. The experience did not end there. We continued our night well into the evening with wine and dinner learning about each other like old friends would do. We spent an evening getting to know each other. The next day, we found Wayne back at work tweaking our piece, making it better, and we were further wowed by the entire design before our eyes. We truly cannot say enough kind words to describe this incredible gift that Wayne, Angela, and the team bring to life. Your dreams become reality in the hands of Visbeen. You must experience this to know it. This experience has been an absolute gift to our family and we are so thrilled to go through this process with them.

We endlessly searched the internet for house designs, and kept coming back to designs by Visbeen. So when my husband finally said contact them I jumped at the opportunity! We read the reviews, and watched the promotional videos but still weren't sure what to expect. Needless to say our expectations were blown out of the water. It's truly amazing what Wayne can accomplish in just a few hours. We had the bones of dream house, and by the end of the 2 days couldn't have asked for more. Angela and Wayne are extremely professional, and go above and beyond to make the client happy. I have known and worked with Wayne Visbeen for nearly 20 years. Currently, I run Vision Interiors, Visbeen's affiliate Interior Design Firm. I have the unique privilege of sitting next to him to help collaborate on jobs. I love that seat, watching Wayne draw and design for clients is extraordinary. Wayne has a talent - a genuine gift, that is almost hard to describe until you experience it.. . . .and experience it I did! Recently, my husband and I took the seat across from Wayne to work on our own project. Wayne spent the afternoon with us and used the magic of his pen to turn our newly aquired "fixer" into the most perfect of dream homes. I suppose I knew he would, he always does, but even with all of my first hand experience he still far exceeded my expectations.

My wife and I were a little intimidated meeting with an architect with a reputation on designing very exclusive and expensive homes. After talking to Wayne for about ninety minutes about our desires and needs, we then had better ideas for the direction to take on the design of our retirement home. The thing that impressed us the most was the all the time Wayne took to expose us to considerations to explore that included SPACE, light, wind, winter weather, water and views. We felt as though we were being treated as one of his exclusive clients. We felt very comfortable and look forward to finalizing our plans.

We are currently living in London and making plans for our forever home back in Michigan. We'd seen ads for Visbeen Architects over the years in BLUE magazine and wondered if they might be the right fit for our project. When they designed an amazing development of houses right near our place, the work was so stunning that we contacted them to come and do an initial design meeting with us. Wayne and Jeff couldn’t have been more impressive with their design ideas and ability to read the property and our needs in a very short period of time. Right now we live in Indianapolis, but we want to move back to the Grand Rapids, Michigan area when we retire, and purchased a lot on a Lake in Rockford. I’d been a subscriber to BLUE Magazine and really liked designs by Wayne that I’d seen over the years. When we first met with Wayne, we didn’t have a floor plan in mind. But with three grown sons who would be visiting us from out of state, one already married with two children, we wanted space for everyone to gather, a very special, custom place that fits our lifestyle and family’s future needs. Without question, Wayne delivered that. He is extremely adept at surfacing your values and how you want to live, working the whole time sketching concepts as you’re talking, focusing on the functionality and livability of the design. The coordination and cooperation of Paul Fiske at Visbeen and our builder refining the construction plans, as well as Julie’s knowledge and creativity in bringing final details together really allowed for a smooth process and a very harmonious end product.

Our experience with Wayne and Angela Visbeen has been nothing short of outstanding, fun, brilliant and satisfying. My wife searched the INET for our vacation/retirement and she kept coming back to Visbeen architects. Within two hours, Wayne and Lakesha Rose who is a five-star interior designer, had our home designed. Wayne's sketches were magnificent. We had lived in Chicago for 11 years when a new job for my husband meant relocating to Grand Rapids. We learned of a new residential lot in Gaslight Village that was created from the L-shaped property a church had been. A walkable urban neighborhood was right up our alley! We appreciated the custom sized modern home that Visbeen Architects had already started planning with our builder, Joel Peterson. While our square footage was limited, Wayne really optimized space to incorporate our family’s needs; including a big island/breakfast bar like we had in Chicago, a good-sized dining room and our coffee station, which he outfitted with a wine fridge and tucked into the wall of a big opening between our kitchen and back hallway. Wayne made this area and other spaces upstairs and down feel more open and bright with natural light by placing the stairs in a back west corner of floor-to-ceiling glass. He also expanded our living space and made the outdoors great to be by working in a covered porch with Phantom Screen ® off the kitchen. Our amazing interior designer, Julie Holmes, understood my motto that a house should tell the story of the people who live there. She could anticipate what I’d like; narrowing options to make choosing effortless and she kept price point in focus, too. We couldn't be happier with our new home and the team that helped bring our vision to reality.

Sharing ideas with Wayne was an incredible experience; he'd drawn them up and say, 'you mean something like this?' We worked through each area of the home individually from kitchen and living room to exterior and the lanai; it didn't come into play for us how changing certain things inside would impact our home's exterior look-we have a ton of windows, which we didn't want to compromise. We wanted a home that was contemporary, but not modern. We have a love of rich woods and textures and wanted the house to be inspired by these and to stand the test of time. Our builder Jeff Segard introduced us to Wayne Visbeen, who is very talented at processing client ideas in his head and sketching them on paper in three dimensions right before you. He is very open; if you say no, he crumples it, tosses it on the floor and goes after it again - he designs for you. We wanted a home designed for entertaining, with wonderful flow and out-of-the-way spaces for deliveries and caterers. But our house is tailored for our family, too, with bedroom/bath suites and TV loft upstairs for our boys that they'll value just as much when they're home from college or visiting with their own families someday. The second house on Lake Michigan in 2008 had lot size restrictions and constraints, but Wayne did a marvelous job maximizing our views to water, creating a sense of privacy and working in a guest house; social areas flow together beautifully. We spent about a year designing our Lake Michigan home with the Visbeen team. We were originally drawn in by Wayne's talent and vision, as well as his ability to see our vision for what we wanted our vacation home to be. The early meetings were fun, exciting, and reassuring. The process was explained to us clearly and the expectations were set. As the process progressed, we built a wonderful relationship with Paul in addition to Wayne, and got to know Angela well. Our concerns were addressed as long we were clear and responsive as changes and updates were being made. We changed our minds several times - this does not make a designers job easy, but the Visbeen team continued to work with us until they nailed it and we were happy. This dedication to our satisfaction was important and in the end, we got the house of our dreams at a price close to our budget. We were very pleased with the creative and professional job the team at Visbeen Architects did for us at on a recent complete home renovation project in Rockford, Michigan. The attention to detail and the 3D prints allowed our builder to move very quickly. 6000 ft2 renovation in 6 months. A remarkable accomplishment.

We have been living in our home on Lake Michigan for almost ten years now -- it was designed by Wayne Visbeen and his team in 2008. We sincerely would not change a thing and often say to ourselves "Thank you, Wayne" as we appreciate anew some aspect of the design or interior detail. The house fits in very nicely in the landscape and among our neighbors' homes. People have told us it looks like it belongs here. Wayne's legendary talent for sketching ideas while you talk with him (how does he do that?) makes the space come alive so you can really envision what it would look like. He has a wonderful ability to think about view lines so that you and your guests will be able to enjoy your views to the outside to the max. We appreciate his sense of scale and symmetry in design as well as his ability to make the interior spaces warm and inviting and yet very functional and flexible, whether entertaining small or large groups. We spent a lot of time thinking about our home and researching shingle style architecture. As one example, we wanted to incorporate designs in the roof gables and Wayne designed a unique diamond pattern. The communication between Wayne and Paul Fikse and our builder was also excellent. Before we started the project, we told Wayne and our builder that, when the house was finished, our goal was that it would have been such a good experience, we'd all want to celebrate. And we did indeed have a wonderful party -- we invited Wayne and his team and all the various subcontractors and their families to see the results of their expert craftsmanship. Wayne and Angela take relationships seriously and have stayed in touch despite the time that has gone by. There truly is something distinctive about a Visbeen-designed home, no matter what your architectural style. Meeting, and ultimately, working with Wayne Visbeen, his wife Angela, and their talented and dedicated staff, has been the experience of a lifetime! We found Visbeen Architects as we began our search process for ideas on a new lakefront home. We noticed that we were both repeatedly "pinning" Visbeen projects. Over and over and over again. After a bit of research, we found that Visbeen Architects had their home base in Michigan- as did we! We traveled to Grand Rapids for an initial consultation. Wayne asked great, thought provoking questions on how we live and how we WANT to live. All the while, he was sketching OUR house! He is a great listener, with an excellent memory and incorporated our dreams and wishes into the innovative and thoughtful design for OUR home. Two hours later and the home was actually on paper! The experience with Visbeen (Wayne, Angela and staff), was superb. I use the word experience for many reasons. From the moment we arrived till we left, there was something to experience. The hospitality, the beautifully decorated work and living space, the tasty dinner with Jeff, and of course the actual sit down with Wayne; all was more than we imagined. I know southern hospitality and what we received while visiting was hospitality at its best. My husband, Brent and I have a history with building homes (hundreds for others and several of our own). Brent is a contractor so we have dealt with architects, house plans, the whole bit. We have built The Georgetown, one of Visbeen's house plans. We love the house, the layout, the look but we found it to be a little too big for us. We looked at hundreds of house plans but always come back to a Visbeen creation. After some research we learned that we could actually sit down and spend time with Wayne to get our perfect home. We came in with specific wants and Wayne created those into a house. Wayne has a gift of drawing, but even beyond that he listens to what you want and gathers information throughout your conversations and is able to draw/create your exact ideas better than imagined. I was in awe of his abilities. The atmosphere of the work place was very relational, lots of communication that happens to make your dreams come to life. I can't explain how wonderful this experience was. After visiting there is no doubt in our mind that we made the right decision to invest in our future home with Visbeen. Several years ago we decided to build a new home and we weren't sure how to go about it so we started looking at house plans on the web. There are literally 1000's! We had a specific style we were after and every time we found that look we would notice it was the same architect. We continued our search for several months and every time we found a clever idea, something we hadn't seen before or an idea we hadn't though of, it was always this same architect. The only problem was, this architect was 2200 miles away. However, we decided his work was so good we had to talk to him so one day we called him. The conversation was very easy. He was direct and to the point and every thing we discussed with him seemed as if he could complete our sentences. He suggested that we come to his office and that he would be able to show us everything we were looking for in one place. We decided, why not? To us it was worth it to get exactly what we were looking for from somebody who seemed to understand exactly what we wanted. Within two months we had set up a meeting with Wayne Visbeen and flew to his office. We were a little nervous and apprehensive about making this long trip to an architect who was out of our area especially since everyone told us we could easily hire a great architect locally. Our nervous apprehension quickly turned to "we definitely made the right decision" from the time we walked in to his office and were warmly greeted by his office staff, including his wife Angela and Wayne himself. As we sat at his table and he started drawing our thoughts, everything we discussed with him was drawn to perfection in front of us as we watched. Wayne and his staff quickly turned all of his drawings into a house design and floor plan that we loved. We were amazed at how quickly this happened. Within 2 days we were leaving their office with our house design and floor plans in hand. Within the next few months, working by phone and email, they completed our plans to perfection and sent them to us. When we turned these plans over to our builder, he was pleased with how detailed and well thought out they were, requiring very little modification. We are in the process of getting our permits approved and haven't broken ground yet however, Visbeen Architects have let us know that they will be involved with us all the way through the construction with any help or questions that need to be answered and we have no doubt they will be there for us. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience with Visbeen and would highly recommend them to anyone regardless of where you live. We are extremely happy we decided to use Visbeen and Associates. We have purchased a lot and are planning on building a home on what will be close to a shoestring budget, but we are determined. We saw a house in the same town and there it was on the internet while we were looking for plans, and it was designed by Visbeen Architects, so we thought we'd ask about their plans. We set up a consultation, and the Visbeens could not have been kinder or more gracious in welcoming us into their beautiful new space, explaining the process, giving us several different options, addressing very specific concerns and wish-lists, and going over costs. Wayne spent an enormous amount of his valuable time with us, for which we could not be more grateful. We have lots of time before we are ready to build, but no matter what we decide, it cannot change our review. We started working with Wayne and his team last spring. After one 2 hour session he had a great understanding of what we wanted, eagerly accepted the challenge to stay within our budget and helped us create the cottage of our dreams. Simple yet classic and full of character. He made the most of the square footage we could afford and included everything on our wish list. We especially loved our time with Wayne as he drew each room on paper in front of us, listening to our wants while incorporating his artistic touch on things. Visbeen works with clients and projects of all price ranges and gives the same dedication and attention to a 2000 sq foot cottage as they would a 10,000 sq foot mansion. After tweaking a few things from the original plan with Paul and Wayne, by early fall we thought we had a great plan to give our builder. We had no idea how great. Construction started late September and by early December the cottage was roofed and shingled with windows installed. The outside was complete and everything was ready for our crew to work through the winter on the inside. Our builder commented several times on what a great plan Visbeen helped us create and how their initial work made the building process flow so smoothly. Their attention to small details left no questions or guesswork. They happily included our designer in all conversations and offered her access to their design contacts. My husband and I highly recommend their team and look forward to continued conversation with them as we move forward toward project completion.

Having bought a dilapidated property in a beautiful position on the Maine coast, I eventually decided to demolish it and build a new house. I interviewed 12 architects and eventually chose Visbeen. I loved Wayne's energy and vision. He has great ideas and an ability to work in a number of different idioms. He understands what it is to work with a budget, and to listens to what you want as client, while being able to develop and expand on those wishes. While this is definitely Wayne's practice, but he has a great team around him on interior design and construction. They can take you through the whole process to move in. I have visited them in Grand Rapids and Chicago and they have a very professional operation. I have found the whole team responsive and easy to work with. They also helped me choose a general contractor have also worked seamlessly with them since. I have built three houses from scratch and renovated many more. I am half way through construction. We are on time and on budget. This is the best experience I have had.

My wife and I have been dreaming about designing and building our retirement home in Michigan for several years. We have spent summers at our existing "cottage" for almost 30 years and are now ready to make it our full time residence. We have been involved with a few large remodeling projects in the past and have found them quite painful. I was hoping to do it differently this time, but was still struggling with the whole process of planning a demolition, designing the perfect space on a small narrow lot and getting the whole project off the ground. We really liked a particular small house on the lake and somehow by accident heard that Wayne Visbeen was the Architect. This led me to their website, and he exactly described the experience I was going through. So I was very intrigued with the process he and his group used, as it seemed so much different than anything I had experienced before. We set up an appointment to meet with him in Grand Rapids. Today we spent about 2 and 1/2 hours with Wayne and Jeff. The process was absolutely amazing, and exactly what we were hoping it would be. With unbelievable enthusiasm for our relatively small project, we accomplished more in that small amount of time, than we had in the past 6 months. In retrospect I don't think we ever gave him our wish list. All we had was a survey of the lot, the existing house location and the lines where we could legally build. We just talked and had pleasant conversation, and the whole time he was sketching. Two and a half hours later we were well on our way to designing the house we have been dreaming about. We have preliminary sketches of the front and rear elevations, a floor plan, and a 3D sketch of the kitchen, dining room and living area. It all came to life before our eyes in what seemed to be a very fun, exciting and effortless process. So we hired Visbeen Architects on the spot to guide us along the way to building our new home. We look forward to the rest of the planning and design process, and ultimately to a new home on the lake. We found the process to be exactly as he described it on the web site, only it is better to experience it yourself in real time. Very impressive! Actually AMAZING! We are very excited.

Wayne Visbeen spent an afternoon at our home sketching remolding ideas.. Wayne's experience and talent were on full display for over two hours. His probing questions, active listening, brainstorming, and then bringing multitudes of concepts to life though clarifying sketches made for an incredible afternoon. I know many of Wayne's concepts will become permanent during our remodel. He also opened up our thought process to a new array of possibilities. Finally, Wayne's personality and humor made the whole process a joy and when we look at our finished home we will fondly remember the afternoon spent with Visbeen.

OK, I don't normally do reviews, however I feel compelled to share my experience with Visbeen Architects with you guys. Read on to get the real story..... First, my wife found a set of set of plans on eplans that Wayne had drawn. She was in love with the house and contacted Visbeen and talked to Holly to see about viewing the Georgetown plan that had been built in Palmetto Bluff but that house had been sold. She told my wife that another design "the Eleanor" which was similar to the Georgetown was able to be viewed. Our Family traveled to South Carolina to view the Eleanor and that got us on fire! We then contacted Visbeen and talked to Angela to schedule a Meeting and Greet and discuss a custom version of the Georgetown plan. we drove 12 hours to Grand Rapids to talk about our dream home. We arrived at 8am and Wayne Visbeen met us at the door and took us back to get started. That's when the magic began. I have been interacting with Architects and Engineers for 25 years as a Contractor performing work for the NCDOT, and have never been impressed like I was with Wayne. He is at the top of his career (In my opinion), and can sketch out an idea faster than you can think it. Needless to say, we hired him as our guy. The staff there was polite, accommodating and on "Q". Did I mention that we drug our 18,16, and 14 year old kids along? Our kids got involved too and 6 hours later, our Dream Home was well under way. You heard right....6 hours They worked Sketching, brainstorming, and printing CAD drawings (preliminary drawings) for our project. we took a 1.5 hours break in-between meetings and asked a few locals about Visbeen, and everyone replied by saying, and I quote "Wayne and his team are brilliant and know what they are doing". We are on on the way back home to North Carolina now and stopped to eat a bite, so I thought I'd take a moment to share my experience. After reading over my review I figure you might think I got paid to write this?!? If you have a project large or small I sincerely encourage you to sit down with them to discuss.....end game is you'll have your architect and a team that will make you feel confident you are on your way to a successful project. Today, after years of dreaming about our retirement home, we met with Wayne Visbeen and his wonderful staff. More than an architect, Wayne is a mind reader-a magician; perceptive and conscientious of aesthetic design, good building practices, budgetary and square footage concerns. As we talked, Wayne drew and we occasionally pulled out a few pictures we had brought along (because we were concerned that we could not put into words what we saw in our mind's eye). In hind site, I am not sure the pictures were all that necessary, but I was still glad that I took them along, just in case.... At the same time we had lots of back and forth dialog, yet somehow staying on track. As his pen flew over the paper, our dreams were translated into our home, more perfect than we could have imagined-even after our years of thought, discussions, internet searches, sketching and drawing. In two hours Wayne brought it all together right before our eyes. Not only the interior, but also the exterior. Now, as he emphasized, this was just the beginning. So, if this is the start, how thrilled will we be with the finished product? Off the charts, I am sure, there are no doubts. Also, what we thought was impossible-Wayne, with much kindness and humor, brought us to common ground, listening to our individual and mutual input, with great insight and wisdom. We both left knowing that our wants, needs and concerns were heard and respected. The time we spent today was truly one of the highlights of my life and we left with the confidence that we are in good hands with Wayne and his competent staff. We are beyond grateful!

Wayne Visbeen is as good as architects get. He designed our family lake home in northern Indiana on Dallas Lake, and we could not be happier. We had a large piece of wooded land that required a lot of careful thinking about the siting, size, and design of the home and landscaping. From Wayne's initial sketches--done live in front of me with a black pen and remarkable creativity and speed--to his final construction prints, he and his team were pros and a delight to work with. If you're building a new house on a lake and looking for a gold-plated architect, you cannot do better than Wayne.
