This new construction project in the Hill Country just South of Austin is clean, crisp and transitional. Project highlights include Hickory Chair custom furniture, a faux shagreen oval coffee table, gray linen swivel chairs, a Tibetan lamb lucite bench. The dining area features a playful, foil wallpaper with bicycle illustrations.

Signature Design Interiors enjoyed transforming this family’s traditional basement into a modern family space for watching sports and movies that could also double as the perfect setting for entertaining friends and guests. Multiple comfortable seating areas were needed and a complete update to all the finishes, from top to bottom, was required. A classy color palette of platinum, champagne, and smoky gray ties all of the spaces together, while geometric shapes and patterns add pops of interest. Every surface was touched, from the flooring to the walls and ceilings and all new furnishings were added. One of the most traditional architectural features in the existing space was the red brick fireplace, accent wall and arches. We painted those white and gave it a distressed finish. Berber carpeting was replaced with an engineered wood flooring with a weathered texture, which is easy to maintain and clean. In the television viewing area, a microfiber sectional is accented with a series of hexagonal tables that have been grouped together to form a multi-surface coffee table with depth, creating an unexpected focal point to the room. A rich leather accent chair and luxe area rug with a modern floral pattern ties in the overall color scheme. New geometric patterned window treatments provide the perfect frame for the wall mounted flat screen television. Oval table lamps in a brushed silver finish add not only light, but also tons of style. Just behind the sofa, there is a custom designed console table with built-in electrical and USB outlets that is paired with leather stools for additional seating when needed. Floor outlets were installed under the sectional in order to get power to the console table. How’s that for charging convenience? Behind the TV area and beside the bar is a small sitting area. It had an existing metal pendant light, which served as a source of design inspiration to build upon. Here, we added a table for games with leather chairs that compliment those at the console table. The family’s sports memorabilia is featured on the walls and the floor is punctuated with a fantastic area rug that brings in our color theme and a dramatic geometric pattern. We are so pleased with the results and wish our clients many years of cheering on their favorite sports teams, watching movies, and hosting great parties in their new modern basement!

An over scaled family room with dark original shadow box paneling, large Carthage stone fireplace, and leaded windows, required a design esthetic that paid homage to the history of the home, yet created a space for entertaining large groups, while at the same time feeling warm and comfortable, and would also allow the homeowners to take Sunday naps in the often unused room. With the entry to the home also included in the overall dimensions, creating definition without walls was the challenge. Using an antique table that was purchased by the client many years ago as an entry table was the perfect answer. We took the Italian chandelier from the dining room, had it refinished to look old, and re-hung it as the entry fixture. An antique, nearly 18’ foot rug was found, and was the anchor to the room. Over scaled sofa’s, large cocktail truck, antique console tables, new “shiny” lamps, modern tables, and plush pillows all add to the warmth of this space. The room was also painted a warm gray/green to pull all the warm colors and textures together. The Nelson Cigar Pendant Light in Entry of Palo Alto home reconstruction and addition gives a mid-century feel to what was originally a ranch home. Beyond the entry with a skylight is the great room with a vaulted ceiling which opens to the backyard.

Our poster project for The Three P's, this small midcentury home south of campus has great bones but lacked vibrancy - a je ne sais quoi that the clients were searching to savoir once and for all. SYI worked with them to nail down a design direction and furniture plan, and they decided to invest in the big-impact items first: built-ins and lighting and a fresh paint job that included a beautiful deep blue-green line around the windows. The vintage rug was an Etsy score at an awesome price, but only after the client spent months scouring options and sources online that matched the vision and dimensions of the plan. A good year later, the West Elm sofa went on sale, so the client took advantage; some time after that, they painted the kitchen, created the drop zone / bench area, and rounded out the room with occasional tables and accessories. This photo: Interior designer Claire Ownby, who crafted furniture for the great room's living area, took her cues for the palette from the architecture. The sofa's Roma fabric mimics the Cantera Negra stone columns, chairs sport a Pindler granite hue, and the Innovations Rodeo faux leather on the coffee table resembles the floor tiles. Nearby, Shakuff's Tube chandelier hangs over a dining table surrounded by chairs in a charcoal Pindler fabric. Positioned near the base of iconic Camelback Mountain, “Outside In” is a modernist home celebrating the love of outdoor living Arizonans crave. The design inspiration was honoring early territorial architecture while applying modernist design principles. Dressed with undulating negra cantera stone, the massing elements of “Outside In” bring an artistic stature to the project’s design hierarchy. This home boasts a first (never seen before feature) — a re-entrant pocketing door which unveils virtually the entire home’s living space to the exterior pool and view terrace. A timeless chocolate and white palette makes this home both elegant and refined. Oriented south, the spectacular interior natural light illuminates what promises to become another timeless piece of architecture for the Paradise Valley landscape.
