Dark stone, custom cherry cabinetry, misty forest wallpaper, and a luxurious soaker tub mix together to create this spectacular primary bathroom. These returning clients came to us with a vision to transform their builder-grade bathroom into a showpiece, inspired in part by the Japanese garden and forest surrounding their home. Our designer, Anna, incorporated several accessibility-friendly features into the bathroom design; a zero-clearance shower entrance, a tiled shower bench, stylish grab bars, and a wide ledge for transitioning into the soaking tub. Our master cabinet maker and finish carpenters collaborated to create the handmade tapered legs of the cherry cabinets, a custom mirror frame, and new wood trim.

Primary bathroom of a new construction home in the Berkeley Hills, CA. A freestanding white oval soaking tub is positioned beneath a steel-framed picture window with unobstructed mature forest views. Full-height black4 tile accent wall behind the tub creates a dramatic textural contrast with the white soaking tub and bright window beyond. Floating oak vanity with dual matte black rectangular vessel sinks, matte black gooseneck faucets, and a full-width backlit mirror with integrated lighting rail. Birch plywood ceiling panels carry the material palette from the bedroom into the bathroom. Frameless glass shower enclosure with matte black hardware visible to the right. Ulrich Designer: Tom Santarsiero Photography by Peter Rymwid This is a master bath with subtle sophistication and understated elegance. The cabinets were custom designed by Tom, with straight, simple lines, and custom built by Draper DBS of walnut, with a deep, rich brown finish. The richness of the dark cabinetry juxtaposed with the elegance of the white carrara marble on the countertop, wall and floors contributes to the room's sophistication. Ample storage is found in the large vanity and an armoire style cabinet, designed to mimic a free-standing furniture piece, that is positioned behind the door. Architectural beams placed across the vaulted ceiling bring a sense of scale to the room and invite natural light in through the skylight.

This traditional white bathroom beautifully incorporates white subway tile and marble accents. The black and white marble floor compliments the black tiles used to frame the decorative marble shower accent tiles and mirror. Completed with chrome fixtures, this black and white bathroom is undoubtedly elegant. Black and white carry throughout this crisp powder room: black and white marble floor tiles, black and white graphic wallpaper, and a black and white double wall sconce. Elegant white bathroom fixtures, including the pedestal sink, and a long narrow silver framed rectangular mirror bring additional brightness to this small powder room. WKD’s experience in historic preservation and antique curation restored this gentleman’s farm into a casual, comfortable, livable home for the next chapter in this couple’s lives. The project included a new family entrance and mud room, new powder room, and opening up some of the rooms for better circulation. While WKD curated the client’s existing collection of art and antiques, refurbishing where necessary, new furnishings were also added to give the home a new lease on life. The clients love to travel and what better way to reflect their personality then to instal a custom printed black and grey map of the world on all 4 walls of their powder bathroom. The black walls are made glamorous by installing an ornate gold frame mirror with two sconces on either side. The rustic barnboard countertop was custom made and placed under a black glass square vessel sink and tall gold modern faucet.

Master ensuite features a black vanity with modern brushed gold pulls, white quartz counter top, brushed gold faucets, aged gold brass wall sconces, black framed rectangular mirrors against a ceramic tile wood design wall.
