This sitting room off of the kitchen became the main hangout space for family, friends and more for our clients located in Birmingham, MI. Completed in September of 2023, the space needed to provide as much seating and flexibility as possible for people to gather. We also needed to maintain access to the adjacent patio. Previously used as a breakfast nook, this small sunroom contained oversized and bulky furniture along its walls. To reinvent this space, we added a custom sofa, two lounge chairs, and two ottomans that could be re-arranged for various uses. During the summer months, when circulation is needed at the patio doorway, the accent chairs fit perfectly along the opposite wall and smaller, moveable ottomans are in place at the doorwall. When not in use, the ottomans tuck away in our custom designed coffee table and keep this space flexible and functional. The individually placed chairs provided symmetry and elegance along either side of the sofa. Our large central cocktail table acts as an additional place to set out food or dine over. Layered lighting provides options for daytime use as well as evening reading. And finally, the custom area rug anchors and defines the space and holds together this elevated and flexible sunroom. The result is both beautiful and functional for year round use!

Bold colors and geometric patterns is what it's all about in this space as the client wanted a boutique hotel vibe with all the frills . A condo unit at the Seaholm towers in Austin is transformed from a plain modern-industrial aesthetic to a daring navy and magenta pad.

Ann Kenkel Interiors Gwin Hunt Photography Coastal Estate in St. Michael's Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. House was designed after the original 1770's house on the property. Home was designed to be a formal house but was now being used as a weekend retreat. Ann Kenkel had to decorate the house in a manner which was coastal enough so owner's felt like they were on vacation yet formal enough for the style of the house. AK found the house filled with wallpaper from the 1980's. Wallpaper from every room was removed and all trim had to be painted a neutral color. The formal dining room only had one entry. AK opened up a second entry into the dining room which provided a view of the Chesapeake Bay. I was honored to work with these homeowners again, now to fully furnish this new magnificent architectural marvel made especially for them by Lake Flato Architects. Creating custom furnishings for this entire home is a project that spanned over a year in careful planning, designing and sourcing while the home was being built and then installing soon thereafter. I embarked on this design challenge with three clear goals in mind. First, create a complete furnished environment that complimented not competed with the architecture. Second, elevate the client’s quality of life by providing beautiful, finely-made, comfortable, easy-care furnishings. Third, provide a visually stunning aesthetic that is minimalist, well-edited, natural, luxurious and certainly one of kind. Ultimately, I feel we succeeded in creating a visual symphony accompaniment to the architecture of this room, enhancing the warmth and livability of the space while keeping high design as the principal focus. The centerpiece of this modern sectional is the collection of aged bronze and wood faceted cocktail tables to create a sculptural dynamic focal point to this otherwise very linear space. From this room there is a view of the solar panels installed on a glass ceiling at the breezeway. Also there is a 1 ton sliding wood door that shades this wall of windows when needed for privacy and shade.
