This comfortable house features a high living room with a mezzanine, while the kitchen and dining area are separated from the living space by a functional furniture wall.
Contemporary living room designed as part of a modern house interior project in Poland, combining warm natural wood, soft beige upholstery, dark accents and carefully selected architectural details. Generous glazing brings greenery and daylight into the interior, while the high ceiling and elevated opening visible above the living zone emphasize the spacious character of the Komfoo house.
The living area is centred around a large modular sectional sofa in a warm cream-beige fabric, composed of generously padded seats and broad chaise elements. Its soft, rounded profile creates a relaxed and comfortable seating arrangement, while several large cushions add to the informal character of the lounge. A textured light throw lies across the chaise, introducing another layer of softness and reinforcing the tactile quality of the neutral interior.
Two overlapping round coffee tables form the centre of the seating arrangement, both finished in a deep black tone with vertically ribbed cylindrical bases. Their dark colour creates a strong contrast against the pale sofa and textured rug, while the different diameters give the composition a more dynamic, layered appearance. A small stack of books provides a discreet everyday detail on the smaller table.
One of the strongest elements of this living room is the large feature wall finished with irregular natural timber panels. The individual pieces vary subtly in shape and orientation, creating a three-dimensional, textured surface that extends across the entire media wall. Set against this warm wood background, the large flat-screen television becomes a clearly defined focal point. Rather than being mounted directly to the wall, it stands on a slim black floor-supported structure, giving the media zone a lighter and more contemporary appearance.
Natural timber flooring continues throughout the room, complementing the warm tones of the feature wall while contrasting with the pale woven rug beneath the seating area. The rug introduces a pronounced looped texture and visually gathers the sofa and coffee tables into one coherent lounge zone. Above, a large white cylindrical pendant suspended from a curved floor-to-ceiling arc provides a sculptural lighting element and adds a distinctive vertical accent to the otherwise restrained composition.
Behind the seating area, a tall opening reveals the greenery outside and allows the garden to become part of the interior setting. The combination of the high living room, textured timber media wall, generous modular sofa, sculptural lighting and carefully balanced neutral palette gives the Komfoo interior a warm and sophisticated character. This approach reflects the work of STUDIO KONDE, an interior architect in Poznań developing contemporary, comfortable interiors as part of the Modelowedomy collection.

ECHT-ARCHITECTSSweeping views of Downtown Sarasota across the Bay from Bird Key create a dramatic backdrop for this Neo-Modern renovation.
Situated at the corner of a waterfront street, the original home had strong bones and great sight-lines. The owner sought to re-imagine the interiors in a more contemporary style, complementing the owner's eclectic art collection. Echt-Architects worked with the owner closely to realize this collaborative design, with the help of Interior Designer Marie Bowman, and General Contractor Nathan Cross.
The spaces are opened inward toward each other, and out toward the dramatic views. Large format concrete-look porcelain tiles blend them together. A tall walnut-stained front door welcomes guests into the Living Room, with a broad custom concrete fireplace surround with tapering edges, and a soaring walnut paneled over-mantle and ceiling detail.
A broad threshold overlooks the Dining area with Family Room beyond. A large, open Kitchen sits at center stage, with walnut and lacquer finishes. An elegant stair with a center stringer and wood block treads brings you upstairs to the guest suites.
Beside the Family Room, a custom concrete bartop with waterfall and tapering details provides ample space for relaxation and play.

Mark Lewis Art ™This is a collection of John Wayne art print installations by artist Mark Lewis. Lewis is a living descendant of Denton Cy Young for which the "Cy" Young pitching award in Major League baseball was created. When one views the work of Mark Lewis, it isn’t “viewing art” like every art critic has dryly gone about doing for years. His work is immersive and passionate. It draws you in and his palette’s diversity gives way for a broad demographic reach. Bold strokes and unexpected color choices epitomize his portrait collection of actors, actresses, and pop culture icons from the 1920s through today.
Cabinet-S-TopIn this primary bathroom, the vanity features Medallion Gold Series cabinetry in Maple with the Dana Pointe flat-panel door style, finished in Gale paint. It is topped with a Cambria Everleigh polished countertop in the Ridgeline edge profile. Two beveled mirrors hang above the vanity.
The bathroom floor is tiled with Style 12x24 Pure field tile. Passion 3x8 Azul field tile is used as an accent on the bathtub wall. The shower surround is custom cultured marble in 3/8” White Alabaster, installed on the walls, ceiling, and shower base. A “Grandaddy Caddy” footrest niche includes an accent strip of Passion 3x8 Azul tile. The shower is enclosed with a Euro bypass semi-frameless door in a brushed nickel finish.
Lighting includes a Broad Ultra Pro fixture and two Moen Voss three-bulb vanity lights, all in brushed nickel. The Moen Voss collection in brushed nickel is also used throughout the space, including two widespread faucets, toilet paper holder, two 24" towel bars, showerhead, volume controls, temperature control, robe hook, two towel rings, toilet tank lever, and a tub filler faucet.
Additional features include two Kohler Caxton white rectangular sinks, one TOTO Entrada two-piece toilet, a Barclay Lorenzo 60" acrylic tub with brushed nickel overflow, and a Level handshower with slide bar.

With sweeping views of the Willamette river and Mt. Hood, this Atwater Place condo was designed with a balance of minimalism and livability in mind. A complete kitchen remodel brought a dark interior kitchen to the light and a full furnishings package welcomed Los Angeles transplants home to their new modern and bright residence. Our clients, a retired camera operator for both feature films and television and a producer/production manager on numerous television series including Weeds and The Middle, relocated from their traditionally-styled LA bungalow to Portland in the Summer of 2014. The couple sought a design departure from their long-term California residence and a fresh start for their new life in the South Waterfront.
With only two pieces of sentimental furniture and a handful of artwork included in the plan, we set out to create a comfortable and clean-lined furnishings package complimenting the broad southeast views. Organically shaped upholstery pieces juxtaposed with angular steel and wood tables create a soft balance in the open floor plan. Several custom pieces, including a dining table designed by our studio and a custom hand-blown glass chandelier crafted by Scott Schiesel with Lightlite compliment timeless pieces from Knoll, Herman Miller, and B&B Italia.
The kitchen is designed to reflect light and create brilliance in a space that is otherwise naturally dark. A material balance of stainless steel, back painted glass, quartz composite, lacquer, and mirror all play their part in creating a vibrant cooking environment. We collectively decided to forgo the traditional island pendant for a linear commercial fixture that provides tremendous light to the prep surface and creates an unexpected architectural element. The mirrored prep island creates the illusion of open space while concealing casework and wine storage on the working side of the kitchen.
It is worth noting that this project was designed and installed almost entirely while our clients were still living in LA and wrapping up professional obligations and selling their home. This afforded us the tremendous opportunity to send our clients to showrooms not available in Portland to view key pieces before final specification. Textiles and finish samples were approved via mail and communication took place over e-mail, telephone, and an occasional office visit. This unique process lead to a successful result and a beautifully balanced living environment.
SGDI - Sarah Gallop Design Inc.The objective was to create a warm neutral space to later customize to a specific colour palate/preference of the end user for this new construction home being built to sell. A high-end contemporary feel was requested to attract buyers in the area. An impressive kitchen that exuded high class and made an impact on guests as they entered the home, without being overbearing. The space offers an appealing open floorplan conducive to entertaining with indoor-outdoor flow.
Due to the spec nature of this house, the home had to remain appealing to the builder, while keeping a broad audience of potential buyers in mind. The challenge lay in creating a unique look, with visually interesting materials and finishes, while not being so unique that potential owners couldn’t envision making it their own. The focus on key elements elevates the look, while other features blend and offer support to these striking components. As the home was built for sale, profitability was important; materials were sourced at best value, while retaining high-end appeal. Adaptations to the home’s original design plan improve flow and usability within the kitchen-greatroom. The client desired a rich dark finish. The chosen colours tie the kitchen to the rest of the home (creating unity as combination, colours and materials, is repeated throughout).
