Design Dilemma: Our clients needed a place to store their beautiful bass and their extensive collection of books and records. Solution - We transformed this unused corner in the great room into a beautiful and functional storage space. Using a subtle instrument rack so the client could easily remove the bass to play, we were able to showcase the bass as a work of art and make it a focal point in the space. This scullery kitchen is located near the garage entrance to the home and the utility room. It is one of two kitchens in the home. The more formal entertaining kitchen is open to the formal living area. This kitchen provides an area for the bulk of the cooking and dish washing. It can also serve as a staging area for caterers when needed. This project was featured in Midwest Home magazine as the winner of ASID Life in Color. The addition of a kitchen with custom shaker-style cabinetry and a large shiplap island is perfect for entertaining and hosting events for family and friends. Quartz counters that mimic the look of marble were chosen for their durability and ease of maintenance. Open shelving with brass sconces above the sink create a focal point for the large open space. Putting a modern spin on the traditional nautical/coastal theme was a goal. We took the quintessential palette of navy and white and added pops of green, stylish patterns, and unexpected artwork to create a fresh bright space. Grasscloth on the back of the built in bookshelves and console table along with rattan and the bentwood side table add warm texture. Finishes and furnishings were selected with a practicality to fit their lifestyle and the connection to the outdoors. A large sectional along with the custom cocktail table in the living room area provide ample room for game night or a quiet evening watching movies with the kids. The sunken den, off of the foyer, receives abundant light from a bank of windows. This portion of the home was added on in 1968 after the original owners requested more space to accommodate their growing family. Bobbie found the 1950's sofa second-hand for $10, and had it reupholstered. She chose Crypton fabric as a means to save the sofa from the cats' claws, which means that not only will the style remain timeless, but the sofa itself will always look like new. There are so many details in this kitchen it's hard to decide where to look. Each part of it is so carefully thought out, with no detail left to spare. Our clients eclectic taste and her deep trust in us, made this remodel not only top notch, but easy and fun! We used solid walnut cabinets and open shelves to bring warmth to the space and mixing patterns, but being consistent in color and tone allowed us to incorporate a lot of style into one space.
