The entrance to this cape style home has a fenced Perennial Cottage Garden that includes, Boxwood, Japanese Holly, Coreopsis, Catmint, Gaura, and vinca. The bluestone pathway leads from cobble edge peastone driveway to the buildings entry. Nikko Blue Hydrangea border the front lawn. The home has cedar shake shingles which are traditionally used on Cape Cod because they withstand harsh coastal environments.

“Dawns Light” is a contemporary Shingle Style design that incorporates symbolism appropriate to both a woodland setting and a nautical setting and it received the 2017 PRISM AWARD (SILVER). PSD designed, built, landscaped and decorated the 2016 Boston Magazine Design Home in a neighborhood called Dawn’s Light at The Pinehills in Plymouth, MA overlooking the Woodlands and outer Cape Cod Bay. An existing Cape built in the 1980s was transformed through the addition of a wraparound front porch with robust but traditional columns, expanded second floor dormers, a new deck and screened-in porch facing the backyard, an expanded and open kitchen/breakfast/family room, a new mud room/laundry room/powder room suite, and a new bedroom suite in what had previously been attic space. The underlying Cape form still remains but is now expanded to have character, scale and presence befitting its rural seaside neighborhood of mostly large and elegant homes. A prominent feature is the built-in window seat with Serena and Lilly pillows, which offers a sunny and comfortable spot to relax and read. The window seat is framed by built-in bookshelves, providing both a classic aesthetic and practical storage for books and decorative items. Warm, natural light floods the area through the large windows, enhancing the serene and open feel of the space.
