This 1920’s home was transformed from small compartmentalized rooms to an open concept flooded with light. A peninsula breakfast bar with under counter cabinets and a sliding drawer pantry under the staircase nook helped to capture and use every available space in these close quarters. A custom built half height pocket door with windows was used to create the doggy room, and hard wearing vinyl plank flooring throughout the main floor and tiled kitchen/mud room was perfect to handle the heavy duty traffic the family pooches created. Traditional style white shaker cabinets, Ceasarstone Atlantic Salt counters and a cast iron dual sink help maintain the charm of the era.

Capturing the woodland views was number one priority in this cozy cabin while selection of durable materials followed. The reclaimed barn wood floors finished in Odie's Oil Dark stand up to traffic and flexible seating options at the table allow up to 10 with bar seating allowing another 4. The cabin is both a family vacation home and a vacation rental through www.staythehockinghills.com The small footprint of 934sf explodes over four stories offering over 1700sf of interior living space and three covered decks. There are two owner's suites, two bunk rooms, and alcove bed in the library, as well as two media rooms, and three bathrooms, sleeping up to eight adults and twelve guests total.

This NE Minneapolis whole-level remodel started with the existing kitchen/dining area being cramped and a rear sunken entrance to the home that did not fit the family’s everyday needs. The homeowners also wanted an open floor plan with plenty of counter space, base cabinetry, natural light, and generous walking spaces for traffic flow for a busy family of 5. A mudroom was also key to allow for a daily drop spot for coats, shoes, and sports equipment. The sunken area in the kitchen was framed in to be level with the rest of the floor, and three walls were removed to create a flexible space for their current and future needs. Natural light drove the cabinet design and resulted in primarily base cabinets instead of a standard upper cabinet/base cabinet layout. Deep drawers, accessories, and tall storage replaced what would be wall cabinets to allow for the empty wall space to capture as much natural light as we could. The double sliding door and large window were important factors in maximizing light. One of the challenges of this large open space is the traffic lane to the terrace, which cuts right through the living area, which also has the only wall that can accommodate a flat-screen TV. Thoughtful furniture placement divides up the space, so that you can easily move from one area to another. Each piece of custom artwork, all different in style, not only works well together but also directs your eyes from one spot to the next, as do the pops of colour in this neutral colour palette. Wallpaper adds that final touch. This space perfectly captures a lifetime of adventure and even includes one piece of artwork from my client's art collection that they courageously parted when they decided to embrace a completely new look.
