Great shot of a recent project reveals this exceptional space with a pair of custom swivels that can face bed, as well as the views. A classic midcentury floor lamp adds interest but doesn't block the views. Functional walnut nightstands float on nickel "X" bases and keep a low profile to allow the lighting and rug to be front and center of the design. On the left, an original MasterCraft burl wood and brass credenza adds a polished contrast to the new earthy concrete clad fireplace wall. The Sonoma Farmhaus project was designed for a cycling enthusiast with a globally demanding professional career, who wanted to create a place that could serve as both a retreat of solitude and a hub for gathering with friends and family. Located within the town of Graton, California, the site was chosen not only to be close to a small town and its community, but also to be within cycling distance to the picturesque, coastal Sonoma County landscape. Taking the traditional forms of farmhouse, and their notions of sustenance and community, as inspiration, the project comprises an assemblage of two forms - a Main House and a Guest House with Bike Barn - joined in the middle by a central outdoor gathering space anchored by a fireplace. The vision was to create something consciously restrained and one with the ground on which it stands. Simplicity, clear detailing, and an innate understanding of how things go together were all central themes behind the design. Solid walls of rammed earth blocks, fabricated from soils excavated from the site, bookend each of the structures. According to the owner, the use of simple, yet rich materials and textures...“provides a humanness I’ve not known or felt in any living venue I’ve stayed, Farmhaus is an icon of sustenance for me".

With tech careers to keep first-time home buyers busy Regan Baker Design Inc. was hired to update a standard two-bedroom loft into a warm and unique space with storage for days. The kitchen boasts a nine-foot aluminum rolling ladder to access those hard-to-reach places, and a farm sink is paired with a herringbone backsplash for a nice spin on the standard white kitchen. In the living room RBD warmed up the space with 17 foot dip-dyed draperies, running floor to ceiling. A recent project that I was privileged and proud to be a part of was the renovation for the new Gennaro’s La Cucina Italian Restaurant in New Braunfels which I started in January and completed in April. The DiMeo family own 5 star Italian restaurants in Houston, Canyon Lake and now New Braunfels. In addition to their signature pasta, fish, and veal dishes, this new restaurant features certified Naples pizza baked in a wood burning pizza oven that was shipped to the restaurant from Gennaro’s home city of Naples. Hand painted murals of scenes from his native home provide a visually pleasing backdrop to the pizza preparation area and throughout the restaurant.
