Our clients purchased this 2012 home with a small unfinished basement. The Halcyon team worked with them to create a finished basement that would better serve their family needs. This space serves as an open plan office and den or playroom with a full bathroom most of the time. It can also be a convivial guest suite when needed. In order to achieve this, the area that can be used as a bedroom is separated from the rest of the space by a set of large barn doors. These beautiful doors are kept open when the space is not being used as a guest suite.

This huge sectional from West Elm (it’s 13 feet long!!) gives plenty of seating and fills the space. It turned out that the cats liked the new sofa as much as the humans… not good. So the homeowner brilliantly layered a few Mexican blankets and a sheepskin over the cushions and arms of the sofa to protect it from the cats, and inadvertently added a level of bohemian texture and pattern to the room that is absolutely fantastic!

Combining modern with rustic was the end goal of these homeowners. Choosing gray barn siding to panel the wall, white leather sofas, and painting the ceiling rafters black give this room elegance and warmth. Using reclaimed wood to hide the two columns was the final piece of this rooms makeover.
