Inspiration for a transitional kitchen remodel in Vancouver

Our vision for this new-build condo was to create a captivating space that celebrates our client’s individuality, bringing together a diverse mix of styles, textures, and elements while maintaining a cohesive and contemporary feel. It combines the fresh, clean look of white as the predominant color with eclectic accents that add our client’s personality and character to the space. There are several “areas'' within this multi-functional space. A large sectional in a greige velvet serves as the centerpiece of the seating area, grounded by pops of blue and pink in the custom Morrocan rug. The cobalt blue theme is carried throughout, seen in the accents, art and even the ombre glass console table of the entry. A set of two blue swivel chairs by the windows, are the perfect setting for a glass of wine in the early evening as the light glistens in through the custom white sheers. The airy dining table is made of glass and carved marble and surrounded by chrome sculptural dining chairs. Above, the multi-faceted antique mirror multi-pendant chandelier drips down from the high ceiling. Our client’s antique carved wood chairs, reupholstered in a linen zebra, flank the selenite and brass bar cabinet. In the corner by the fireplace, a lucite and cowhide desk is paired with a brightly colored vintage chair. On the right of the fireplace, a leather swing, perfectly suited for reading. Lastly, the white kitchen with shimmering blue quartzite countertops brings the design in full circle.

We remodeled this small builders grade kitchen to be the homes new spacious center piece. This new Transitional kitchen has warm Fabuwood cabinetry in Fusion blanc with a contrasting island in Chestnut finish. Removing a wall and expanding the kitchen into the old formal dining room gave this client the space they needed to now have an island with plenty of room for seating and entertaining. The new tile floors in 12x24 Linden Point Bianco give the new space a clean bright look. The granite countertops in Ice White tie the flooring and cabinetry colors together; while the new backsplash tiles by Sonoma in truffle with the range feature by Walker Zanger add individuality and pop. New lighting and the clients choices of fixtures and appliances all add to the look of this awesome new kitchen.

Bespoke by Acorn created these customised, luxury wardrobes for a bespoke fitted dressing room, in collaboration with MusKox Construction. A firm of high-end property builders working in Wimbledon and Kingston, MusKox partners with master craftspeople like us to deliver bespoke residences of exceptional quality. The bespoke built-in wardrobes we handcrafted were individually tailored with a variety of separate compartments and hanging rails to fit the homeowners’ exact specifications. The wardrobe interiors have been finished in Egger oak. This reproduction wood texture has a realistic surface that resembles the appearance and feel of natural woodgrain. The chosen graphite shade works well with any colours and materials. Compared to real oak veneer, Eggar oak is highly durable, resistant to scratches, less expensive and easy to maintain. Internally, we also installed integrated full-height LED lighting on the internal sides of each unit. Externally the doors and drawer fronts and trims have all been veneered in Mundy RRX.86.002. This veneer offers a combination of aesthetics appeal and environmental responsibility. It replicates the look and tactile nature of premium wood yet benefits from enhanced stability and sustainability features. The wood tones and texture bring a calming ambience and timeless elegance to the space. Each door and drawer front incorporates an integrated handle which gives the wardrobe units a sleek, uncluttered appearance. Integrated handles are easy to wipe clean and eliminate the risk of catching clothing or bumping into a protruding feature. A stunning feature of these fitted wardrobes is the integrated plinth and shelving lighting which emanates a soft glow as you enter the room. We installed PIR (passive infrared) sensors in the skirting boards to automatically and conveniently activate the lights whenever someone is present. This is also a useful energy addition, as the lights are only on when needed. Skirting board mounting is a discreet and effective way to place PIR sensors, offering a lower profile compared to wall-mounted sensor. The built-in dressing room also includes a bespoke cushioned storage seat, numerous wide, soft-close drawers and illuminated display shelves for storage baskets and boxes. The result is a luxuriously, streamlined and ordered setting for the Wimbledon homeowners to store their clothing and accessories, with everything fitting perfectly.

Custom plantation shutters made in the USA for this modern Florida home by Plantation Shutters Florida Inc. Our Fort Pierce workshop manufactures made-to-measure hardwood and Ultra-Poly® shutters designed to complement modern architecture while providing privacy, light control, and a clean finished appearance. Each shutter is custom measured and built for the individual window or door opening, with options for louver size, color, finish, and operating system. Our clients approached us to renovate their home, as it was lacking function for their family’s changing needs. They were facing issues with insufficient storage, and underutilised areas. The entry was cramped, which was especially noticeable when several people were coming in, or when carrying in groceries. The Shared Bathroom was too small, and lacked enough room for their teenage children to store their individual belongings. Additionally, since both clients work from home, a dedicated office space was essential. On the Main Floor, we relocated the closet at the entry, making the entrance more spacious, and the Powder Room was given an update and new fixtures. The wall between the Kitchen and Dining Room was removed, which opened up the Main Floor. Half of the space this created was used to create a much larger Kitchen with ample gathering space for our client’s large family. The new custom Kitchen boasts plenty of dark cabinetry with wood accents, and is complimented by a beautiful quartz countertop and matching black fixtures. The other half of the newly created space was transformed into a quiet, functional home office. In the new office, a wall of built-in cabinetry offers useful storage for both work and hobby items, creating the perfect space for both work and crafting. On the Second Floor, we expanded the Shared Bathroom by using space from the Guest Bedroom closet and the Second Floor Office. We replaced the bathtub shower combo with a spacious grand shower and added a large vanity and makeup area, giving each teenager their own dedicated personal storage space. In the Master Ensuite, we altered the entryway location, allowing for a redesigned layout that includes a large vanity and double sink, enhancing both functionality and storage. Our clients expressed their happiness with the renovation process with Sosna, specifically how clean the construction area was kept, and how respectful the Sosna team was of their home and neighbours. They were pleased that all deadlines were met, and the project was completed on time, and looked even better than they had dreamed. In Raleigh, North Carolina, we installed a 36-foot white oak slide in a custom home. The client loved it so much they ordered a second one—literally 15 minutes after we finished the installation. When Clyde returned to the office, there was already a check in the mailbox for slide number two. This 14,000-square-foot home now features 72 linear feet of curved white oak slide: one connecting the second floor to the main level, another linking the main floor to the finished basement. This project created a singular modern home for clients with two distinct professions; she is an artist; he is a musician. Their directive to Battle Associates was to “design the home of their dreams,” and “make it cool.” As the design evolved, three volumes emerged each with its own individual character. Shapes, materials, and colors reinforced the concept. The “Red Barn” houses a music studio, garage, guest, and children’s bedrooms. The “Industrial” volume is the Art Studio. The “Middle” volume is where the clients live. Each structure has its own set of exterior details, materials, and colors. The three buildings are oriented to maximize views around a man-made pond and a conserved hefty locus tree. Clean, contemporary lines set the tone for the details throughout the project, creating an appropriate environment for displaying artwork. Maple, bamboo, and painted finishes were the predominant palette, complemented with steel and glass for the stairs. Kitchen details favored cut-away pulls instead of hardware. The shell of the entire home was detailed and constructed with a high degree of energy efficiency in mind. Ultra-insulation was the standard with foam panels, triple glazing, and near passive house standards for construction.
