Contemporary home built on an infill lot in downtown Harrisonburg. The goal of saving as many trees as possible led to the creation of a bridge to the front door. This not only allowed for saving trees, but also created a reduction is site development costs.

The main door leads to the entry hall. To the right is the living room and stairway. Directly ahead of the entry is the library. We reupholstered a vintage settee the clients had, replacing the torn rattan, and using a performance teal velvet for the cushion.

This basement remodel was a true blank canvas. Working closely with our designer Margaret, the homeowners envisioned a timeless space they could grow into—one that felt modern, moody, and inviting while still being functional for everyday life. From the sleek, black wet bar with matte finishes and gold hardware to the built-in Murphy bed, each feature blends style and durability. Every detail was designed with intention. Structural support beams became a standout design feature, cleverly integrated into the wet bar island. The result? A polished, purposeful space perfect for hosting or unwinding.

Powder room tucked into a small closet space. We hand made the unique Oregon Maple Cabinet Counter Top and cantilevered shelves. All finished with conversion varnish. Some clever tile, decorator paint and we have a lovely new addition to this home.

Naaya geometry series is inspired by geometric shapes and forms. Most of the forms derived starts with a simple sketch of geometric shapes, placing them at various heights and connecting the edges. Once an interesting shape is in sight, same is taken into clay and then the formal process of clay starts.

Made with the chef in mind, this pantry provides an innovative way to store a multitude of knives. It also includes an adjustable shelf with two knife blocks and either two or four stainless steel canisters.

For Amanda, once the kitchen process started, her home posed a bit of a design obstacle course.
She explains: “A big obstacle we faced was when we started moving a wall. It turned out that everything needed to be rewired and new plumbing had to be installed.”
After that issue was addressed, she also had the range vent arrive damaged upon delivery and also encountered several weather-related delays, including leaks in her roof.
“I also had some issues with getting new inspiration on Pinterest every few days, and then trying to change the design while [the contractor] was in the middle of the remodel. He did not love that,” she adds.
And, of course, she wanted to bring in more light by expanding the window and to close the odd window to the laundry room. This was achieved by expanding the window as she wanted and placing open shelving on either side of the window, which cleverly insured that upper cabinets wouldn’t block out any light.
Amanda concludes with some useful advice for other IKEA remodelers who are just starting out with their IKEA kitchen project.
“If you feel [overwhelmed] when you see the price tag of cabinets at other stores, go to IKEA. My cabinets ended up costing me about 30% of what I would’ve spent at another store,” she says.
She concludes: “My other piece of advice for anybody who wants to do a kitchen remodel is to pick your design and stick with it.”
And if any obstacles present themselves – even things outside your control like weather or damaged items – definitely look on the bright side, you’ll have a new IKEA kitchen in no time!
