This gorgeous Bocage home was originally too compartmentalized for entertaining guests. The kitchen itself and the opening between the kitchen and family area were both small, making the space feel closed in and cut off from the rest of the house. Our goal was to open the space as much as possible and give the clients everything they needed to entertain. Early in the design process, we decided it was necessary to add square footage to give these clients their dream kitchen. Adding this space allowed for a large kitchen island, tons of cabinet storage, a walk-in pantry, half bath and small office, all accessible from the focal kitchen. Flanking the kitchen window are sets of floating shelves from The Olde Mill. The hollow floating shelf design allowed for color-changing LED lights to be set into the shelves, allowing for a change of mood at the press of a button. We were able to widen the opening between the kitchen and family room to allow the spaces to flow together. The doorway was framed with reclaimed wood posts and headers, also from The Olde Mill. After the expansion, a structural beam was added to support the second floor, and the clients decided to cover it with a beautiful reclaimed wood beam as well. To wrap the laminated structural beam, this beam was made 22″ wide. All of these elements gave the clients a large, show-stopping kitchen with tons of storage and plenty of room to entertain family and friends.

Embracing the challenge of grounding this open, light-filled space, our Boulder studio focused on comfort, ease, and high design. The built-in lounge is flanked by storage cabinets for puzzles and games for this client who loves having people over. The high-back Living Divani sofa is paired with U-Turn Benson chairs and a "Rabari" rug from Nanimarquina for casual gatherings. The throw pillows are a perfect mix of Norwegian tapestry fabric and contemporary patterns. In the child's bedroom, we added an organically shaped Vitra Living Tower, which also provides a cozy reading niche. Bold Marimekko fabric colorfully complements more traditional detailing and creates a contrast between old and new. We loved collaborating with our client on an eclectic bedroom, where everything is collected and combined in a way that allows distinctive pieces to work together. A custom walnut bed supports the owner's tatami mattress. Vintage rugs ground the space and pair well with a vintage Scandinavian chair and dresser.
Combining unexpected objects is one of our favorite ways to add liveliness and personality to a space. In the little guest bedroom, our client (a creative and passionate collector) was the inspiration behind an energetic and eclectic mix. Similarly, turning one of our client's favorite old sweaters into pillow covers and popping a Native American rug on the wall helped pull the space together. Slightly eclectic and invitingly cozy, the twin guestroom beckons for settling in to read, nap or daydream. A vintage poster from Omnibus Gallery in Aspen and an antique nightstand add period whimsy.

This client was working with a contractor that Ancient Elements Stoneworks has worked with for years. With the help of the contractor and Ancient Elements’ employees the clients were able to make their dream kitchen a reality. This kitchen is unique by having two different materials, one on the perimeter and another on the island. On the perimeter they have a granite that is called White Jaguar and on the island the granite is Terra Nova. These two materials play off each other’s colors and really bring this kitchen to life. Another unique part of this kitchen is the raised bar in the middle island. Ancient Elements Stoneworks was able to help the client and the contractor make this a reality by designing different supports and making sure the clients dreams came true. Please check out the image of this unique and beautiful kitchen above.

This deck was falling apart, and the wood was rotting and becoming dangerous; it was important to fix this issue. Our client’s dream was to easily serve meals from the kitchen in an enjoyable outdoor eating space. It was a MUST to have enough deck support for the hot tub so that our clients could happily use it daily. They wanted to add a window that opens to the covered deck and a beautiful serving counter, it made it much easier for our client to serve her guests while enjoying the beautiful weather and having a space to entertain.

Just last year, in order to give visitors the best shopping and entertainment experience, the official Westfield Valencia Town Center in California announced a $100-million investment to add features, including a new Costco, luxury cinema and fitness center, dramatically transforming the site of one of the mall’s original anchor stores, and planed to be completed by mid- to late-2020. We are honored to have the opportunity to be a custom furniture supplier in the food court area of this project.
We received enquiries from the client in the US in early April 2019. After learning and discussing the details of the project, our team took the project seriously and offered a quote to our client. Since this is the first cooperation with the client, we are very grateful for their support and trust! We are happy to know that the owner is satisfied with the five furniture models. Although we spend a lot of time confirming all the shop drawings and materials, we still maintain a good relationship and hope to do our utmost to deliver the custom made furniture to meet the expectations of our client.
After countless details and materials confirmed, we finally made all the furniture on time and shipped them to the United States in September. When we receive many beautiful photos from our customers, everything is worth it. Nothing is more exciting than satisfying customers!

Our clients wanted a bigger kitchen to entertain family and friends. They also wanted to spend time outdoors, therefore our designer incorporated a screen porch to the design adjacent to the kitchen area. Natural light was another important request on their wish list, so our designer added large windows with a bench for sitting area which created a relaxing atmosphere in the room. Our client’s last request was to have a small workshop to work on his custom furniture, we extended the basement along with the first floor which provided enough room to work on. Our clients were extremely satisfied with the project outcome. They couldn’t thank us enough about the great experience they had working with us.

The King’s Hill Residence is also known as the WR Mackenzie Residence and is on the National Register of Historic Places and located in the historic King’s Hill neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. The home is a classic architectural example of the Federal Style, designed by the prominent Portland architectural firm of the day, Whidden and Lewis. Prior to being placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1978, the house had undergone a significant two-story addition on it’s SW side and a few unfortunate interior renovations. The house felt dark, dreary and mostly disregarded on the interior.
My client, relocating from Northern California, fell in love with Portland and had been looking for a home that was within walking distance of all of Portland’s finest amenities - Downtown, Northwest 23rd, the Pearl District and Washington Park. They purchased the home with the vision of lovingly restoring it while also respectfully renovating the interior to support the needs of a modern family.
The house is approximately 6000 square feet with three stories of living space and a previously unfinished basement. The main level has a traditional formal Entry Foyer with flanking Dining Room and Living Room at the front of the house with a Library, Family Room, Kitchen and original Butler’s Pantry located on the west side of the main level. The second level includes a Master Suite, Sun Room, Dressing Room and two guest rooms with shared guest bath. The third level, originally the servant’s quarters, were mostly unfinished and in disrepair, as was the basement.
With the client’s program and functional needs defined, Katy began the design process by studying a wide range of floor plan options for all three levels while also focussing on retaining, enhancing and also restoring the historic character and details of the home. Once the floor plans had been refined Katy, working closely with her client, designed, selected and specified the palette of interior materials, cabinetry, architectural details, lighting, hardware and windowcoverings throughout the home. All of the systems incuding HVAC, plumbing, electrical and structural were also replaced throughout the home. The house is currently under construction and set for completion Spring 2019.
Katy Krider Interior Design collaborated with a talented and professional team of consultants including Olson and Jones Construction, Jeffrey Miller Architecture, Full Circa Restoration, Earl Levin Lighting Constultant, Westside Electric, Hood-McNees Mechanical, Heritage Woodcraft, Young and Son Woodworks, Joshua Durrand tilesetter, De LaTierra stone fabrication, Sundeleaf Painting, Kip’s Hardwood Flooring and The Shade Store.
