More than merely aesthetically pleasing, this wine room was a vital feature for our clientele. As avid entertainers, the homeowners frequently utilized their favorite vintages, for both after-dinner cocktails and while cooking alike. With room to store 1,230 bottles, this climate-controlled space offered everything they needed within reach while simultaneously protecting the integrity of the wine by keeping temperatures consistent and humidity under control.

Some projects begin with a vision. This one started with a feeling: The St. Paul homeowner wanted her bedroom to be rejuvenating. Using her favorite color palette was important. Keeping the room warm and inviting was imperative. Once LiLu found the primary velvet with embroidery sofa fabric, we were on our way to a serene design solution.

Our remodel of this family home took advantage of a breathtaking view of Lake Minnetonka. We installed a four-chair lounge on what was previously a formal porch, satisfying the couple’s desire for a warm, cozy ambience. An uncommon shade of pale, soothing blue as the base color creates a cohesive, intimate feeling throughout the house. Custom pieces, including a server and bridge, and mahjong tables, communicate to visitors the homeowners’ unique sensibilities cultivated over a lifetime. The dining room features a richly colored area rug featuring fruits and leaves – an old family treasure.

As a world traveler, Lesley has accumulated an extensive collection of personal treasures and artwork. As a lawyer, she has amassed a large library of books. Combine that with a 13-year-old daughter who is a competitive equestrian and you have a diverse assortment of personal and professional passions coming together under one Minneapolis roof. And yet after LiLu carefully listened, we expertly designed a different twist on what others might call Americana. Lesley simply calls it home, one that perfectly reflects everything she loves in life.

Their search took more than 1½ years, but once Susie and Matt saw the expansive view of the Stone Arch Bridge reaching across the Mississippi River, they knew they had found their new home. Life had changed dramatically for these homeowners since becoming empty nesters and grandparents. And they felt a vibrant city life was calling them downtown. These avid travelers appreciated the convenience of condo living. At the same time their love of entertaining required a space where they could comfortably host large gatherings of family and friends. This condo offered a blank canvas. LiLu Interiors was called in to design a custom space that fit their lifestyle. Every square inch of the condo was remodeled to be modern, grand-kid friendly and take advantage of the stunning view of the Mississippi.

When LiLu was called on by a long-time client to help remodel her kitchen in a charming 1930s St. Paul home, the Design Team knew the space needed to be expanded, lightened, and brightened. First they removed the wall separating the kitchen and dining room. A breakfast bar was added and the window seat was refreshed to offer more inviting places for people to mingle. Crown molding and recessed lighting were installed to create visual height. All the cabinets were painted a light gray, with bold pops of blue, orange, and even some indigo throughout. And yet what makes this kitchen a perfect fit for our home cook client are the storage spaces unique positioned throughout. From shelving above that houses our client’s many cookbooks, to the custom cabinets that hideaway appliances and cookware alike, every detail was considered when making this kitchen both useful and unique.

She cheers for bright colors. He bleeds nothing but MSU Green. So how does she seamlessly blend her feminine aesthetics with his long-established collection of all things Spartan? And how is this captured in a shared office space, all while embracing their home’s traditional architecture? These design questions were quickly answered after LiLu developed a materials palette that combines energy with serenity. Staining custom-designed, traditionally detailed built-in cabinetry a cool gray contrasts the warm oak floor. Painting the cabinet insets with vertical colored stripes offsets the gray stain, grounds the space, and creates a visual rhythm. The colors of the stripes reflect her favorite hues and his Spartan green. And we integrated small touches of his favorite sports team such as a Letterman ’S’, collectables and Spartan green in subtle ways. From there our design team created a highly functional floor plan, complete with individual storage and separate work stations. We used wall space strategically to accommodate file and book storage, careful not to overwhelm the cozy room. The result is a his and hers home office that has become quite the fan favorite.

Less is more in this home snuggled on the bluffs overlooking St. Croix River Valley. LiLu introduced an intentionally limited, neutral palette. While at the same time, strategic pops of our client’s favorite colors and patterns create a timeless aesthetic to the space. The quiet, simplicity of the furnishings and fabrics effortlessly invite the river view inside and emphasize the clean-lined architecture built by SALA Architects. With a nod to a cozy cottage, this home offers the ideal spot to enjoy the beautiful outdoors from the comfortable indoors.

The Chairish Villa at The Colony is a celebration of authentic Palm Beach style, reimagined for today’s tastemaking and affluent guests. As America’s premier emporium for vintage and antique furnishings, Chairish is known for serving up historical design expertise with heaping sides of high/low chic and playful irreverence. Likewise, the Colony is celebrated the world over as a vintage mecca with a 100-year history of tastemaking residents.
This spirit of play guided our design approach, and the Chairish Villa fearlessly mixes historically significant, Palm Beach specific design themes with modern additions like contemporary art, mid-century furnishings and sophisticated layering to delight The Colony’s fashionable clientele. Chinoiserie motifs, animalia details, wicker, rattan, and breezy hues abound.
Palm Beach is a famed treasure trove of vintage and antique furnishings, offered by an extensive community of expert local purveyors. Almost all the furnishings selected by Chairish for the project were locally sourced from Chairish dealers within 5 miles from the hotel, making The Chairish Villa at The Colony both a fashionable and sustainable destination.
We used matching archival wallpaper and fabric pairings. This approach was specifically inspired by the Yellow Roses Room at the Flagler Mansion, and we sourced our textile, wallpaper, and trim pairings exclusively from our partner Schumacher Hospitality. Schumacher’s Del Tesoro pattern, based on a 19th-century French document, served as the project’s overall jumping off point. We also used Hydrangea Drape, which was inspired by a design of Hobe Erwin.
The villa features over 40 pieces of art: largely comprised of contemporary works from 20 artists from around the world, half of which were tapped to create original works specific to the space. This impressive showing is complemented by a small selection of vintage artwork as well. Noteworthy Artists include: Liz Marsh, Hope Olson, Brock DeBoer, Lia Burke Libaire, Venetia Syms, Ron Giusti, and Virginia Chamlee, among others.
Special thanks to our local partners for their incredible work on this project, particularly:
