From the moment this Northeast Minneapolis homeowner called on LiLu to transform her master suite, the design team knew a sense of artistry needed to be applied throughout the entire space. The age of the pieces in the client’s diverse collection of keepsakes lent intrigue and provided a creative challenge LiLu loves to embrace. Carefully balancing finishes, patterns, textures, and colors in the new master suite, LiLu collaborated to create interesting focal points where the eye could rest. The result is an inspired respite that strikes a visionary balance between modern and vintage.

The picture our clients had in mind was a boutique hotel lobby with a modern feel and their favorite art on the walls. We designed a space perfect for adult and tween use, like entertaining and playing billiards with friends. We used alder wood panels with nickel reveals to unify the visual palette of the basement and rooms on the upper floors. Beautiful linoleum flooring in black and white adds a hint of drama. Glossy, white acrylic panels behind the walkup bar bring energy and excitement to the space. We also remodeled their Jack-and-Jill bathroom into two separate rooms – a luxury powder room and a more casual bathroom, to accommodate their evolving family needs.

A majestic ancient limestone archway on its own in your kitchen entryway or as a series of colonnaded courtyard arches is always prerequisite for any special home that wants to differ from the rest by being characterized as having an enduring historic value.
We've provided many enduring stone portals and archways for decades to a network of small and discerning group of interior design clientele that have created the most amazing homes out of our unique antique stone elements.

LiLu’s most recent work with these long-time clients was to freshen up significant spaces in their Minneapolis home. Staying true to our original concept of creating a traditional, welcoming, and comfortable retreat, these homeowners have expanded on their love for living and entertaining in a sophisticated, yet casual style.
The kids’ den doubles as a sitting area for quiet activities like reading and needlepoint away from the more active great room. It also serves as a nursery for visiting grandchildren. Peter Pan inspired the design of the den, complete with some wonderful needlepoint accessories created by the homeowner.

The bones of this 1920s Minneapolis residence might be considered traditional, but the spirited design hidden inside is quite the contrary. LiLu Interiors punctuated this family’s lighthearted personality with fun furnishings and whimsical finishes all the way into the home office. While serious work is being accomplished from behind the desk, this hideaway still provides the comfort of a plush area rug, the vibrance of a visually bright color scheme, and the energy of a distinctive wall covering. The custom built-ins ensure that paperwork doesn’t spill over and interrupt the playfulness of this one-of-kind design.

For two years, these homeowners lived in Paris—surrounded by sidewalk cafes, fashion boutiques, and world-class cuisine. They fell in love with city living, which is why upon their move back to the Twin Cities they purchased a downtown condo. LiLu Interiors enhanced the 4,000 square feet of contemporary architecture with an impressive cook’s kitchen, complete with commercial-grade appliances and exquisite finishes. Entertaining large crowds is made even easier with a sensible space design that offers plenty of room to prepare a meal and share a conversation.

A new home can be beautiful, yet lack soul. For a family with exquisite taste, and a love of the artisan and bespoke, LiLu created a layered palette of furnishings that express each family member’s personality and values. One child, who loves Jackson Pollock, received a window seat from which to enjoy the ceiling’s lively splatter wallpaper. The other child, a young gentleman, has a navy tweed upholstered headboard and plaid club chair with leather ottoman. Elsewhere, sustainably sourced items have provenance and meaning, including a LiLu-designed powder-room vanity with marble top, a Dunes and Duchess table, Italian drapery with beautiful trimmings, Galbraith & Panel wallcoverings, and a bubble table. After working with LiLu, the family’s house has become their home.

Our remodel of this family home took advantage of a breathtaking view of Lake Minnetonka. We installed a four-chair lounge on what was previously a formal porch, satisfying the couple’s desire for a warm, cozy ambience. An uncommon shade of pale, soothing blue as the base color creates a cohesive, intimate feeling throughout the house. Custom pieces, including a server and bridge, and mahjong tables, communicate to visitors the homeowners’ unique sensibilities cultivated over a lifetime. The dining room features a richly colored area rug featuring fruits and leaves – an old family treasure.

Before purchasing their early 20th-century Prairie-style home, perfect in so many ways for their growing family, the parents asked LiLu whether its imperfections could be remedied. Specifically, they were sad to leave a kid-focused happy home full of color, pattern, texture, and durability thanks to LiLu. Could the new house, with lots of woodwork, be made brighter and lighter? Of course. In the living areas, LiLu selected a high-gloss turquoise paint that reflects light for selected cabinets and the fireplace surround; the color complements original handmade blue-green tile in the home. Graphic floral and abstract prints, and furnishings and accessories in lively shades of pink, were layered throughout to create a bright, playful aesthetic. Elsewhere, staircase spindles were painted turquoise to bring out their arts-and-craft design and heighten the abstract wallpaper and striped runner. Wallpaper featuring 60s-era superheroes, metallic butterflies, cartoon bears, and flamingos enliven other rooms of the house. In the kitchen, an orange island adds zest to cream-colored cabinets and brick backsplash. The family’s new home is now their happy home.
